Back in the Spring, I was at a friend's place where she offered me some fruits. I picked one that was:
1. about the size of an apricot,
2. golden, smooth yellow (kind of like a golden plum)
3. you had to peel to eat the flesh,
4. it had three stones inside, smaller than an apricot stone and smooth
5. the flesh was juicy, not like a peach or an apricot, but rather like a star fruit, not quite as juicy as a plum

Well, I took the 3 stones and planted them right in my back yard about 2 or 3 months ago. Now it's budding and I have no idea what it is. My friend didn't know what the fruit was either and since it's out of season now, nobody at any grocery stores know it either.

I can't seem to be able to post a picture of its leaves here but I hope someone can identify it so I can care for it appropriately.

Thanks.

Could it be a nectarine?

Doesn't a necterine have just one main seed, like a peach? Could it be a loquat or a kumquat??

I think your friut may be a loquat.

Loquat

There are several varieties and I think one of them may have been what you had.

Welcome to the Flower & Garden board, Persicus, and off2disney! :)

Does your tree fit the Loquat description? :)

Thank you all.
My wife thought the fruit was medlar, but I knew medlar to look different.
According to Mamu's link, Loquat is also known as Japanese Medlar and is related to medlar (which is round and brown).

So I guess the mystery is solved. Now that it's growing in my backyard in Ontario, I'll have to find a way to keep it warm in winter. :D

Thanks again.
