Okay, I know quite a bit now about the dining plan from these boards. We are using the plan in Aug. and I am just beginning to think about our plan so we can make PS (or whatever they're calling them now).

I have read that lots of people pay out of pocket for their kids meals. My youngest is 9, so she will have to order off the kid's menu. At first, I was going to just pay out of pocket for many of her meals. However, does anyone who has used the dining plan for a child know the answer to this question:

Does she actually get an appetizer and dessert if none are offered on the kid's menu? For example, if we ate at 50's Prime Time (one of our favorites), does she get to choose an appetizer (many are $6), a kid's meal entree ($5), a drink (like the glowing soda drink, which is $6) and a dessert (many are $6)?

If so, that "kid's meal" just cost $22 and we paid $10 for her food for the whole day?

Please clarify for me - those who have used it or know the answer for sure!

First - I found that we got too much food for me to worry about saving my DDs credits for myself. LOL Also, we spent $45/day for the plan and our combined food never fell to that level - we made out like bandits without even trying, especially considering that the plan covers tax and tip, which can hit about 25% of your meal cost...... WIth the right timing of meals, you may be able to get through some days with just the 2 meals and snack included on the plan.

As far as the appetizers and such, each place is a little different. Akershus already has a kid's appetizer tray, so they get that. However, when we ate at Mama Melrose's and at the Yacht Club Galley, the servers informed us that DD was entitled to an adult appetizer, her kid's meal with drink, and a kid's dessert. Many of our other TS meals were character buffets, so you'd obviously get whatever you wanted there - one breakfast buffet server actually gave us frozen lemonades as we left as our dessert, though that only happened once.

I found it worked best to tell the servers right up front that you're using the plan and would like to know what's included. (A few people have reported poor service, but I seriously doubt this can be chalked up to the plan's tip rate - they know you can always leave more and the service we got was always excellent, with one *minor* exception at a buffet)

We just got back and used the dining plan- I didn't bother to pay out of pocket for my DD (6) for any of her meals because she liked the idea of having dessert at all sit downs- so i just paid out of pocket for sci fi lunch because it was the cheapest meal and we weren't in the mood for apps and dessert that day anyway-
Buffets- she just ate off the buffet
Sit Downs- She ordered an appetizer off the adult menu if they didn't have an app on the child's menu already- and we always picked something we liked cause most of the time she didn't eat it or not all of it and as far as dessert they all had childs desserts- which at kona cafe was a huge waffle cone sundae.
I felt the plan was well worth it.
