Hello from the other side of the pond
Can you tell me how to pronounce the name Siobhan?
Is it an Irish name?
I am reading "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" Siobhan is the name of one of the characters.
Thanks so much! :)

Not sure if there's multiple ways of pronouncing it but I've always heard it pronounced "shivvon".

I think it is Shi von :) and I think it has Celtic roots?

Hope you are enjoying the book - I think it's great!

Siobhán: Yes it is an Irish name and it's pronounced as above 'Shivaun!' Its usually spelled with whats called a 'fada' (meaning long in English) on the 'á' which lengthens the sound of that vowel! :shamrock:

Thanks everyone
Yes I am loving the book
It's an easy read

It means Joan, (for sure) and I was told also it meant Susan in English. My family told me that I was named after my mother (Joan) and my grandmother (Susan) I was told it is pronounced Shi vawn
