Narcoossee's: Maine Lobster or Surf & Turf?

My husband and I will be eating here in a few weeks and I was planning on ordering the whole Maine lobster but I was wondering if it is actually very filling. I generally find most seafood to be light, probably because of the lower calorie content, but I want to make sure I won't leave hungry! How is it compared to the Surf & Turf? We won't be ordering any appetizers but will be having dessert.

I would not order lobster at Narcoosee's. Honestly, we had a very poor dinner there so I'd not order anything, but if you must go, choose something they can't mess up too badly.

Stick with the steak and no seafood. They just don't get it right. :guilty:

I've had the whole steamed Maine lobster at Narcoossee's several times and all of them were prepared perfectly. The claws were tender and the tail was slightly more firm; all of the meat was very sweet. Overall it was a light meal, so if you are a really big eater it might not leave you feeling stuffed. The surf and turf was also very good and would probably be more filling. My Dad said the filet was cooked perfectly and the tail was very sweet.

Narcoossee's is one of my family's favorite Signatures. We actually juggled our trip schedule around so we could go for a second dinner during our last trip.

Here are a couple of pictures:

To each their own, of course but Narcoosee's was one of the single worst meals we've ever suffered through at WDW.

Good thing Disney has such a variety of places to dine. What one person dislikes, another will love.

We are extremely particular about seafood, so keep that in mind too. Having lived in the north east (Rockland Maine, at one time) we are used to very fresh properly prepared seafood. Disney doesn't do it for us. :confused3

Thank you both for the reviews. :) I personally am not overly excited to eat here only because we are on the DDP (free, at least) so we have to each spend 2TS credits on it which I can't imagine it is worth, but lobster was my husbands ONLY request in regards to Disney.

I think I'll just play it by ear that night. If I'm pretty hungry, I will opt for the surf & turf but if I feel like a lighter dinner I will try the Maine lobster.

Thank you!

Just so you don't think I am lacking a frame of reference, I have eaten seafood (and lobsters in particular) all over New England. I've also lived in places where fresh seafood is abundant. Anyway, yes, to each their own and it is a good thing Disney has such a wide variety of food places to eat. So, hopefully everyone will find something they will like and enjoy.

To the OP, the desserts were also really good. The cheesecake was very creamy. The chocolate mousse was very rich and pretty. Some more pictures (sorry about the coloring, but I didn't use a flash):

I don't do the DDP so not sure if this is possible or not, but BlueZoo has wonderful seafood. Perhaps you could take your husband there?

Since he has requested lobster, then you should certainly get the lobster for him! :thumbsup2

Fulton's may have a lobster selection too, but again not sure if they are a DDP place.

Oh, you can get a lobster topped burger at some places (Like the Turf Room at SSR). :teeth:

BlueZoo is not on the DDP, but Fulton's just joined this year! It is also a 2 credit venue. There hasn't been much info on the boards yet about how some of the feasts, combos, and "add surf" to the turf combos are working when on the DDP (i.e., can you get then or are they OOP).

Great minds think alike! I was JUST looking at Fulton's since I remembered they joined the Signature bandwagon this year. I know we definitely want Maine lobster and some of their entrees are not Maine, but a couple are.

I'm specifically wondering about the "Louis Fulton's Ultimate Crab and Lobster Experience for Two"...it has what we want, and I would think we could both order it, but I may try emailing them to double check.

Also, I don't know if Disney's website is updated or if Fulton's actual website is -- directly on Fulton's website they list "Alaska Snow Crab and Maine Lobster", 10oz Snow crab and 1 1/4lb Maine lobster. That would work also, if their website is updated. Disney doesn't show that specific selection on their menu.

I think I will just have to email the restaurant to find out what is current, and what if any rules there are for using the DDP.

We always have the whole lobster and it's been great. We always have appetizers but I don't think you will leave hungry especially if you are having dessert!

Well, last night I emailed Fulton's and have already heard back from them! I was pretty impressed.

Their current menu is on Fultonscrabhouse.com which is good news for me. Also, they are working on a new dessert menu so there aren't any specifics on dessert but will soon. The email said it would include some classics such as pie, cheesecake, etc among other things.

I may be switching our ADR now to Fulton's...still undecided, but it is very tempting.

Pound-for-pound, lobster is very rich and filling, and a minimum size lobster will be just under 1.25 pounds (of course not all meat). If your husband is trully a lover of lobster, I wouldnt necessarily eat them at DW, esp Maine lobster. I recreationally fish for Maine Lobster up here in CT. My guess is that the lobster you get in DW is frozen live or Pre-cooked. Certain distibution networks will offer them pre-cooked in sea water to maintain that "fresh-out-of the ocean taste". Lobsters are very perishable and dont keep out of a controlled-salt-water environment for not much longer than a day or so. If a fresh lobster was dead when cooked, you can usually tell because the tail won't curl. Some restaurants will have a tank with live lobsters in it and people will think that you are eating the ones in the tank, but in reality, the tank is just for show. This is not to say that their lobster is not good, and if you are not used to eating fresh lobster, then you probably will enjoy it just the same.

I think he will be fine with any lobster served at DW. His only lobster experience thus far is a Maine lobster tail at Red Lobster -- in Washington state. he clearly is not a lobster aficionado with that one experience, he just really enjoyed the overall taste and would like to try it again. It is his only request for the entire trip so I figured it would be worth it to accommodate his request. :)

If Red Lobster is the extent of his experience, I'm sure he will really enjoy it. :thumbsup2 You are nice to consider his request... I wish my wife would care more about what I want to eat... Actually, I'm the designated Disney Planner so I guess I have that covered....;)

OP,
I haven't eaten at Narcoosee's, but I've read multiple times that the lobster served with the filet isn't Maine lobster. It's possible that it changes based on what they get in. I honestly don't know though. Since it's important to you for it to be Maine lobster, you may want to inquire about it.

My DH probably wishes that too. I did ask him for suggestions for next month, but I'm seriously considering cancelling his only suggestion for something else. :rolleyes1 He'll be alright. ;) He just likes good food. If I left it up to him to plan our vacations, we'd be trying for walk-ups at any destination. Our first day would be spent looking through brochures for something to do. I wish he was interested in planning.

I am from the Midwest - so not a lot of experience with "fresh" lobster (like your DH lol) and I loved the Surf and Turf at Narcoossee's. We had a date night there and had a great evening - We didnt set our expectations too high - we just loved having the time together alone! :lovestruc and we love to check out different resorts especially the deluxes and we took the boat to the MK and then took one to the Wilderness lodge and then did the same thing back - watched the Water Electric Parade and just enjoyed time together!

I will also say that the Almond Crusted cheesecake is one of my favorite desserts I've ever had! Yumm-o!!!

I also heard about the Surf & Turf being a rock lobster tail and not Maine. I've only ever had Maine lobster but I think other lobster is not as sweet as Maine lobster. I am afraid of being disappointed so I'll have to stick with the whole Maine lobster if we keep our Narcoossee's ADR. I am very strongly considering switching it to Fulton's, though.

The whole lobster I had there was very well prepared. The surf & turf probably is not fresh lobster (as you don't get 'just tails' fresh.)
Lobster is low calorie and not filling.... But throw in the melted butter, AND Narcoose's includes very fattening filling side dishes, plus dessert... You will probably be stuffed.

Signature dining is a poor value of the ddp, but the lobster puts it about on par with most 1 credit restaurants.

I know, I REALLY don't want to use 2 TS credits for one meal but since we are spending one full day at US/IoA, we have the "extra" credits. We won't need to pay OOP for any meals, including breakfast (using SCs for breakfast) so I can justify it a little more I guess.

I have seen so many photos of desserts at various restaurants and the recurring theme is that they are pretty large if not huge! I do think we'll be full from the lobster now, and we might actually appreciate a slightly lighter meal to offset the other meals we'll be eating.

We are from the Northeast and we know our seafood. With that said, we dined at Narcooses back in 2010 for our 25th anniversary and we loved it. 3 of us had the surf & turf and it was prepared very well. Not quite sure I'd say the lobster tail was from a Maine lobster but it was very tasty. We were so full between the main course & the dessert, that we practically had to "roll" out of there :rotfl2:.
