Nascar cheating?

Nothing that hasn't been done already if anything.

They all skirt the limits and when they get caught they hand them down fines and driver points and so forth.

Uh oh, what did they do?? I missed something! Two of my 3 favorite drivers :(

That is what I asked but no one would give me a real answer. I went to nascar.com but I couldn't find anything there. Could someone please tell me what they did.

Edit: a link to an article would be great also

Not a Nascar fan, but I really dont understand the rules.

Why wouldnt it be who ever makes the fastest car by what ever means WINS?

It is a fairness issue. Not all the teams can afford to make the alterations to thier cars that would make them keep up with some of the other drivers. If Nascar just let anything go then the same few teams would be winning time and time again.

This would make the sport very boring IMO and there would be no more reason to watch. As much as I love to see my driver win if he was winning ever weekend then I would no longer have a reason to watch.

There is also a saftey issue involved. If Nascar let the drivers run at whatever speed theyy wanted there would be a lot more crashes and deaths.

Anewman, Nascar strongly subscribes to the fact that there should be a level playing field. As such, there are things that you cannot do to your vehicle to get it faster. Although, I'd say the field is more level for some than others (cough cough).

Michael Waltrip's manifold appeared to have a substance on the inside of it. His crew chief was asked to change the manifold, which he did with a new one in a box, and it also appeared to have a substance. Then they made Mikey use a backup engine, in which he qualified 24th. That manifold also appeared to have the substance.

Crew chief said it was oil, but oil shouldn't be in the manifold. It's suspected that it's sterno, which can boost the speed of the car short term-and that it usually burns off without any sign that it was there.

The other two are due to improper plugging of a hole in the rear wheel wells. There can be a hole during the race to bring air into the car to cool off the driver via a tube. For qualifying, it must be covered. Kasey's was covered with duct tape, which *somehow* got slashed and ripped apart. Matt's was covered with a piece of steel, but it was secured from inside the trunk, not on the outer part of the wheel well. Both drivers had the tape or steel in their trunk. Nascar feels that the hole being uncovered gives one an unfair advantage.

This year is shaping up for there to be a LOT of infractions...

hehehe...I think that poster was insinuating that NASCAR is already as boring as watching paint dry....how could there be any way to make it MORE boring??

You know, I am a big NASCAR fan, and used to look forward to and watch races from start to finish. Now, I am still a fan, but I can't even stay awake for an entire race. I don't know if I am just losing interest or if it really is more boring.

I listened to Claire B yesterday and she had I think Robin Pemberton from NASCAR on and he was very clear that Waltrip may not have done anything wrong. They took his car because there was clearly something different but they won't know until Wed or so if it was "cheating."

Kahne and Kenseth, definitely caught doing something "wrong" and clearly considered "cheating" in NASCAR's eyes.

Same reason that in formula one you must qualify with the engine you will race with. And lately your engine must last two races.

Teams were spending millions in development of "qualifying" engines that would only last three laps before exploding...

They don't actually cheat, just bend the rules somewhat. And other rules are open to interpretation, and others have grey areas. It's the crew chief's job to explore all the possibilities and see what they can get away with.

But just think, they caught 3 cars. How many did they miss?

It seems the gray area is where they try to get each car better.
They do say.

"if you aint cheatin then you are cheatin yourself".

I have heard alot of ways to punish the guys 9,17 and 55.
48 crew chief lost 4 weeks last year but they he still won two of those races so that did not work.

I guess you pull the car and make them use the backup car and start at the back of the race. I don't like th idea of sending the guy home, Imagine if they sent Junior home with the sea of red at tracks!!!!!

What are dis Nascar fans thinking about this?
