We are not brand new to Nassau (this will make our fourth stop) but we are not super adventurous by nature, so the 2 times we did get off in Nassau, we walked down to Senor Frogs and back basically. Stopped in some stores along the way.

This time I want to do something different. We are traveling with a total of 9, but this would only be my immediate party of 3. My husband and I are 43 and our daughter is 12. We could book through the cruise line, but for the sake of tossing around all ideas, we considered a walk to the Queen's Staircase and/or the Graycliff for the Art of Chocolate and Factory tour (or just that general area for the umbrellas, etc) Is walking doable (we are all healthy, no mobility issues) or would we need a taxi/transportation? Would these be relatively safe places to walk to from the cruise port?

We did the Land and Sea excursion in Nassau and it was really cool and not to expensive. I would recommend it. you get to go out and see some sight by sea, see some fish, get a short tour of the area, go to the fort and the stair case and end with a brief stop of Atlantis.

First time we went to Nassau, we walked to the Queens staircase. It's not too far of a walk, we walked up Elisabeth st. and up the stairs to the Fort and back.

Both are walkable and safe.

If you go to the Queen's Staircase there is likely to be a local tour guide there to walk you through the area and tell you the history. Take a little cash for a tip. You can go up to the fort and down the other side for a nice round trip.

Graycliff is lovely and interesting and the chocolate-making is a lot of fun.

My wife and I walked to the Queen's staircase on our last trip to Nassau. We are both over 50 and my wife has a bad knee. So it's very doable. There were merchants on the lane around the fort, who may or may not have different items that the merchants down at the port. This walk and browsing the merchants at the port entrance was the extent of our visit and we were back on the ship before lunch.

We have done the chocolate excursion before. It was nice to do just once, but they only had dark chocolate on the day we were there and my wife only likes milk chocolate. Have fun!

Graycliff chocolatier would be a much longer walk. (Doable, but I was just as happy to have taken the shuttle bus when we went there for the excursion.) Queen's staircase is very close; recommend walking up the street to get to the top of the staircase and then walking down the stairs and back to the ship instead of walking up the stairs. Agreed that there were people to talk about the history at the top of the stairs and it was worth a few bucks tip to listen to the background.

Just a suggestion if you've never been before but when we went to Nassau, we walked to the Pirate Museum. The kids (and adults!) loved it! My oldest was 11, but I think your 12 year old might also enjoy it. It was fairly close, an easy walk.
