Hi everyone! I feel silly even asking this. My DD is 3.5 going on 15 (ha!) and has been asking lately about nail polish (!!!). I don't think I've worn nail polish since she was born so I have no idea where this comes from!

Anyway - she was asking if she could wear it, and when she could wear it, and I tried to evade her questions.

So, I was thinking that I could use nail polish as a big reward of some sort. If I do -- are there any "kids" nail polish? Quick-drying, or at least non-toxic?

TIA!

I had the same concerns with my first daughter. I asked the pediatrician and he said not to worry. As soon as the polish dries it's non-toxic. Just paint her nails in a well ventilated area, and avoid polish removers.

I occasionally allow my girls to have polished nails now, but only light colors and then we let it wear off. It usually only takes a week or so with how active they are!
Hope this helps,
Sarah

I know over here in the UK you can get a kids nail polish that is non toxic and it also just peels off so no need for any removers. It can also just be washed off with soap and water.

My DD is the same, really girlie and I am anything but, I don't know where she gets it from :thumbsup2

i used to paint my dd's toenails when she would sit on the potty. one toe each time.

Oh how cute..

My DD wanted her nails painted about the same age....and I tell you - once you start its HARD to stop!

I swear I'll put acrylic on her nails as soon as she's old enough (maybe 10) because she LOVES HER NAILS PAINTED...and with a regular manicure - it only lasts for her a few days.

We usually do something in the pink family.....and once she's did a light blue.

Have fun! What a special time with a Mom and a daughter (btw - we normally use OPI on her since that is what I wear when I get my nails done).

Target has an end cap in thier cosmetics area that caters to little girls cosmetics. They have Hello Kitty and Disney Princess lip gloss and nail polish and I think a few types of body glitter.

My dd (4) LOVES the Hello Kitty polish which has a hint of sparkle to it. It dries really fast, and doesn't stick like adult polish but doesn't fully peel like the UK kinds (I loved peeling polish when I was little :lmao: ). It tends to wear off in 2-3 days. Also when we put it on her and tell her to sit still until it dries, she'll sit with her legs straight out and fingers splayed until we tell her to move, she doesn't want to ruin her nails!! :cutie:

At WDW you can also purchase the nail polish that they use at the BBB. I have always painted my dd's nails (starting at 15 mos LOL) and never worried about it, but if you have a thumb sucker it could be an issue.

Santa brought DD a Cinderella makeup & nailpolish set 2 years ago. It looked nice and washed off to her dismay (my delight) when she bathed. I think Walgreens helped him with that delivery.

The peel off kind can stain clothing if it comes off the nails and stays on the clothing long enough (pajamas in bed).

My 2 younger girls love to have their nails done (they are 4 & 7). They are going tomorrow to have them done in red with little white dots and a mickey mouse head on their big toes for our trip Sunday;)

I always use the quick-drying kind for DD. She's almost 10, but she still doesn't like to sit still for too long waiting for them to dry, so the 60 second kind works for us.

Dd (5) got a makeup set as a gift this Chanukah, from Libby Lu (iirc). She loves the nail polish - it is very sheer, and dries very quickly. It also wears off without needing remover. You do need to do 2 coats to really be able to see much of it, lol. She has 2 bottles - pale pink, and pale gold sparkly, and she likes to alternate nails/colors.

It is funny, since I never wear nail polish, either! I used to wear it regularly in high school, but not anymore.

The rule in our house is no finger-nail polish. It might just be me, but I think it looks a little trashy (please take no offense). I myself don't wear anything but clear. It chips and fades and looks 'un-done' very easily.

My girls love me to do their toes! And I'll do their toes in fun bright colors. The 8yo gets a little more crazy then the 4yo.

That is just how it is with us, and you don't have to be concerned about putting the polish in their mouths etc.

I'm new and usually a lurker, but I thought I'd respond to this one since I just placed an order last night at for Piggy Paint, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the link, but it pops up on google. Looks really cute and they have a non-toxic remover too. It was just what I was looking for for my 3 year old dd. I've never painted her nails, use natural shampoo, etc. Hope it helps.:flower3:

I've not worn nail polish since I had dd but she was going crazy for it :goodvibes I love the potty idea but we're past that stage now but she's only allowed her toe nails done and it's such a treat, she loves every minute. We did use the peel off stuff but now I use the stuff which dries in 60 seconds and it's fab, no complaints and cute little toes ;)

I have a 10 year old, we've always painted toes but not nails. She's been asking about nails, and in a way I'm glad I waited. She is still a bit of a tomboy, and her hands and nails always get dirty. I have been trying to get her to start clipping her nails and putting lotion on her hands. I told her she can't wear nail polish until I see her learning to take care of her body, part of growing up.

Also, although I haven't let her paint her nails, I really don't think it's THAT big of a deal, so I have something I can appear to give in to when it's time. If you give in to everything all at once, there's nothing to look forward to and they just want more even earlier. My experience anyway!

(I'm still holding out on colored lip gloss too! She only gets clear...)

My dd who will be 5 in aug. has been wearing nail polish (occasionally) since about 2 1/2 also. At first I was very against it and thought it was "trashy", but shes a girl and looking back, I did the same thing. I only allow clear/sparkly nail polish or a very light pink. Its a fun mommy daughter thing to do especially on rainy days princess:
