Nassau

Coming from a different angle, I would suggest that you avoid eating and especially drinking, at the Atlantis resort. Because they bring you premium brands on everything without telling you, or asking. DH says they have the highest prices he's ever seen. Tourist trap.

I went a few years ago. Went to Atlantis - you can walk through the aquarium part for free (at least then). The Pirates of Nassau is a short interactive museum type thing - I don't remember the price but I remember it being too expensive and I LOVE pirates - I wouldn't pay more than $10 each to do. There is a small zoo with a cute flamingo show. The straw market is a joke - really. The vendors were as pushy as Jamaica!

I felt safe there. We actually walked back to the ship from the zoo (a mile or two walk).

Everything is VERY expensive.

Would I go back? Only if it was part of a cruise that I wanted to go on. I wouldn't otherwise. There are many other areas in the Bahamas and Carribbean that are more beautiful and cheaper. :)

We enjoyed a snorkelling trip, International Diamonds store and The Atlantis. We had a great time both from getting off the Disney cruise and once when we stayed at The Atlantis.

So glad I found this thread. I'm heading to Nassau for a day as part of my cruise, and I was looking for ideas on what to do.
Which of the 2 dolphin interactions do you recommend? And has anyone done the sea lion interaction?

Ok, I must be in the minority here because I love the bahamas. I've been several times and stayed at Atlantis and the Riu Palace.

Great reef shark diving if you do that. They also offer snuba/snorkeling. I want to say it's blue island divers is the outfit. One of the best I've ever used.

The fish fry is great. Twin Brothers has some amazingly fresh fish. It was cheaper than the Atlantis resorts but not what most would consider cheap. Walked from downtown market area and didn't feel unsafe at all.

It's an island so everything is imported and it's main source of income is tourism. Even the places the locals go aren't "cheap"

I totally agree with you. We like the Bahamas. We were just there over New Years at Breezes. We were ther with three teens (16, 18, 20). The beach by the Wyndham is beautiful. There is construction but you don't really hear it. There is a small market across the street that has decent prices and much less hassle than the straw market downtown.
We took the jitney downtown and walked to the Queens staircase and fort Fincastle. Small but nice. We never felt unsafe. My husband went walking every days for miles and never had a problem. We really enjoy the island. Just remember to be smart and don't show wads of cash or do anything stupid just like most cities.

Trubahamianfoodtours.com consistently gets five stars on trip advisor. We loved it. It is a discussion of Bahamian culture, history, and food with a walking tour of the city. We really enjoyed ourselves; it felt like we were hanging out with friends.

We also enjoyed the charming little Ardastra Zoo. You can catch a taxi downtown, and arrange to have them pick you up in a couple of hours.
