Sorry if I've spelled Narcoosees wrong. Could someone please clarify their dress code. I know that I read in one book that a woman can wear dress shorts. What exactly does that mean? And what is appropriate for a 16 year old young man. He's in a wheelchair and is always dressed fairly casually for ease of dressing; he's always neat and tidy but I don't know if we have anything that is "dressy" for him. We're not going until Sept. but I like to plan ahead especially if I have to go out and buy appropriate clothes.

Thanks

i've never eaten there, but i've eaten at Citrico's and I wore jean shorts and a "nicer" shirt and it was fine...here is was it says on allears...hope it helps! ;)

For the Signature Dining Restaurants, a "Business Casual" dress code is in effect:

Men - Dress pants, jeans or dress shorts and a T-shirt or long sleeve shirt with collar is required. (Jackets optional.)

Women - Jeans, skirts or dress shorts and blouse, sweater or dress is required.

NOT PERMITTED: Tank tops, swim suits or swim cover ups, hats for gentlemen, cut offs or clothing with rips/tears are not allowed. T-shirts with offensive language/graphics will also not be permitted.

We were there in March and the women wore nice shorts and the skirts that have shorts in them. The guys also wore shorts with polo shirts. I was told no flipflops but I did wear sandals because that is what we wear. I think if you wear nice clean casual wear with no holes, no bathing suits you will be fine. We felt fine and comforable. We don't dress up for Disney but we look nice, clean, and comfortable.

We ate at the California Grill and it has the same dress code. My DH wore golf shorts that were pressed and a polo shirt and sandals. The DD's and I wore very simple sun dresses from old navy and nice sandals. Very easy to pack and comfortable to wear. I only wish that I had brought a sweater because the A/C was set to fridgid!!!:rotfl2:

Narcoossee's is one of a few places I will dress up a little for. By that I mean I'll go back to the room and change out of my usual park shorts and T shirt into nice capris or pants, with a better shoe than my usual tennis shoes, and a nicer top than a T shirt. I've been there "dressed down" a little but I felt out of place.

I'd say a very nice dress pair of shorts would be fine, but a skirt or pair of capris or long pants would be better.

I don't think anyone will say anything about a young man in a wheelchair, even if he did show up in a bathing suit!!! But if you have them, a pair of shorts that are a little nicer than gym or sports shorts would be nice, and a collared shirt would be better than a T shirt. Again, though, if he is in a wheelchair no one is going to challenge you on his outfit - that would just seem too insensitive to me.

I am NOT planning on taking the time to go back to the rooma and change clothes just to go eat and then return to the parks.......

That's certainly your choice. I do think it's fair to let people know, however, what the "usual" dress for a particular restaurant is. If you are just planning to show up in whatever you normally wear to the parks, and it will clearly be different from what everyone else in the restaurant is wearing, I think you would at least want to know that. As I said, when I showed up in my park shorts, T shirt and tennis shoes, I felt very "under dressed", although I technically met the letter of the law as far as the dress code was concerned.

My personal view is if I want to eat at ione of the "dress code" restaurants I want to make an event out of it - otherwise I'd just eat at a TS restaurant in one of the parks, or go someplace like the Whispering Canyon where normal park attire is fine and expected.

Just my opinion...

Totally agree. We went in April and loved dressing up, having cocktails and champagne and just generally have a brilliant time. Some people had not changed but they were the minority on this particular night. I loved it there and would eat there again in a heartbeat. it's really nice to be able to dress up for a change.

I'm actually very fussy about how my son is dressed, so there will be no problem with him being dressed nicely. He almost always wears sport shirts with buttons when we're out. Even his tshirts are usually polo shirts with collars and such rather than a standard tshirt.

It's just me that doesn't dress quite as fancy. I do have some nice short sets or a new shirt with capris. It sounds like those will be perfectly adequate for Narcoosees. I'm really looking forward to the whole experience. I haven't gone to a fancy restaurant in many years. And "free" makes it even nicer.

Sounds like you will both be fabulous - and I hope you have a lovely time!!!

I wouldn't spend 2TS just to go eat. If you have a Narcoossee's ADR, perhaps you may want to rethink spending either the credits or $ if you're going just to eat. While the food there is excellent and worth eating, there are lots of less expensive places to do so at WDW. Narcoosse's offers a really nice dining experience, allow yourself that treat or go somewhere that may be more suitable for just a meal so you can head back to the park. Narcoosee's didn't strike me as slow, but I wouldn't go there planning to eat and run. Even our 5yo enjoyed dressing up: white sneakers, khakis shorts and short sleeved button down

For goodness sake, don't go out and BUY new clothes just to eat at Narcoosee's!!
We just came back from our trip last week and tho we didn't do Narcoossee's, we ate at 7 other Signature restaurants (including California Grill, Flying Fish, Yachtsman, and Citricos). The "business casual" code was stretched to the limit by many patrons. The "dress shorts" part of the code included cargo shorts and dungaree shorts. Many guests were in t-shirts. Many women had on simple tank tops. Tennis shoes, sandals and even flip flops were common. We saw nary a soul in a jacket or a dress.
My view is that you are not putting on a fashion show or making a fashion statement. As long as you meet the minimum "code" requirements, no one is really going to look at you-or care what you have on. Dress how you feel comfortable and don't worry any more about it.

anyone have an opinion on if madras shorts are "dressy" that is (was) my plan for my kids polo shirt and madras shorts I figure they will not feel out of place in the parks in that but it is "dress-ier than the t shirts and jean shorts they wear most days at least to me it is... to my mom Madras shorts remind her of hanging out on teh beach not eating out Dh is wearing Khaki shorts and a polo I will have on black capris and a nice shirt none of us wear many dresses

That sounds perfect - a nice pair of madras shorts and a polo shirt is a classic look and they will be adorable!!

Sorry, I have to disagree - not with your assessment of what people were wearing, which I am sure is accurate - but with the fashion show/fashion statement/no one will care part. For this restaurant, and for the others you mentioned, Disney obviously DOES care, or they wouldn't institute a dress code at all. And frankly, when I was there in my "casual" park clothes - even though they met the letter of the law - I was underdressed and it was obvious. I felt uncomfortable. The next time I went I dressed appropriately, and it made a difference to me.

I think it's tacky to show up in cargo shorts and flip flops. Why not just get a hotdog at Casey's instead? I am glad Disney has decided to put some guidelines in place - and just because people weren't willing to make more effort doesn't mean that other diners don't notice or care. I always notice the general dress in a nicer restaurant if it has a dress code - because I'm comparing the way I look to others and making sure I get a sense of what is best for me the next time. Of course it doesn't mean you have to purchase a new wardrobe, but I don't agree it means throw on whatever doesn't have a sweat stain and you're good to go.

I wish Disney would REALLY enforce the dress code.

I don't get the dress code thing. Why does everyone have to size everyone else up and determine whether or not they look appropriate to be there. I can see feeling uncomfortable being underdressed, but to look at others and care what they do in order to determine my own enjoyment... I just don't get it. What I really wish Disney would institute is an attitude/behavior code! I'm sick of sitting by bratty (and I don't mean just kids) patrons or ones who do not know how to behave in public.

If you were a "girl" we'd pull your membership card. Many of us book Narcoossee's just for this excuse; you're blowing our cover. :scared1: :lmao: We at least want a pair of shoes out of the deal; is that too much too to ask?

Just thought a bit of humor was needed here. I wore an old outfit that I hadn't used in a couple of summers and not since and a pair of Birkenstock type sandals. I felt very comfortable and right in place for the environment. Mom was bit dressier, probably something new she got for the trip. She always outdoes me in that sense (generational) and I'm just fine with that. I tend to spend my money on experiences and not things. (Chef Mickey's photo package was my only souvenir). My nephew just KNEW he was dressed up and was very happy with his choice. The next night he dressed up as a Pirate for the party(t-shirt, shorts and bandana). He was just having a fun fashion experience.

Us girls have one routine that is fail safe: "Are you wearing that?" I think we all know how that conversation ends.

That was my thought too. I'm happy to have an excuse to go out and buy something new. I'm going to go hunting for a pair of shorts to go with my new top instead of the capris I already have as I'm sure the capris will be too warm.

;) I've got you're back girl, it will definitely be too hot for those capris.

I'd guess dress shorts were not denim, not cutoffs, not short shorts and not cargo shorts (unless they're fancy ones with embroidery or something - I've seen some like that), but probably something like pressed twill or linen.
