Mystery shopper with Roper question

I signed up with Roper and recieved two jobs in the area. But one has a fee of 0.00 but they will reimberse you $6.00 for a lunch ordered at a fast food establishment. The other is $12.00 (but the expense to ship, box and purchase an item would seem to be about $12.00).

What is the fee you get paid? Is it the number in the "fee" area of the job and location?

I was a mystery shopper for years...first cardinal rule: Never pay a fee to anyone to get a shop!!

Yes I've heard that but, I've read very good things about this company.
Where is the amount they pay you listed? I can't figure out if the fee they have listed is the actual amount of pay they give you.

I have never worked for, (or even heard of for that matter) this company you are talking about.
However, I have been a mystery shopper for several years and have worked for many diff companies.
Although I cannot be certain, it sounds like this is one of those deals where you are reimbursed for out of pocket expenses to do the job, but you dont actually get "paid" for doing it.
Personally, I refuse to do any jobs like that!
I dont do it to get "free" food from a restaurant, fast food, movie rentals etc... so there must be a shoppers fee included as well as reimbursement!
In my experience, the shopper fee is listed in plain site, so that you know exactly what the terms are!

Yeah, it's usually not worth your time and effort if it's only a reimbursement for a meal you wouldn't have purchased anyway and a restaurant you didn't choose.

I will only do shops where there is payment above and beyond the services purchased.

I got a shop offer for a Bennigans last night--they were willing to reimburse $25 NOT including tip for 2 adults and 1 kid to eat dinner. Yeah right! Sign me up to pay for the privilege or mystery shopping!!

Thanks for your responses, definately not worth it for me to do for food because I really don't like fast food, and trying to make a little money, just getting a free meal is not worth it. Thanks.

You obviously didn't read the instructions carefully enough. They are there and clearly spelled out. The "shipping" shop fee is $12.00, out of this comes the cost of the item to ship, cost me .74, and the box, which is about .99 depending on where you go. Unless you have a box in your house. The balance is yours. They will REIMBURSE YOU the cost of shipping. At least you will get the fee and the reimbursement if you do the shop CORRECTLY. It isn't difficult. I have done many for this company, it is a wonderful and fast paying company. Their instructions are some of the best in the business.

Guess you are getting the wrong shops. I went out to a very HIGH end steak house and was reimbursed up to $130.00 for dinner for two. This included two appetizers or salad/two entrees/two side dishes/one dessert and beverages. Plus valet parking was paid for, and there was a fee for the report. Would do it again in a heartbeat. I enjoy being paid to go out to eat. Am doing it again tonite, but for a different restaurant.

Thanks to all your help...I am mystery shopping 2 fast food places next week. I signed up with cybershopping.com. Are there any other very reputable companies I should look into? I did check out the violiton(sp?) website, but I had thought it might be better to ask those who would know the better companies...you all!

Thanks for any additional info you can give me.

Also, does it help to say yes more in the beginning...will they start to offer you higher end shops?

Everything you need to know you can learn there. That is where any mystery shopper has gotten all their info. It isn't just free things, or fees for shopping. You need to be organized, be able to read and follow instructions to the LETTER. And you need to be able to write clear, consise and detailed reports of your objective observations. It is work, and some people don't feel it is worth their time and effort. You need to spend alot of time applying to shopping companies, and searching their job boards. Happy Shopping!! I guess I haven't been lucky enough to find companies that do high end dining shops! Some of the middle of the road ones are good, but some are not worth it. Fast food wouldn't be good for us, and one of the ones, a family restaurant with ice cream, was too fattening. I had to stop after a while because we got tired of the food there.
