I do not do tanning booths. No judgements, I just refuse to do them. I usually use the Jergans Natural Glow or Hawaiian Tropic Island Radiance Self Tanners. They're OK, but I'd like to have something guaranteed not to streak or fade and that won't fade off patchy. I once went to a tanning salon and had a lady spray me a tan on. It looked fantastic, but in the Florida heat faded onto all my clothes all week:headache:. I was reading on the Cruise Critic board and saw someone mention the Mystic Tans. Has anyone done them? How long do they last? Do they fade onto your clothes? Any tips on getting a good streak free one? Do they last in salt water? Do they fade patchy? Anything better? What about the Fake Bake product? I'm going on a cruise in January and would really like to have some of this fat of mine tanned for the whole week. Tanned fat looks better than white fat, right?:rotfl:

I'd be interested in hearing about this too as I am WAY too afraid of skin cancer to go actual tanning.

My opinion.
I got a mystic tan 2 days before our vacation.
The assistant told me it was to last for two weeks.
36 hours after you get the spray on you can get it wet.
I went into the pool the day we got to our resort and afterwards, it started cracking. I looked like a lizard!

I sent you a pm.

I have read over and over that the key to a "fake" tan sticking is that you have to exfoliate first. Also, from my research, I have read they do have products that help the tan last longer. Still, I am also leary of spending that much money and then having something go horribly wrong with it while on vacation.

I did pick up some L'oreal Sublime Bronze airbrush mist spray to use at home. You have to "layer" it by spraying it on a few times (I did it over two days after showering) and it worked pretty good. The smell wasn't too obnoxious and the color was good. It was about $9-10 at Target. They had some other brands as well. You might try some of those out at home before spending $$ on the Mystic Tan. Just a thought.

hth!

you absolutely must be exfoliated and moisturized beforehand.
I think the best results are in the first two days...but for me at least it usually lasts around a week.
You can't get wet/shower for about 24 hours afterwards (probably longer if possible, as the color will keep developing over time).
I HAVE gotten streaks with this method (only once) because I must not have patted myself dry in that arrea (back of my knee/calf).
Overall, I've been pretty satisfied with the results...much better than laying in a tanning bed or using tanning creams or lotions.
The stall where I've done it is kind of freaky. I'm a tad claustrophobic, and with all the "mist" spraying everywhere you're not supposed to take any big breaths in (which is my first instinct when I'm in there), it can be a tad frightening, but again, definitely worth it.

Uh Oh! This is not what I wanted to be true! Thanks for letting me know.

I sent you a pm.

You don't have a problem with it cracking flaking off unevenly? I'm not usually claustrophobic, so don't think the booth would be a problem. What is the difference between the tans someone sprays on you and the Mystic Tan, as far as fading goes? The tan the lady sprayed on looked great, it just kept fading over the week onto all my clothes due to the Florida heat. I didn't go swimming with it though, so don't know how the salt water might have effected it.

I've done this at least 5 times before vacations. I am a very pale redhead and while I can do the self-tanning stuff on my legs most of the time, this is the only way I can have any kind of all-over color. It starts wearing off (fading) before a week is up. I stick with the Classic Tan shops. The only problem I ever had is when I went to another salon and they claimed their spray on was exactly the same as Mystic Tan. It wasn't and I had an orangey glow and streaky legs.

Here are some pointers:

1. you MUST exfoliate first
2. do not put on any moisturizers,make-up or deodorant
3. use the barrier cream provided and slather it really good on your hands and fingers, especially between your fingers
4. same with your toes
5. hold your hands palm together above your head, otherwise your hands get way darker than the rest of you
6. when you get out GENTLY pat off the excess moisture, rubbing makes it streak
7. when the spray comes on you do have a sudden urge to gulp, but that is only when the spray first hits you.
8. do not get wet for at least 12 hours

Why not try in now? Granted you wont get to see it in heat and salt, but at least you will get a rough idea and if you look awful, you are at home (presumably wearing long sleeves and pants) so no one will notice.

Nope, I've never had a problem with it cracking off or flaking.
I've never got a sprayed on tan by a person, so I don't know how they would compare...although my mom did get a tan sprayed on and hers flaked off. I think the only time I had the spray from the tan get on my clothes was the day I got the tan, getting it onto the clothes I was wearing.
And I think I did actually get some onto a white lining of a bridesmaids dress I wore...it was the day after I got the tan, and I was hot and sweaty from all the dancing and stuff.
But I got one before my last Disney vacation (november-so it wasn't VERY hot) and it didn't rub off onto my clothes at all. HTH! :)
