RCCL ships often stop at Nassau. For those of you with kids, what do you do in Nassau? If there was more time, we'd check out the Atlantis, but it's too expensive for only a couple hours. Any suggestions? I haven't heard great comments about Nassau in general.

We did the Blue Lagoon excursion the first time we were there and it was nice, but overpriced for what you get. Then, last year we walked to Junkanoo beach (free) and had a blast. It was clean and everyone there was super nice, we never felt unsafe or threatened at all. It was about a 15 minute walk from the ship.

I had a fantastic day there a couple of years ago with DS and DCousin; they were both 14 at the time. We walked off the ship and caught a cab at the pier to the Ardastra Zoo. http://www.ardastra.com/ We spent several really enjoyable hours there and then caught a cab back downtown and toured the Pirates of Nassau Museum http://www.pirates-of-nassau.com/home.htm pirate:. Once we finished there we walked back to the pier (it was maybe 5 blocks) with a stop enroute at the straw market. Overall it was a very reasonably priced day as well; about $60.00 in admissions for the 3 of us plus cab fare and refreshments. The boys loved both attractions and I loved them loving it! I felt perfectly safe with them on my own (DH had taken a golf excursion) - the zoo and museum are major tourist attractions and were bustling with other families from our same cruise ship.

Atlantis...

Go to cruisecritic and look at the Nassau boards. On there, look for the Comfort Suites threads. You can rent a room at Comfort Suites, checkin and checkout at the same time (if you wish...or if you want a room to change in during the day, you can skip the second part there). The CS has a deal with Atlantis that gives you the full day pass wristband for, usually, much cheaper than going through Atlantis itself or through the cruiseline. I believe they've tossed in a couple extra fees like housekeeping and electricity, but it can still come in drastically under getting the same pass through Atlantis or the ship.

It means you do have to get over there by taxi, and you do have to watch that time CAREFULLY so you're not late. But if Atlantis is what you really wanted to do, it might be a way to do it.

For us...we've done nothing much so far. Tried to walk to the Queen's Staircase, got mixed up because of low signage and no sidewalks. Went on back to the ship. Second time we were on Disney and had the Greycliff Chocolate Factory Tour; after doing that we would rather take a cab over there and just buy some chocolate. It's really good, especially when it's made for you and pretty. :) Since then we just stay on the ship.

We are going there this coming weekend for a week. One of the things we're doing is the dolphin excursion at Blue Lagoon Island. They tend to have deals so keep an eye out if it's something you're interested in. We got a buy two get one free deal for the dolphin encounter. There's six of us so it came out to $82(vs.$115 +tax regular price) per person which is SIGNIFICANTLY less than what you'd pay at Atlantis AND it includes use of the beach all day.
