I'm wanting to upgrade my 5-day Park Hopper MYW ticket to a 6-day Park Hopper MYW ticket. We will be staying at Pop Century. Would I be able to do the upgrade at the resort front desk or do I have to wait until I get to one of the parks? TIA!

From everything I have read you should have no problems upgrading. Yes you can do it at the resort not sure about the front desk, I think there is a guest relations counter that can help or at any guest relations booths at the parks or at DTD. Sit tight and I am sure some more experienced dis'ers will respond.

Technically, for most tickets purchases from non-disney sources, you lose any advance purchase discount if you try to modify the ticket. Hearsay has it that the chances of getting a little extra pixie dust to get around that are better if you do the upgrade at a park.

Adding the sixth day to an expiring MYW pass purchased dirctly from Disney costs about three dollars.

That is not true. You DO NOT lose any advance purchase savings when you upgrade a ticket. From what I have read here, resort CMs do not know how to do this for some reason. Take your tix to Guest Relations AT A PARK and you will just pay the 5 to 6 day difference.

SO, we are booked for September with free dining and we only purchased one day tickets (because DH & I have tickets left from our last trip). We will need to upgrade our grandsons tickets. We were told to do this when we booked. Are you saying it will be most cost effective to upgrade AT A PARK rather than at the POP resort we are staying at? We will be going from the one day base ticket included with the package to a 5 day hopper (probably).

In theory, it should cost you the same amount of money to do the upgrade at either a Guest Relations loaction or a resort Lobby Concierge. In practice however, it may not.

It seems that a lot of CMs working in Lobby Concierge are unaware of how to handle a ticket that was bought in advance at a discount from a non-Disney source (AAA, FL ticket wholesaler, etc).

The LC CMs are supposed to do a paperwork upgrade of the ticket to Disney's gate price before doing the actual upgrade. That means you would be paying only the price difference between the gate price of your original ticket and the gate price of the new, upgraded ticket. You would not be paying the difference that you saved by buying the ticket from a discounter.

But many LC CMs are either unaware of how to do this properly or just plain do it incorrectly. The result is that you would end up paying the price difference between both the gate prices and the amount of your discount on the original ticket purchase.

Guest Relations CMs seem to be much more consistent in doing the upgrade correctly.

But in your case Karla, it shouldn't be a problem for you since your tickets were purchased from Disney to begin with. If LC doesn't know how to handle those, then it's time to transfer them to the parking lot trams. ;)

We bought our tickets from Undercover Tourist. Do you think we'll have any trouble upgrading these from 5 day to 6 day at Pop Century, or do you think we'd be better off waiting until we get to a park?

I would do it at a Guest Relations at any park.

Thank you. That's what I'll do to be on the safe side.

Are you absolutely positively sure? To the extent I should openly suggest that anyone who ended up losing their advance purchase discount should on their next Disney vacation expect a rebate towards their next ticket or towards souvenirs or meals?
