When does the traffic start to get bad for NASCAR Daytona 500? I think the 500 is on Sunday Feb 14th this year but when do people start to arrive?

We are driving and will be coming through the Daytona rea to I-4, and WDW on Sunday am, so i am a little concerned now.

Get through there as early in the morning as possible. People will start flowing in early for tail gating and then it will get real busy by mid morning to early afternoon. Get through early so you won't have to mess with it.

We drove to the Bud Shootout at Daytona last Feb and traffic was not that bad. The heavy traffic will be in Daytona, the I-4 should be fine, especialy if I understand you right, you will be driving away from Daytona in the AM. Any traffic will be on the incoming lanes. The really bad traffic is after the race is over and everybody tries to leave at once, but that is not until late evening.

We are leaving from Brunswick, GA in tha am, down 95 and then onto I-4 at Daytona. so I am concerned about the I-95 to Daytona part more than the I-4 to WDW.

How early does the tailgating start before the race?

The earlier you come through, the better, but it's really not to bad heading south on 95 and then getting on I-4. You will have some congestion around the LPGA and ISB exits, but living here, most of the traffic is either already here (they've been here for speedweeks at that point) or they are coming off of I4 onto 95.

Thanks! Unfortunately there is no way around it but to drive through as early as possible.
I hoped most people would be there already,at least those who are staying and camping.

The race is starting at 1 o'clock this year, traffic will probably begin around 8-9am. I-4 is usually backed up to exit 100 or farther and I don't know how bad I-95 gets.

DH says (from experience) that 95 should be fine. It is I4 that gets the brunt of the congestion. And since you're going away from Daytona, you'll be fine on I4 too (at least until the race gets out in the evening.)
