N.J. Spring Break vs Jersey Week??

My trip is 4/48 to 5/4. I thought I had missed all the school Spring Breaks but see that N.J. has theirs the last week in April. Does this impact the parts as much as Jersey Week in November? We were there for Jersey Week in 2002 and I thought they had closed the entire state of New Jersey and sent them to WDW! It's not that I don't like New Jersites, I just don't like crowds.

The only standard break in NJ is "Jersey Week" (early Nov.) They do literally close every public school on THur & Fri for this state wide conference.

Spring breaks are all different, so although it looks like you found someone that matches you it probably isn't many. Most districts I know by me either have 4/5-4/9 or 4/12-4/17.

Enjoy

Dare I ask... anyone have dates for "Jersey Week" 2004??

Is it the entire week or just the Thur/Friday??

We will be there 10/30 - 11/6 and were hoping to miss at least part of the crowds.
Thanks,
Sara (obviously NOT from Jersey!!)

Sorry Sara, you're out of luck. The conference is the 4&5, which means many people spend that whole week there.

I will promise you crowds aside, we are well mannered;)

I am from NJ and not aware of any time off the end of April--our kids are off Easter week---as far as Nov. Jersey week--I already know alot of people who will be there--we decided to do a week in October this year.

We only have off Easter week in April. Jersey week isn't bad in November. Flipping through the boards I have to say I am a little insulted at the derogatory comments made about Jersey. I guess people from Jersey are a little too educated to make such comments about people from other states!

We live in NJ and our spring break is also during the week before Easter plus Easter Monday. Most school districts in our area are off the same time. I know of one private school that has an additional week off for spring break but I think that is pretty rare.

Hi, I'm from NJ and I agree with the other posters......most people I know have off either the week before Easter or the week after Easter. Never at the end of April.
We went in 2002 during "Jersey Week" and literally walked onto rides. We didn't hit these so called crowds that everyone is talking about. Sure, if you go to the MK on a Saturday or wake up at 10:00 and don't hit the parks until 12:00.....you will definately get lines no matter what time of year that you go. My motto, "The early bird always gets the worm". Sleep in 2 days and enjoy the hotel pool, and definately get to the parks early. This way no matter what time of the year you go, you will be able to enjoy yourself!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

PS. I think I'm nice and I'm from "Jersey":D

I didn't mean to imply that I didn't like people from N.J. I just don't like crowds and try to plan my trips to WDW when no one else will be there.

Sawyermaw1, I knew what you meant. I just had to give someone who lives in beautiful virginia beach all year round....a hard time! Enjoy your disney trip. I'm sure no matter what time of the year you decide to go, you will have a wonderful vacation!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I found the culprits. I just spoke with my Aunt and the Basking Ridge/Bernards schools are off that week. It is really the only district I know of though so I wouldn't worry.

My husband teaches in Bergen County, New Jersey and his school is off during the last week in April. That's, in fact, when we are going.

May be it's a county or a town thing?

Spring break varies from district to district throughout NJ - usually the week before or the week after Easter, but not for all schools. MY daughter's preschool follows the North Haldeon Public Schools (Passaic COunty), and they are off the last week in April.

As for 'Jersey Week,' most public schools and some private schools close, usually ONLY for two days, on the Thrusday and Friday of the NJEA Teachers Convention, which is held annually in Atlantic City. Some families will take their kids out of school for the week, figuring they can get a week to ten day vacation, while only missing three days of school. Some families will only go for the long weekend -- and some don't go at all ;)

Hope that helps!

Just to let you know, Woodbridge Township (which includes the towns of Woodbridge, Avenel, Sewaren, Iselin, Keasbey, Fords, Colonia. and Hopelawn) have that entire week off. Two days are for convention, and the others are days that are floated from other holidays (i.e. Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Election Day, etc.). I believe there are some other districts that also have the whole week off.

I'm from NJ also and the public school is off that week in Nov. (next to Woodbridge Township), My daughter goes to private school , they don't have off that week. They are off the Easter week though.

Sawer,
I wasn't talking about you. I had just left a thread that tee'd me off. I won't mention which one.
As for that Nj week in November my children only have off 2 days that week. My step-daughter has off the whole week.(also in NJ)
He, he! We always go that week and it really does seem like they close down the state and send everyone. We met up with so many people on the drive going down. Even ran into my step daughter's teacher at a rest stop.
You really should be good for those dates that you picked. My sister went Easter one year and said it was a complete nightmare!
Have fun!!!::MinnieMo

We are going from 11/6-11/13. Does that mean that we planned it perfect or will it still be crowded? When is soap opera weekend? The 6th or 13th?

We have visited during Jersey week and just returned last night. The crowds over the past couple of days were significantly worse than Jersey week. I would definitely choose the week in Nov. over spring break. That said, I don't really think the week in April you are speaking of is spring break. We went the first week of May two years ago and there were NO crowds.
