What is it rated and what age children do you think would enjoy the movie?

I have a 10 year old ds, 11 year old dd, and almost 3 year old ds. I am pretty sure the older 2 would love it, but my 3 year old I think will be scared. He loves the lion in the preview, but the rest of it will be too over his head and I'm afraid not appropriate for him.

I don't know the rating but I know the story. It would be over the head of a 3 yr. old I am sure. It will probably be too intense for him. Just my opinion for what it is worth.

We listened to the book on tape last summer and my five year old was very frightened and upset about some of the fighting and violence. I don't want to give the plot away, but some disturbing things happened.

I've been reading the book to my 6 and 4.5 yo girls. DD4.5 walked out of the room during one of the disturbing parts last night! She got a little scared.

I wanted to read it to them first so they wouldn't be so scared when we see the movie on Saturday.

Well, I held her on my lap and finished reading that part until the better part came.

She was ok but had trouble falling asleep afterwards because she was thinking about the story. But once she fell asleep, no bad dreams.

We have a few more chapters to go before the end of the book. So, we'll see.

Even though she was kind of scared she wanted to know what happened and is so looking forward to the movie. She has a movie poster up in her room.

I probably will wind up holding her on my lap during the movie.

OK, I won't give away plot details, either, but be forewarned. It is a very intense, frightening and often disturbing story. For what it's worth, C.S. Lewis was an Anglican theologian and there are distinct elements that relate to concepts of sin, salvation and redemption as he saw them. The following website has a plot summary. Reading it will give away the story but if you have young children, you need to be prepared for what happens.

This is really, Disney notwithstanding, not primarily a children's story... at least not a young children's story. I can't see how Disney could possible make the movie without including the critical plot points that C.S. Lewis used. Please don't take your 2 year old to this because they think the Lion is cute. Older children only and even then be prepared for difficult reactions.

Thanks everyone! That is what I thought. The little boys and I will stay home while dh takes the older kids. My dd11 is going on a field trip to see it in a couple of weeks. She is excited to see it before the rest of her class!

My ds2 1/2 is so trying to be a big kid. He is desperate to watch Star Wars. So far the cartoon version is more that satisfying his curiousity.
