We just got back from a week long stay at Ft Wilderness and were on the MYW dining plan. There were a few inconsistencies such as being charged at Le Cellier for a side veg but getting skewers of shrimp included at Kona Cafe and Spoodles. We were also disapointed at Citricos as it required 2 TS options and we went on Sunday when only a Mother's Day Buffet was offered at $47/person. Disney Dining didn't inform us when I made the PS and by the time we got to the restaurant it was too late to make other arrangements.
I wrote down most of the prices of what we had but also had to use the menus online so I might be off a few dollars here and there.

Dh and I felt in the long run it was a good deal. We would have spent $500 on food no problem but not have eaten as well and the think we really like was having the option. So normally I would not order the most expensive item or maybe we would split some meals but we liked being able to try new things.

Wow! You sure did save a bundle! I can't beleive how much you save on this plan. Let's hope they don't put the prices up too much next year....

It's a great value, and seems like you had a wonderful time eating at WDW!

LOVE those detailed reviews! :teeth:

You dined at many they we have chosen for November so it was particularly helpful. It's nice to see the counter service in detail!

How was the general quality of counter service desserts?

You also mentioned a celebration dessert at Kona. Do you remember what it was? Some really lovely pictures have been circulating with special desserts for the festivities.

Thanks for sharing,
penny

Some of the counter service desserts like Sunshine Seasons were fresh and others like Cosmic Rays were pre packaged so it varied.

At Kona the feature dessert was a passionfruit mousse which was amazing!

Wow! That's a lot of food! Sounds like you ate well and saved a bundle - good for you :flower:

Pepper Market at $39 for counter service sounds like a great deal.

Thats a lot of food. Only that one side dish was billed to you?

Do you mean the side veggies at Le Cellier?

Nope. The lady at Pecos Bill's even gave DH a side of chili cheese fries even though he already had fries with his burger.

Le Cellier was our first meal of the trip so we didn't know any better but the other servers made if clear we could add shrimp etc at no extra cost. I think it's better for the server. Their cheque average is up and then there gratuity is more.

Also, with that kind of extra service/information by the server, I would think many people would add an additional tip. I probably would.

Thank you for your detailed review, DH and I had always perfered the meal plans but were not sure of the new one with its limits to counterservice or table service, before it was just meal points/coupons. Thanks for the info. :flower:

We had amazing service at Spoodles and Kona cafe so left extra $$ for a tip.

Le Cellier is now 1 TS credit.

You are the reason I scope out the dining boards daily! Thank you for taking the time to do such great reviews and cost analysis!!!

We're going in Aug. with the dining plan and eating at many of the same places you chose. I have a few questions:

1. At LeCellier, what was the cheese platter? Was this your appetizer? How was the cheese soup?

2. How did you like Boma's? I just posted about Boma's and am getting great responses. That is the only restaurant we're still "iffy" about and I'm not sure if we'll try breakfast or dinner? If you liked it, what specifically did you like?

3. You said you got the Mom's fried cheese at 50's PT. What is that? Is this similiar to cheese curds (we have those in adundance here in WI)? Also, it looks like you were able to get a milkshake and root beer float PLUS dessert. Did they count those as your drinks? My kids love the cherry 7-up drinks with the electric ice cubes. Do you know if those are an option for the drink on the dining plan?

Thanks again for your GREAT reviews!!!!!!!

My pleasure. DH and I read everyone's reviews before we left so we could decide if it was the best deal for us.

1. The cheese platter was an app, it is an assortment of cheese and crackers. I love the cheddar cheese soup, it's always a must do for us.

2. At Boma's my favourite things were the Couscous Seafood Stew, the Couscous salad and the Bourbon chicken. There is a great variety so you can try a bit of everything. That night they had a nut crusted salmon and I don't eat nuts so I asked if they had any plain and they prepared a special piece and one of the chefs brought it out to our table.

3. It was a big piece of cheese that had been battered and deep fried. It was served with toasted crackers since the centre was warm and spreadable when you sliced into it. Very tasty. Not sure about the drinks with the glowing ice cubes. But we did have milkshakes, floats and desert.

Another thing I just remembered. At a couple restaurants we got the deserts to go. There were many envious people when I was enjoying mine cheesecake during Spectro Magic.

I posted a picture of the fired cheese on the pictures sticky up above... it's post #435 http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=773269&page=29&pp=15

The milkshakes and floats are drinks, not desserts, at anyplace that offers them. The electric ice cubes are extra though, cause they aren't "food". You can get fancy non alcoholic drinks, but not the glow in the dark cubes or the suvenier cups.

Wow - this kind of detail is really helpful, thanks so much for taking the time!

I hadn't realized we could get sides as part of the plan, even at counter service places. Are there any restrictions on sides (other than, apparently, Le Cellier! :teeth: ) ?

Thanks for posting all the info. I really want to add the menu plan because I want to be able to go to the more expensive restaurants and not worry about what I order. Seeing how you used yours makes it look like a good deal.
