Nassau shopping

First and foremost Welcome to the Disboards... I see this is your first post :)

It is very easy to get to the shopping from the ship. The shops on the Main road (Bay Street) are all tourist friendly and not pushy.

Here is a link to the shopping district (it is from the Pirates of Nassau web page but has the best map of nassau that I have seen).

When you get off the ship you would head straight to Bay Street (follow the crowd ;) ). Once on Bay Street the shops are to the right. I am not a fan of the StrawMarket but many others are so make sure that you get there to check it out too :) My only advice to you is this, if you have never been to Nassau...Walk like you know exactlly where you are going (even if you don't) and if any locals come up to you to try and sell you something just polietly say no and keep walking (they will not harass you if you are not intimidated by them). We have been to Nassau many times and I personally enjoy our visits there. Just understand that tourism is the market and that they are not trying to be rude it is there culture. They will ask you a million times if they can Braid your hair and things like that. If you are prepared you will be fine :) Have a great time.

We are going on the January 27, 2005 Wonder Cruise as well and my family doesn't know about it yet either. It's a surprise for Christmas so I'm trying to learn as much as possible since they'll only have a month to prepare for it! I am really hoping for some nice balmy weather and maybe coming across some good shopping deals in Nassau. However-it sounds so touristy that I'm expecting most things to be overpriced. If that's the case, we'll just head to the beach, weather permitting of course.

We did blue lagoon last year. I read on another thread that it was pretty tore up from the hurricane. I am not sure what to do. It is difficult because I cannot ask my DH what he wants because he does not know he is going. I do not plan on telling him until we get to the ship or he figures it out on the way from the airport. Right now he thinks he is joining me on a business trip. I figure when we get to Orlando he will think we are going to Disney (that is all I have been talking about because I love it at Christmas). I have already rented the limo and gave them instructions not to tell. I hope he will be surprised. More important I hope he has a great time.

We're also going on our first cruise on Jan 27th (myself, DH, DS6 & DS10)! :Pinkbounc I have learned a lot from these boards already! Keep reading! :wave2:

(Some regular posters have already heard this story. I enjoy telling it so pardon me if it is a repeat for you.)

My (surrogate) granddaughter and I went shopping at the straw market for three beach towels for her siblings. I told the vendor I was willing to pay $25.00 for three towels. After much haggling I was quoted a price of $27.00.

I replied by pointing to Devina and saying that $25.00 was the final offer because that was all the money she had.

Devina proudly announced, “No, Mr. Bill. Mommy gave me $200.00 to spend!”

I paid the $27.00 and left.
