Hi. I need some help... i'm planning on going to WDW after our wedding there, for a Disney cruise. It'll be a few months after the wedding. My question is, since i'm booking things like the reservation and airfare now, and i have my maiden name, what happens after the wedding when i change my name? My airfare would be under my maiden name, so would my disney reservations, and my birth certificate, which i need to board the cruise would all have my maiden name.

Should i wait to change my name til we get back.... can i do that?? or do you have to get your name changed right away?

THANKS:yay:

Wait to change your name til you get back. There is no rule that says you have to change it right away - or at all! ;) You can call yourself whatever you want without officially changing it, and then do the paperwork when you get back.

I waited 15 years to change mine...but I had been using the hyphenated name all that time. I continued to use my maiden name for work after I got married - so it was all good with my Social Security number and taxes.

I would not stress out about this before your trip. Do it after your convenience afterwards.

Definitely wait. A friend of mine waited several months to legally change hers for similar reasons. You will still be Mr. & Mrs. so-and-so, you just won't have to worry about your credit cards, passport, etc. matching up when you travel.

The only thing that makes me go hmm is that you said you are going on a cruise. I thought last year they started making everyone have a passport when traveling by air or sea. So you might need more than just your birth certificate.

Not sure where you are going, but I think they started doing it to any cruise ship going to the bahamas & other countries.

Also you can change it whenever you feel like it, I know someone who waited 4 years after they got married to change it. It doesn't take that long but if you would rather wait that easy too.

Good luck!

For our honeymoon, we wanted to put my name as my married name for the resort and tickets and all that. Does that matter? Airfare will be in my maiden name because you need an ID for it. I never had my ID checked at disney before (except for maybe alcohol) so does it matter if the reservation is in my married name?

I think the only problem you might run into is if you make your room card a charging card and they want to check your id. Other than that I can't think of why else they would look at your id.

Wait until you get back. We left on our honeymoon to Europe 2 weeks after our wedding and was lucky that I got my passport back in time.

disney cruise line and the government page on the passport says that you can travel by sea outside of the us w/o a passport, just your b.c. and i.d. up until July 2009. Luckily our cruise is before July.

I would wait! For our honeymoon, we went to Europe and went on a cruise and my plane tickets and cruise passenger name was in my maiden name, so was my passport. I wouldn't want to deal with the mess that could happen if you try to check in under a different name than what you are booked for.

I would wait to change your name until you got back. All of our reservations for our honeymoon have my maiden name to avoid any problems with flying.
