MYW tickets - adding on days?

Okay, here's the situation.

For our trip last August, my family - consisting of dh, myself, dd13 & dd9, invested in 10 day MYW non-expiration tickets with park hopping and 5 plus days. We've been on 2 trips since buying them and still have 5 park days and 3 "plus" days left on each of our tickets.

We assumed we'd always travel together to use these tickets as that's what we've always done. Well, now my best friend, who lives in FL, wants me to come down for her birthday weekend in May. So, the rest of the family won't be coming - just me.

Well, she and I plan to go to Disney and park hop for 1 or 2 days. So ... I'm trying to figure out what would be the best plan for me ~ using my current ticket or buying a new MYW ticket or even buying a ticket at the gate.

If I use my MYW ticket, I will have less days than the rest of the family and so eventually I will have to buy more for myself when we go on future trips. If I buy a one day or two day new MYW ticket, I will have to pay extra for park hopping and it will cost quite a bit (that's why we bought the 10 day passes - it made more sense economically since we go to WDW 2-3 times/year).

Does anyone have any ideas of how to do this best? Can you add on to your current MYW tickets? If so, how do you do this and will it still cost the same as buying a 1 or 2 day MYW ticket?

Since your ticket was a 10 day ticket you cannot "add more" days on as 10 days is the highest ticket day available.

You might be able to trade it in for an AP but I don't know how much value you would get from it.

How does it work to trade it in for an AP?

I am planning on this trip in May (1-2 days) and another trip in Dec. for about 8 days, so maybe this would be a good option for me.

If you decide to buy MYW tickets, I think that you get a discount for buying them in advance instead of at the gate.

Trading in a partially used ticket used more than 14 days ago towards an AP is short rated, usually highly undesirable. As a rough idea, you consumed 5 days out of a 10 day pass. Take the price you paid, subtract the price of a 5 day ticket, and the trade in value is what remains.

My suggestion for this vacation without the whole family: Because your old ticket completely spans this vacation, continue using it as-is. On your vacation after that, should your old ticket be insufficient for this third go-round, buy a new ticket to completely span the vacation, or perhaps more days with non-expiration if many days will be left over. On the vacation after that (the fourth go-round) use the remains of the tickets bought for the first and third vacations.

Oops, I didn't see the part of your third vacation being for 8 days. For 8 to 10 day vacations, everyone should get new exact length (8 day here) expiring tickets (if annual passes don't work out), saving any older leftovers for further off in the future.

The break even between an AP and regular tickets is about 13 theme park days.
