What do you guys prefer? I was initially thinking about Finnegan’s. From what I remember in 2016, we actually liked it better than Mythos. I seem to see many people here posting Mythos is a must do though. Or is there another restaurant we should try? We are going in July and have Toothsome, Lombards, the new restaurant in our plans. :)

I'd kick Lombards, it's like bad Red Lobster if you can imagine such a thing, and keep Finnegan's and Mythos. Both are excellent. If it's not blistering hot, the outside seating overlooking the water at Mythos is lovely!

When were you last there?

We went to Lombards a few times over our last four or five visits and it’s been lovely.......food and service top notch as you would expect. Beautiful restaurant too.

However, Finnegan food was a greasy mess.......poor service and not somewhere we’ll rush back to. Yes, some folks enjoy it, but as someone who goes regularly it seems to be getting more bad reports than good.

Mythos we haven’t been to for two years as we have had two bad experiences one after the other........so we’ll give that a miss for a while. OP it certainly isn’t a must do for us any longer.......

OP.......Consider Confisco Grille for table service in IOA........much better than Mythos and has just as good a menu......service is wonderful too.....

CS Thunder Falls Terrace is excellent.......consistently good food and nice place to sit in the cool for a little bit......

Studios apart from Lombards consider Louie’s for pizza......cheap and cheerful but oh so good. The new Today show Cafe looks like it has a few decent options.......

Citywalk has many nice options.......Margaritaville has good and inexpensive bar food.......and excellent margaritas.....Cowfish is also fantastic......

NBC and Bread Box are lovely..........haven’t tried VIVO but gets good reviews........Toothsome we don’t like, but many folks love it........

Also consider taking a boat ride to the resort restaurants if you have time..........Jake’s at RP for lunch and Sals at PB for pizza is excellent.......

We plan the new restaurant as soon as we can, doubt it’ll be open for our May trip but will be for September.......it sounds amazing........

You have so many lovely places to choose from........

It's been a while, maybe 2017, and it seemed like gross Red Lobster and always has. I keep wanting to like it, and we're a seafood loving family, but yuck. Even the kids don't like Red Lobster.

Now I'm worried about Finnegans! I think we may have different tastes though overall, as a lot of places you enjoy we'd never go to, and we love Bice for instance and ya'll don't. You know what? That's the beauty of US/WDW, something for everyone. I am sad to hear about Finnegans. The kids will love it, especially if we can sit at the bar! The kids think they are so big when they get Shirley Temples or Roy Rogers. We had one place that wouldn't let the kids sit at the bar, which was weird.

BTW, I know you love the Palm, and we go almost every year for Christmas Eve with the family. I agree with you on that one; it's great, but we've never been to the one in Orlando since we have one down the road.

Thanks!! I forgot I do have Cowfish in my plans too. Hmm, I liked the Confisco’s menu, might consider that. I thought about Margaritaville but DH said he didn’t really like the menu. Thanks for your suggestions!

Edit: oohh maybe I’ll look at Jake’s since we’re staying at RPR

I’ve never been to Lombards but might take a second to think about that again. Haha I guess you’re right, there is something for everyone. I’m going to have another look at the menus for the restaurants in park. A lot of my choices are at citywalk!

Mythos for us was ok, food was ok but service was horrendously slow. Server lost money as tip would have been bigger with a bigger bill if he'd bother to come by and offer more drinks (lunch and not super busy). DD and I enjoyed Finnegans last September - was a good place to hang out and eat while park converted to HHN. Lombards last fall was really good too-like it much better than Red lobster. Confisco is a hidden gem.
Our favorite though has to be NBC Grille-it is the one place we go to every trip. Enjoyed Toothsome but not enough for a repeat yet. Cowfish was probably our least favorite-burgers alright but yeck for sushi (from my sushi loving son who's turned into a bit of a snob there..)

While we enjoy the Harry Potter restaurants, we have a food truck here called London Calling that is really good British food (from his families recipes), and the food at the restaurants is OK it isn't as good as what we get at home. However they are worth the atmosphere alone!

Interesting thread...my two cents as a fairly frequent visitor - but nowhere near schumigirl's level lol:

Agree with Monykalyn on Finnegans - pleasant enough in Oct when we dined there during stay and scream for HHN. Food wasn't anything special, but nothing bad - just basic burgers and sandwiches. Service was friendly and efficient. Wonder if they've had a change in kitchen staff and/or management that's gone downhill?

Everyone seems to love Cowfish - I was a little underwhelmed. Not bad, but I guess I was just expecting something more. It was a one and done for us with all the other places.

LOVE Thunder Falls - to me, that's the hidden quick-service gem of UO. Really good quality food at very reasonable prices. Indoor, plus nice outside tables.

Love a glass of Chianti and pizza at Louies - it feels like real new york style, which is hard to find. And especially love the NY theming and Sinatra and Dean Martin tunes :lovestruc- I'm a rat pack fan and an old soul at heart. :D

Never tried Confisco's, Mythos or Lombardos...I think Confiscos will be my priority on that list, given all the good reviews.

Margaritaville. Just two words: Margarita flight. Ok 3 - nachos. So good.

We really liked the mexican place at CitiWalk as well...can't remember the name - has the classic car out front.

We enjoy Finnegans, just ate there in January and it was really good. I get the Irish Stew and it is tasty. I have eaten at Mythos once back in 2015 and it was good but the menu is a little too "fancy" for my boys LOL We also love Vivo.

You know it’s a strange thing......we’ve never had a bad meal at the Red Lobster we go to, and it’s certainly never been gross.......I know some do look down their nose at it, I’ve said it many times.......but for cheap and cheerful seafood that has always tasted good it’s fine......it’s not Oceannaire for sure, but as I said......never had a bad meal in 12 years.

Yes, there is something for everyone......but personal opinion aside I’d never tell anyone not to go anywhere.....we all have different experiences everywhere.......Bice we found to be mass produced plastic tasting sauce that couldn’t accommodate an allergy.......tells me it’s not freshly made.

I like places that don’t let kids sit at the bar......in the UK you have to be 18 to sit there.......I find it weird to see kids at a bar......again, just different.......

Jake’s is excellent......and since you’re staying at RPR it’s so handy.......

Again, never had a bad meal there......staff are so friendly and it has a lovely atmosphere......I’m sure you’d like it......

Yes, Margaritaville has a pretty bog standard menu........it used to be better years ago, then when Universal took it over they skimmed it down.........we like the bar setting in there more than the food......good cocktails though :thumbsup2

Yep, that was us with Toothsome......not ready for a repeat visit yet........yes, NBC is excellent......love their burgers!

And agree with your son.....sushi is so much better elsewhere....love the sound of the food truck near you......:thumbsup2

We love the bread at Mythos and have enjoyed the food our last two visits. We've never eaten at Finnegan's so I can't comment. We really like Cowfish, we did not like Toothsome. Seriously the worst Fettuccine Alfredo I've ever had!

Lol.....it is hard to not fill up on bread there.......

We’ll give Mythos a try again at some point I’m sure........such a beautiful building........and their Pad Thai was always good.......well, the last one wasn’t......but a nice place to sit for an hour or so.......

My family laugh at me as I had to go outside for a warm up as I was actually shivering in there one day.....said I was living up to my lizard reputation as I absorbed some heat.......:rotfl:

@schumigirl - I've always thought Mythos was cold. I'm now on medication which makes me feel cold for a bit after I take it and no one listens when I say I'm freezing. Glad there is another soul thinking that it's cold in there (which is SO nice for a bit, but then...burr!).

@Candycane83 - we're really hoping Cowfish is awesome. Sushi and burgers on one plate will slay the kids, and we're looking forward to it too. Burgers and sushi should go together dog dambit!

Chefs change, menus change at times

I always check current menus to make sure it is what I really want to eat

I don’t go in blindly and just settle for a basic sandwich or appetizer for a meal

I zero in for a meal and not just a typical sandwich

I have had plenty of fine meals that turned out to be awesome

Only a few of the eateries I avoid
regularly

If I have gone to a sit down place and menu changed after I got original info, I just get something light and and eat later a full meal

Never an issue for me to just get a salad at one place and hour later try another eaterie

The only place I like having a burger is HRC

Became tired of the margaritaville burgers
Guess too many times there?

There are a few places I have avoided last two years

And probably will never return to

Richters and one other burger place menus have not changed n years

Food kept under heat lamps in advance I avoid

I prefer freshly made foods when planning a full meal

Monsters cafe was decent for their pizza years back but menu updates have not happened

No interest in going to a place where variety has not been updated in years

Find hotel eateries and city walk more appealing to me when I want a full lingering meal

I do have a long stay at UO and part of my solo trips are geared to menu choices that can not be found elsewhere

I’m sure I can always find a place that will suit the appetite I have when deciding which place would be the next meal

I’m there on vacation for a couple of weeks

Food is as important as park rides are for me

Check out current menus the week before you go
You can call the restaurant in advance in case foods you like are being replaced and new menus could be taking their place

If I can’t find what I want while I’m the park, I fall back to Louie’s for their fresh made pizza and Caesar sald
or get the meatball sandwich there
Both meals work for me

Food court

The manwich sandwich is always good but messy
Plain but tasty park food in a short time period can work for me

Thanks for all the comments and tips everyone!! I think we’ll go with menus we think is good for now and try some things you guys suggested. Right now I’ll probably go with Confiscos since we have not tried it yet and Jake’s, which looks like it’ll be convenient for us. I’m a little sad there’s no restaurant that took over for Emiril’s at RPR... seems like a lot of new places to try at citywalk though. :)

@schumigirl and @amberpi im a lizard too and like ordering hot tea at any time of the year! Lol! I hope restaurants aren’t too cold inside during the summer!

Some good choices in there Candycane........

Confisco gets overlooked a lot, and then when they do eat there, they love it! So many good dishes......and Jake’s is one of our all time favourite places......although we have a lot of favourites I have to say at Universal!!!!!

Tchoup Chop is being utilised as an area for the Minion breakfast and they do certain smaller events in there too. Yes, would be nice if they put in a brand new restaurant......I’d love to see a full upscale seafood restaurant......but not holding my breath.......

And yes, I hate being cold!! I do find some restaurants are freezing when it’s boiling hot and Mythos is the worst I’ve ever experienced........of course they found it hilarious I was shivering........lol.......

I like places that don’t let kids sit at the bar.
No offense intended to anyone with kids :tiptoe::duck:, but ::yes::::yes::::yes::::yes::::yes::
I graciously play 2nd fiddle throughout the park to families with kids - and will gladly give up parade spots so they can get better views, etc. I get that it's kid-focused and that's fine. But those 1/2 dozen bar stools feel like the one spot to get away from screaming little ones having meltdowns. Bar = adult beverages and fun to me. :woohoo:Not little kids.

I love Key West for that reason - no one under 18 is permitted in most of the bars there.

It's tough on the bartenders tips too - I've seen parents with 3-4 little ones take up multiple barstools, just needing a break from the heat. They order water for their kids and just hang out. Meanwhile customers wanting to order shots and rounds can't get near the bar and bartenders are afraid to say anything for fear of angering the parents.
