Hi everyone!
Just wondering if anyone has participated in the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter as an excursion in Nassau. If so, please tell me what it was like and if you felt it was worth the money. We are huge dolphin lovers. :flower: Also, did you feel it cut to much into your day? We really want to enjoy the beach, etc. We are planning on taking the 4 day cruise.
Any info. would be greatly appreciated! :lovestruc

I am wanting to hear about this too. We are dolphin lovers too. I do hear you take the ferry back from this at 2 p.m. Don't know how long the ride is though.

I haven't done the Dolphin Excursion, but I have been to Blue Lagoon Island. When my husband and I went on our honeymoon cruise in 2002 (not Disney, the Disney cruise was cancelled that week because of the Norwalk virus, so we had to take Carnival) we went to Blue Lagoon Island (also known as Salt Cay) and did the swimming with stingrays excursion, which is very, very fun. I highly recommend it. I got to see a video of some people from our cruise swimming with the dolphins and it looked really fun. You get to go in the water and interact with the dolphins from what I saw. It's a lot more expensive than the stingrays, however. But the real fun of the island is the island itself. It is so incredibly beautiful you won't believe your eyes! You cannot go to Nassau without visiting Blue Lagoon Island!!! The whole time we just kept saying to ourselves that it was too beautiful to be real. You could just spend a whole day there lying on a hammock and drinking Bahama Mamas. Even if you don't swim with the dolphins I highly recommend taking a trip to the island just to play and lie in the sand. It's definitely an experience that's not to be missed!

We did the Dolphin Encounter and it was very, very cool! You take the ferry over, spend a little time learning about the dolphins, how to interact with them, where NOT to touch them, etc. This is done as a large group. Then they split you into smaller groups and you go sit on the edge of a sort of pool. The dolphin swims in and out of this pool, which is open underneath to allow him/her to come and go. The trainer then gets about 8 people into the water. You stand on a wire ledge about waist high in the water and the dolphin comes and plays with each of you. You get to pet him, feed him, dance with him and you get a big hug from him. Very, very cool to hug a dolphin. We did this in 2002. Our dolphin was Sean and he was, according to the trainer, very smart. He was about 7 and already could do over 70 different things.

We had plenty of time afterwards to have lunch and enjoy the beach. You do not have to take the 2:00 pm ferry. You can stay until the last ferry if you choose.

This will be our first cruise and first time in Nassau. We are going to do the Dolphin encounter, but my husband also wants to snorkel. Can you snorkel by the beach nearby the Dolphin encounter and do you think there is enough time to do both? I would also like to go shopping in Nassau before heading back to the ship. Hopefully we can fit all this in one day. Thanks for your help.
