This is one of my favorite historical eras I enjoy studying about. Most people know about the USA's Louisiana Purchase but this movie could maybe partly cover our Quasi War (XYZ Affair/European refugees) with the French in the 1790's during the Reign of Terror and the Barbary Wars we participated in at that time as well. And yes, I realize majority of the movie will be French/European centric, but I would hope these conflicts will be mentioned in some capacity since it did affect our relationship with France and the rest of Europe during that time. Just some wishfull thinking as an American. The Noplionic Era was more than the name bearer's war. It affected this side of the Atlantic (War of 1812) as much as the European side. It even affected the Middle East and North Africa. I can't wait for this movie. Thoughts?

Most of my knowledge of it comes from regency period romance novels. 😄 I have been to the Army Museum in Paris (which is HUGE and we didn't wind up having enough time to get to the tomb of Napoleon) and the Napoleon suites in the Louvre.

It's also the era that Canada "thinks" they won the War of 1812 (the truth is it was a tie between USA, Canada, and the UK, NA tribes definitely suffered though).

The links above should definitely help summarize the history from an American perspective.

What do you hope to see in the movie? I can't wait to see the battle of Waterloo.

I have visited the Army museum in Paris and Napoleon’s tomb twice and still didn’t feel that I had enough time. The Louvre there is NEVER enough time. Finally, a movie I can get excited to go see in the theater.

With any type of documentary I want to know who the producer/directors are and how objective there were in trying to tell the story. Over the past 300+ years, memories can fade and there are always different ways to interpret what actually went on. No idea about this one, but some other documentaries have done a terrible job of representing things in a historically accurate manner.

We were at the war museum for about 4 hours and saw probably a little more than half of it. But it was 6pm and they were closing, so that was it. Saw the middle age armor and the world wars throughly, then a quick sprint through the Napoleanic wars before they booted us out.

It’s not a documentary, but a historical movie. I doubt it will be very accurate, but it’s Ridley Scott so it will probably be good.

It is going to be about 75% percent accurate probably but 25% exaggerated/fiction. Point number one being that Napoleon did not have an American accent and he was 24 not 48 when most of his important events started. If they ignore some of America's/Canada's involvement in some of these events, I will be very disappointed. He came back from power twice, so we will see if they show his whole story. This part of French history is about 40-50 years long (depending which historian you talk to).

Here's a quick summary:

Joaquin Phoenix is my favourite actor ever. I also love history and specifically the time period during the War of 1812. Ridley Scott is my favourite director. To say I am excited for this movie is such an understatement. I can't breathe lol... :worship::D

The battle of Waterloo will be epic I'm sure.
