Napa Rose.... worth it???

Don't compare Napa Rose to Club 33. They are completely different. Steakhouse 55 is great. But Napa Rose is really quite special. And while the Chef's counter is fun, if it's your first time, I recommend you getting a nice table. The waiters are all sommeliers and you have more room to spread out and enjoy all the great wine. True, at the counter you'll get to mingle with the chef and maybe have a special something prepared for you. But again, for a first timer, I'd make sure I got there nice and early and sit at the bar for a good while. The bar atmosphere at Napa Rose is fantastic. The bartenders are wonderful, as are the regulars, and it's perfect for getting in the mood for your dinner later. Or you could sit in the lounge or out on the patio around the fire pit. They have FANTASTIC wines, and your dinner there will be a great experience.
To the poster who asked to compare Club 33 to Napa Rose, Napa Rose is more refined in terms of gastronomic caliber. That said, Club 33 is much smaller and is a private club inside the park...and is by far the best food available inside Disneyland. And of course, there's the nostalgia. There's something sinfully exciting about sitting over New Orlean's Square and having cocktails that just isn't comparable to Napa Rose.
I guess I'm rambling. But my recommendation is this. Think about sitting at a table versus the counter. Get there early and absorb the atmosphere. One thing's for certain. You're sure to have a great time.

I would eat at NR over Club 33 any day if you are judging by food alone. I sat at the Chef's Counter with a dear friend on my birthday, and ended up with 7 courses and 7 wines that were beyond amazing. Chef Andrew really took care of us, and it was a wonderful experience. This was my first experience at NR, and I've heard from my friend that if I ever make it back, I'll be disappointed by the regular table service. I do hope to go back one day.

YES! We loved it! But we are used to fine dining and apppreciate it. For someone stressed out about the price or picky about food you might not care for it. I must say, we actually love Story Tellers as well and some of their dishes mimic eachother.

I would rather spend the money at Goofy's Kitchen and a new sweathsirt :lmao:! HA HA HA :lmao:! I sooo do not have a tasty food sense! Give me a loaf of bread and some cheese and I am a happy girl :lovestruc!!!

We are not sophisticated foodies, but were fortunate enough to be able to dine at Napa Rose in November - the food was so good, the service was fun and thoughtful, and the ambiance altogether good - I would say, don't miss this, at least try it once. DH got the flight of wines and he had a blast, BTW. LOL.

Oh... I am definitely a "foodie" so I am looking forward to the "event".

Good Food + Good Company + DL ...what else can I ask for!!!!

My DH and I want to go in march when were there but we dont want to take the kids (ds15, ds12, and dd8) bummer because we dont ever do DL without the kids! Maybe when they are older?!?!

You know, maybe my palate isn't sophisticated enough, but I really didn't enjoy it all that much. The menu is very heavy on seafood, and 'odder' meat..It was a beautiful place, but just not worth it for my taste (or the taste of the other 12 people with us). There are alot who rave about it though, so it's certainly a matter of taste, and you should try it. My favorite thing they served was the little sorbet things to cleanse your palate between courses...
Steakhouse 55 is very good..the asparagus isn't the best side choice though..

HA HA! Seafood and 'Odder' meat!:rotfl: I would love to eat at Napa Rose sometime but that was my opinion when I perused their menu. Lots of seafood and odd meats!

Hi -

I am going to DL in 2 weeks with my BFF of 20+ years and have ressies at NR for the Chef's Counter.

Is this really worth the money vs. other nice(er) restaurants where we can go to celebrate our "girls only weekend"???

Thoughts?

We are open to go anywhere but thought this would be a unique experience that we would not do on the trips that we have the kids

We are considering the same thing- dinner at Napa Rose at the Chefs Counter. We will be celebrating our 27th anniversary.

Thanks to all the replies here, I'm thinking it will be worth it but I have another question-
do you NEED reservations for the Chefs Counter? Can you ever get in as a walk-up? We will be there the first week of May on a Monday night. It's our arrival day and we're staying at the Villas at the GC. I think it will be a great way to kick off our Disneyland vacation!

Do I need a PS? And when do I make it (is it 60 days for DL)?

To answer your questions:

It would be best to have a ressie I am sure that if you tried on the day of arrival you "might" be lucky but I would not want to risk not getting a chance to eat at the Chef's counter just becasue I did not call!!! :confused3

They have only 2 seatings at dinner --- 5:30 and 8:30

You need to call Napa Rose directly ---714-300-7170

Not sure how far in advance they take them... I would assume the standard amount in advance.... I thought it was 90 days...but then again I always plan my trips on somewhat short notice as I cannot take the agony of all the "waiting to go time" :rotfl2:

Yes I would make a PS to be on the safe side. We did a Monday night in the middle of Dec..crowds were on the light side in the parks, but the restaurant definited had patrons. We chose the 8:30 time and on a chance checked in around 6:30 to see what things looked like and it turned out that the 5:30 PS had cancelled so we could be seated at any time. Good thing because we were still enjoying ourselves at 10:30 when the rest of the restaurant was empty, then again I took part in the wine flight and was taking my time. ;)

When you call the Napa Rose directly, leave a message and a CM will get back to you in a day or so and make sure to mention that it's your anniversary. We got a free glass of champage when we sat down and the most amazing box of chocolates (4 pieces) when we left.

Enjoy!

Not sure why your last experience was not ideal ... but I guarantee that the food was not pre-cooked at the Napa Rose.

If the food wasn't pre-cooked, then I guess the food is just not as great when it's a super busy holiday :confused3 But don't get me wrong, that one experience did not ruin my love for Napa Rose. I'll just think twice again before going on a big holiday. Plus, I like being able to order whatever I want from the regular menu ;)

Yup, definitely mention any special occasions that you are celebrating. DBF and I have celebrated our anniversary and birthdays there and got some delicious desserts on the house each time :goodvibes

What is the dress code like? Or more precisely, what do most patrons wear when dining there? I'm think of trying out NR on our arrival day in April. DH and I love fine dining, but aren't big on dressing up too much...especially on vacation!

How to you think NR compares to Club 33?

Jack

As someone who's been to Club 33 quite a few times... I honestly think Club 33 is kinda overrated, like I feel Blue Bayou is overrated. Honestly, while the food is great at Club 33, you're paying for the ambiance... same as you do at Blue Bayou (except that I think the food at Blue Bayou isn't all that wonderful).

Never been to Napa Rose though, it is on my short list of places to eat at when I visit my old stomping grounds again. Steakhouse 55 is wonderful though.

Never eaten at Club33, but BB, NR, SH55 are all very good, but you do pay a price just to eat there. For us, alot depends on my DGF(she has a picky palate). Just does not like or want to try different dishes. Not me ,I eat anything and everything(just not a big eater.) I do not have to pack it in to enjoy the meal.

Jack
