Ticket Experts… please Please PLEASE HELP!!! I thought I had this “Disney Thing” figured out… then they go and make all these changes

I’m trying to budget for our upcoming trip in Dec. We will need 5 days worth of tickets w/ park hopping for 3 people – 2 adults & 1 child. We don’t need any plus options.

What we bring to the table – 1 ticket from last year – a 7 day park hopper + w/ 2 park days left on it and NO options used. We purchased the tickets last year (November) from Hotwire Savings Club – I’ve read we will only get credit for what Hotwire paid Disney? How on earth do I find out what that credit would be??????

I am pretty sure myself & dd will go next year – so purchasing a non-expiring ticket w/ extra days might be a good deal? I’m not sure about dh – he isn’t as “Disney crazed” as I am – he just doesn’t get it :sad2:

I was thinking I might get 2 10-day non-expiring for myself & dd (purchasing in advance from a discount broker) – then use the credit from my old ticket towards the purchase of a 5 day for dh? – If he feels moved he could always upgrade before we leave?

HELP!!!!! I really don’t know what to do – A part of me says just buy what you need & save the $ & worry about it next year…

:worship: OH PLEASE DIS FAMILY!!!! HELP!!!! :worship:

~I’m posting this on the Theme Park Attractions & Strategies Board as well as the Budget – I wasn’t sure which is the right one.

You must be at WDW, at a guest relations booth, to find out what the actual remaining trade up value is. But you do not have to follow through and do the trade up if the value told to you is too small for your needs, and you do not have to go into the park either immediately before or immediately after the trade up.

Probably the best thing to do with the remains of that Hotwire purchased 7 day ticket is to simply hang on to it until you take a vacation consisting of 1, 2, 3, 11, or 12 days, the use it as is.

Next best thing but a distant second best is to trade it up towards one of the 10 day non-expiring tickets you were thinking of, while purchasing the 5 day pass for the one family member as expiring. If you did the trade up of the old ticket towards the 5 day pass, you must get non-expiration for that pass too. (Why I say distant second is that the old pass still has four waterpark visits that do not contribute to its trade up value. If you use one of the waterpark visits before trading up then the new pass you are trading to must have the plus pack purchased. Also you cannot get the advance purchase discount you were thinking of.)

Rule of thumb is you are better off using your old tics AS IS. If you try to trade up, yes you will get the remaining value toward your new passes, but you will also have to have every one of the same options, ie: park hopper, non expiring, and plus option, as your old pass, which may be more than you were looking to purchase.

I would recommend that you keep your old tics as is, and purchase your new tics with only the options you know you would like to have.
