Is it fancy food that my kids won't eat? Is it really expensive? Do we need reservations? We are considering it for lunch or dinner. Any meal recommendations?

There are some fancy dishes but they have a "normal" kids menu, it's actually not very expensive IMO (Adult meals range from about $8 - 20 IIRC), they're usually only open for lunch unless it's the busy season and you can make reservations that day sometimes.

If you're an AAA member, show your card for the discount.

AAA member OR if you own an american express card. The am. ex. card gets you a free appitizer or dessert when you pay with it.

If you're staying at a Universal property (Hard rock, Royal Pacific, Portofino) you will not need reservations. The people staying on site have priority even over those who have ressies...which seems odd to me, but that's how they do it (I was told by the hostess there).

They have food for everyone- my kids are not picky eaters, but I was happy to see 'normal kid food' on the menu, because that's what they wanted that meal. There are burgers, pizza, grilled cheese, fries, chicken strips...AND the kids portions are decent sized, so if you have two younger kids order one meal for both of them. I saw two or three tables next to us order each of their kids a kids meal, the kids ate 1/2 or less and the rest was wasted. That drives me absolutely mad. So much food gets wasted, then, the people complain about how much they spend!

Mythos was a great experiance for my family- it would have been better if we sat in the main seating area- you may want to request that when you arrive or make your ressie. They sat us in one of the 'outer' rooms and it was still neat, but not the full experiance.

My kids love it - but they do eat burgers and pizza and don't mind them a little on the fancy side.

But my strongest recommendation involves dessert - if your guys like rice krispie treats, definitely order the Dessert Sushi. It's amazing - wonderful rice krispie treats with some jelly and fruit roll ups. Adorable and delicious!

Oh yes, those are very good

So, me nit knowing much about universal... what is mythos? What's the experience. And where can you call to make reservations if you want to go there?

So do you just show the hostess your room key? And they seat you next?

Cool! Thanks for the info. because I had no idea about this. I'll have to remember to pay with my Amex.

Also, I have already made my July ressie for Mythos for 10 ppl. but I'm not sure everyone will want to eat here or not. I made them just in case, but my husband & kids are having lunch definitely. We're also staying on-site. Do you think I should keep the ressie in case the entire group wants to lunch & if they don't, we just show our room key to get priority seating? I'm going to try to get the rest of our group to firm up their lunch plans because I don't want to keep such a large group ressie and we don't use it. Wouldn't it be a lot to ask of them to just show up with 10 people & flash our room keys?

Here is a posted menu.:woohoo:

Back in 2005, we went on an adults-only foodie binge and dined all over Universal (Mythos, Emerils) and several Disney resorts (Wolfgang Puck, Jinko, Victoria and Albert's). Mythos was the only fine dining experience we repeated, it was that good. The executive chef came out and chatted with us. I have no idea if he's still in charge, but he was a great guy.

Looking at the menu, there's enough choice for my toddler.

However, I will say that we met another family in the parks that was very disappointed because, "our kids wouldn't eat any of that fancy foreign stuff!" The kids were 8 and 11(?). I would like to say that they were a typical family, but their thick southern accent and visible lack of dental care, combined with their opinion of Mythos dining, fit a very unfortunate stereotype.

Mythos is wonderful! It's lovely, a refreshing break from park touring, and the food and servers are fabulous! I highly recommend it!

I didn't care for my food at Mythos.

I had the Pistacchio encrusted pork chop with the macaroni and cheese.
The pork was fatty, and of poor quality.
My mac and cheese was dried out and cold and hot. WEIRD!! ..almost like it was reheated in the microwave...and not stirred to distribute the heat.I would like to think that was not the norm since I have heard that usually this entree is good. I would have sent it back but our server was running his rear off and it was a long time before he got back to us..I just ate what I could and sucked it up...I decided before this trip it was going to bit%$ free..no worries mate in other words..just go with the flow....

My family had ( I think ) the pannins..they were very good.

The servers were overwhelmed..I think they were seating to fast, and to many people in certain sections..and they couldn't keep up..

I did like the drink refills ( when they finally came ) , the nice cold air, the bread..and the prices on everything ( but mine ) were worth it. I would eat there again with a more realistic view..and no porkchop for me.

We are going during HP opening madness (20-25th) should I definatly call for reservations? We want to eat there for sure...(also thanks for the AmEx tip..we will take it with us...any other AmEx discounts throughout Universal??

We ate there in late may. My DS had a hamburger and did not like the different texture from normal hamburgers. I tried it and did not care for it either. I had the pork and ate every crumb. Bread and butter was great too.
