Was wondering, since this is my first cruise, once we are in Nassau, do you have to have a shore excusion that is paid up front to get a ride on a water taxi to Atlantis? I am really confused about how you go about getting information. I want to do things at my own pace, and not a scheduled time. All I want to do is to get a ride over to see Atlantis, and walk it myself, any suggestions? Any help is appreciated! Send all information about Atlantis, cant wait to see it.

Can anyone tell me how you get the countdown calendar attached to these things.... cant figure it out.

No excursion needed we used the water taxi over to Atlantis when we wanted to go i think it was 4 bucks per person....
and got one for the way back.... that is what we did was Walk the Grounds At Atlantis ..went to casino and some how we did wander into the part that u r suppose to have paid admission for
we just checked everything out and left when we where done...

You do not have to have a pre-planned excursion to use the water taxis/land taxis and visit Paradise Island for shopping or to visit Atlantis. Either taxi will get you there and if I remember correctly from last year, it was about $4 per person by water (each way_ and if by land taxi, you also had to pay the $1 bridge toll.

Remember that if you are visiting Atlantis without a paid excursion, you will be able to see only the hotel itself and not really any of the inside grounds like the pools, beach, etc. You will have access to restaurants, shopping and gambling -- you can also walk around the outside and see the beautiful marina with yachts that are unbelieveable! The security at Atlantis was pretty tight last year. It is a beautiful resort and we love to go there and walk around and shop.

I've been to Atlantis three times so if you have any other questions, let me know.

Good luck and enjoy!

The water taxi is $3 per person, $6 round trip. Once you pass through the customs house, just keep walking and turn right. There will be a number of small boats there with a ticket-selling booth. You may have to wait until the taxi fills with other customers, but waiting on a boat in the Bahamas is not a real pain. :sunny:

There will be a man on board who will point out sights of the harbor. At the end of his spiel, he'll announce he is not employed by the boat line and works on tips. If you tip him or not, it's up to you. No problem.

We've used the taxi both times I've been on the cruise and they've worked great. If time is a concern, go for a cab. I think they're around $5 a person (not sure, as we have never used this option).

was wondering how long it takes to get to the atlantis by either water or land taxi...We have actually booked 2 rooms at the atlantis for the day and want to get the most out of it. Also, I'd like to visit the straw markets. If we take the water taxi, do we bypass the markets? Oh, and another question that just popped into my already over crowed mind, we have the late dinner on the Wonder, so I assuming that we will not have time to go back to the hotel if we decide to have dinner on the ship. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....We sail 4/04 and can't wait:bounce:

Thanks!!

I was told that if you go by taxi instead of water taxi, you don't have to walk that long to the hotel. I have small kids and would like to know if I should take a taxi instead.

Anyone please?

THe taxi ride is only 3 miles. It only takes about 10 minutes. The ride can be a little scary because the drivers seem to be going really fast. They also drive on the wrong side of the road in the bahamas which makes it even scarier. THey can drop you right at the front door to Atlantis, thereby avoiding the quarter mile walk form the water taxi dock.

DO NOT GO TO THE STRAW MARKET!!!

I really mean this. We went to this horrible place known as the Straw Market on our RCCL cruise's stop in Nassau. Everyone said "You gotta go see this place." Well, I only made it 20 or 30 feet under this tent like structure and I went into a full blown panic attack!!! The place smells like a filthy outhouse. And the vendors attack you and place hats and bracelets on you trying to get you to buy their wares. It was awful!!! I told my DH to GET ME OUTTA HERE NOW!!! I was so freaked out! The folks right outside the Straw Market were offering us cocaine of reefer. I just wanted to get back on the ship. This trip we will not even get off the ship @ Nassau. People have told us the town itself is nice but I'm not interested!!
