NaNoWriMo 2008?

I want to do this, but I seriously just finished an 80,000+ word story...and I'm just a tad mentally exhausted.

Plus, isn't it late to start now? I'm already behind.

Well, given that I see "winners" already, I figure I can knock it out in - what? - 25 more days...

But I can see how that would be a bit of a drain after 80,000 words.

Hey hey NaNo'ers... I nearly quit this afternoon. I'm not sure what came over me, but I just did not want to go on.

Goal tonight: 4000 words.

How is everyone else doing?

I'm on track (according to those snazzy NaNo calendars.). I'll be at 10,000 tonight hopefully. But I know what you mean about quitting, I hate my story right now! I wish I could start over, but I just tell myself that all first drafts are... usually really bad. Don't give up! We're here for you to rant and complain to!

I'm between 5-6k words as of yesterday and I haven't gotten anything done today. I don't think I'm going to make it.

I'm close to giving up this go around, the plot is falling apart on my cross-over.

Quick version: Tenth Doctor meets Violet from ASOUE and she becomes his new Companion

I'm up to about 3600 words at the moment (if I could just count the 3300 I threw out on the first plot line then I wouldn't feel sooo far behind)

So anyone know how "word wars" work? That sounds like way too much fun.

Word wars are actually really easy, and you can do them with someone else (or lots of someone), or with yourself.

Let's see... Like if you did a 10 minute war you (and whomever you were warring with) would pick a time, like 3:30 and then you would write like crazy as soon as it hit 3:30 and you would stop at 3:40 (10 min) and whoever had written the most wins! And you can do it with just about any time amount.

Does that make sense?


--- And don't give up anyone! I know you all can do it! It's hard, but so worth it. Just take it in baby steps. Just 100 more words, and then another 100, before you know it, you'll be done!

I read about this in my Woman's Day. I just signed up over there tonight (Pepperw23...surprise ha ha). I write, but not as much as I should or even want to. Maybe this will help me.

I am having a hard time finding my way around over there though.

I know what you mean about having trouble getting around over there. I'm not much for change. I love the old and familiar, hence, I like being on DIS. But I am looking around over there... finding a few things interesting and helpful.

I made it to 4000 last night!! 4041 to be exact! Goal for today is 3000 more... Anyone else want to share a goal?

Wait! Wait! I didn't know this thread had come back to life!

I went to my first write-in last night at Borders. I couldn't stay long, but it was fun while it lasted. There was a 10-minute word war while I was there. I, unfortunately, was pathetic. I only got 293 words. Someone else got 900!

At this point I'm at about 6,000 words, but I'm writing between and with migraines.

CourtasanSatine - I think your plot sounds really neat! I can totally imagine the conversations that Violet and the Doctor would have! He'd probably love having an inventor around.

Z.Black: the whole plot was inspired by a multi fandom RPG I'm in as Violet! She and The Doctor bonded over being geeks and the thread was too cute so it triggered a plot. He shows Violet there is more to life than being on the run from Count Olaf and she shows him its ok to have fun and lighten up a little (plus loads of geeking out moments).

Well yesterday sucked it up... I got just about 1000 words.. and I wanted 3000... BUUUUT. I got to see my best friends 2 week old baby for a while, so I guess that makes up for the fact that I will have to work even more today....

How's everyone doing? Yesterday was much more productive, but I still want to get further along today. I'd love to hit 11K this evening.

I never realized how much your characters can take over... I swear, my MC is writing the book herself.

I'm up into 4k words so I'm doing what I can to catch up! This has been unusual writing for me in that usually I do a good job of developing my characters and my plot is a little weak, but this time I feel like I've got a good backbone for plot but my characters are all pretty dull. They need a lot of work!

I'm about 3,000 words behind where I'd like to be. Hopefully I'll make a lot of that up tonight! I also find my MC's writing the story rather then me sometimes. I feel like I turn around for one moment, and he goes and does something he's totally NOT supposed to do, and then I'm left goining

I just broke 10000!!! Yay! and darnit!! I want the little widget to update itself!!!!

So, my MC just revealed to me that she was once married. Who knew?

Violet is having a field day since the Torchwood crew just came into my crossover for some reason. Its like she and Ianto are bonding and Tosh wants to make her a kid sister.

Mayday, mayday!!! I need a serious kick in the pants. I've got 2-3 gaping plot holes and no idea how to fill them... and I can't seem to make myself write because of them.... auuuuuugh!
