Well, I didn't mean that children shouldn't be scanned. I mean, if I had a child that I personally would not feel comfortable with some man looking at naked outlines of my childrens genitals...
ETA - I just found this on the Sky News site, "The airport has now said that no under-18s will be allowed to use the device unless it can clarify the law on indecent images of children." So I guess kids won't be allowed through!
As it said it is a trial, so nothing cast in stone. Sorry if it upsets you re your kids but what is the point of bringing something like that in if it is not going to scan EVERYONE irrespective of age!!

Oh well this is certainly different! Goodness help people who have intimate piercings or have had their breasts enlarged!!
In all fairness though, I don't think I'd mind as long as it was clear that the image is deleted almost immediately after I'd gone through the scanner and that the person in the room was in there alone, with no other communication devices, such as a mobile or internet usage.
I agree that children also shouldn't have to be placed through the machine, that in my eyes would be wrong.

Yes agree everyone needs to use it otherwise some extreme terrorist is going to use a child as a 'tool' to get a 'device' through the check Surely an image is better than a child being touched and searched?
I would feel more comfortable with this I think and its not like you really look naked or anything, its just an outline not like its porn or anything! After having an incident a couple of years ago when I was pulled aside and frisked by a rather butch heavy handed security woman, I would much rather go through this scanner - I'd been pulled aside and frisked before but that time I felt violated! I can completely understand the concerns that parents are having and that does make me feel slightly uncomfortable - but is it that different to a normal medical scan? I think they would have to be CRBed. Anyway, guys seriously we are all beautiful human beings and we should all love our bodies and celebrate our wondrous nakedness lol.
I think it's a great idea! I'm all for 100% non privacy in airports.
Who cares if someone sees me naked or watches me having a wee, if it means that if someone were trying to smuggle something under their clothes, or put a bomb in the bathroom they got stopped.
These people will jsut be looking at such images all day, the same as doctors have to look at naked people all day, I'm pretty sure the novelty wears of pretty fast!
I would welcome this, as I'm unable to go through the metal detecters due to having a pacemaker, I always get pulled aside and frisked by security.
I would much rather go through this scanner, then been pulled aside and frisked and the family are always waiting for me at the other with all my bits and bobs.
I can completely understand the concerns that other parents are having but I do think everyone should go through them.

I am all for it, adult, child we all have the same body outline which is what they will see. When I walk though I am sure the tech's experience will be more traumatic than mine will be (OK, maybe I need to work harder on my diet! lol) If it makes travel safer then I think it is a great thing. Speaking as someone who has worked back stage at a theatre and has seen many, many people stripping off for a quick dress change (inc the blokes who were dames in a panto; yeah I towelled the sweaty bloke in the stage bra and dress!!) you really don't look at the image in front of you in detail other than what you need to see.
I honestly think that with so many people going through every day, nobody looks at the images as a "body" if you know what I mean. I don't really want people to see my "profile", but I don't think I will stand out any more than the next person from the hundreds going through before and after me!
I'm also all for anything that makes us safer. They aren't looking at the bodies - they are looking specifically for certain things that indicate a problem. I imagine there would be fewer false alerts this way as well, which will be a help!
lol, after giving birth to 2 children and one of those times had a whole load of student doctors looking at me during the process, all hints of shyness have got blown straight out of the window. I just don't care.
