Naptime and Disney Transportation!

Great suggestions...thanks :thumbsup2

Of course now I will keep them up for the whole bus ride and they won't fall asleep in the room

My DD (now almost 7) first went to WDW when she was 2-3/4 yrs. Since we come from CA we knew that naps would happen whenever she got tired (due to the time diff.) Sometimes she would nap in the room during our afternoon break but just as often she would nap in the stroller. On one particular day at AK our first ride of the a.m. was KS. I looked over at her sitting on my niece's lap and said "catch her, she's falling asleep." Yup, she fell asleep at about 9:30 a.m. and slept on the ride and in her stroller for about 1-1/2 hrs. On that same trip she also fell asleep at MK in the afternoon, during the parade. She also slept through the biggest rain storm we had ever seen at WDW at Epcot one day and woke up just in time for lunch in Japan.

On her second trip (she was a little over 4 and naps weren't as big a deal. She still occasionally did sleep in her stroller, however. Now, the afternoon breaks at the hotel are as much for us as they are for her. All she wants to do is go swimming! :sunny:

If she fell asleep in the stroller, we (3 adults) would take turns on rides so it didn't slow us down too much. :goodvibes

disneydaz - you had mentioned sleeping on KS. Now that you mentioned it, it reminded me that for the past three years my dd has fallen asleep on that ride and has not seen it yet!!

This year she will be 6 and keeps telling me that she "promises to stay awake on the safari, Mommy"...we will see ;)

The first time I went with a napper, my dd was 15 months old.

We returned to our room every day so she could nap in piece & quiet while dh & I sat out on the lanai, did laundry, etc.... (we were at the Poly, 1st floor).

Last summer both my kids then 4 1/2 & almost 2 both took after noon naps.

And then they were happy refreshed kids.

Incidently I have always taken a rest break since I started going in the mid-70's.

We took DS (13 months at the time) this past June and always ended up back at the room for a nap. He doesn't sleep in his stroller so that wasn't an option for us. He would usually fall asleep on the bus back to the resort...sometimes he would stay asleep, other times he would wake up once we were back in the room but we decided we needed a break anyway.

We'll be traveling to WDW again this November and he still takes naps so we'll see how it goes. Hopefully it'll be a bit cooler this time around and he can walk now so we might be able to stay in the parks a bit longer. Last trip we could only spend a few hours in each park before he would get irritable...and the lines were really too long to expect him to wait patiently. But I need to stop rambling now LOL!!!

Have a great time :Pinkbounc

Most posts seem to be about travel during the hot, busy season when parks are open late. What about in the off season when they close earlier? We will be there in December. Is there really time to leave and take a nap when some parks close as early as 5? It's an issue I've been struggling with! :)

Until my son is past the napping stage, I will NOT go without a rental car at WDW. The bus system cuts into too much of your day, especially if you return to the hotel for a break/nap/swim, and you go to a resort for a sit-down meal. My 2 yo did great this year and did great last year (at 16 mo) but with a car rental. I would not attempt to do everything we want without a car. Even though I was travelling as part of a 3-family group this time, a few times it was just me and my son. Can you imagine lugging him, the stroller, the diaper bag, the stroller rain cover, rain poncho, water bottle, etc onto and off a bus and holding on somewhere (when the bus is packed!)... or onto and then off the tram! No thank you. I got the car rental and booked my vacation through AAA so that I could get diamond pass (up close) parking... which is nearer than where most buses drop you off. You get in the car when you want and leave when you want... no waiting for busses! with tired toddlers!

The two times I did use a bus (with other family members to help), I saw no one else on with a stroller... they all use their rental cars!
