Apologies if this has been asked before, but I just couldn't find the info.

our youngest will probably still be napping when we cruise in May. If we only get the rooms around 1:30 on embarkation day, is it possible to have the kids' beds already laid out and ready? And for each afternoon, is it easy to pull down the bunk or murphy bed ourselves once we've seen them deployed?

The bunk bed needs to be pulled down by your room steward. It locks up into the ceiling and has a special key to lower it. You can talk to your room steward though and request that they leave it in the down position. Note though that if it is lowered all the time, it is very hard to avoid walking into it or possibly bumping your head on it.

I agree with the previously poster that it's somewhat hard to walk around with the bed down, but it can be accomplished if necessary.

We always just had our daughter nap on our bed or on the sofa with a blanket rather than pull down the bed during the day.

We would put her on the bed and close the curtains. Then we could sit on the sofa or out on the veranda and not bother her. Worked well for everyone.

Thanks for the quick responses...right now younger DS is a roller, so the bed could be hilarious! I'm hoping older DS drops his nap by cruise time...

What time is turndown service? While you're eating dinner?

turn down service is usually during the late dinner time frame. Really depends on where your stateroom is and how quickly your stateroom hosts works. We have had both early and late seating and we found that when we had late seating and we came back to the room after dinner, that usually our room was ready for the night. If you need it to be earlier, just simply talk to your stateroom host and let them know. They usually can work it out for you.

Pack an inflatable pool floatie. Stick her on the floor with a blanket and a pillow. Tell her it's a special "Mickey Mattress." Voila!:thumbsup2

I was always very adament about my children taking naps (and even if we were on a Disney Cruise!) But the hardest day to get them down for nap is on embarkation day. Even if you bring a noise machine, you may constantly hear outside banging as things are being delivered and set up. Also, if you get in your room and the luggage has not been delivered yet, a sudden knock on the door might wake up your child...

That's what we did. DD started cruising in 2010 at 3.5 and on 4 cruises, she napped. We finally weaned the nap after preschool finished in June, so our June cruise on the Fantasy she was napless (but still managed to take one once or twice!!!). Anyways, we did the above. Put her on the bed (left it made), then closed the curtain & sat on sofa or out on verandah. We did this for every nap. It was perfect!!!

I kinda miss her naps - DH used to go up to deck 4 & fall asleep & sometimes I would fall asleep on the sofa too!!!

Just remember, on that first day, you are required to attend the emergency boat drill at 3:45 pm. There are no excuses for missing the drill.

We never missed the drill. DD laid down almost immediately when we entered our stateroom & was woken up right before the drill.

I know, this is why I was asking if things could be set up for us when we arrived...room at 1:30+ drill at 3:45=not much time for excited kiddies to fall asleep!

The murphy bed also has a special key to lower it...I'm sure you will be able to find your room steward in the hall and I'm sure they will gladly lower it for you.
