Mystery Machine

Okay this may be lame, but we had no plans of going to Universal Studios on our trip this fall. We are going to WDW for DS's 4th birthday and he and DD ADORE scooby doo and the gang. I am sure I read somewhere about meeting them and seeing the Mystery Machine in Universal Studios. I had read about a character dinner with Scooby and when I called to find out about it they must have thought I was on glue! They couldn't believe I was trying to make a dinner reservation with Scooby for October. We have never been to Universal before but I really want to go mainly for Scooby and possibly the Mystery Machine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The characters definitely have a meet and greet and travel around in the Mystery Machine but I don't think they do a character dinner. They may appear at one of the hotels at their dinner. Someone here will know.

I think they sell stuffed Scooby and there may be other small merchandise.

I am fairly certain that the Nick store at least has Scoob merchandise in it.Ill try and look this week if I go. I also have seen the Mystery Machine with Scooby and Shaggy on occasion in US.Its usually out for the meet and greet on the streets somewhere.Ill try and remember to see if theres a schedule for it to be out.

I read a review of the horror makeup show - it sounded pretty cool. Thanks for the recent Mystery Machine sighting. I will definitely have to plan a Universal Studios day for this trip!

Thanks, I thought I had heard about one! I am guessing though from the reaction I got on the phone when I called that they don't do 180 day adr's? When you do character dining at the Universal Studios resorts do you have to be guest at the resort? Does anyone know how far in advance the Universal Resorts take reservations?

It isn't like Disney. You can make reservations the morning of, for the hotel restaurants. I assume it is The Islands Dining Room where they appear. You don't need to be a guest to eat there. The Islands has a neat little kids' buffet that your guys will enjoy as well as really good entrees for adults.

What I suggest doing is going to www.loewshotels.com and go to the Royal Pacific Hotels page. Click where it says contact us, and email them your questions about when and if Scooby appears.

30 days and even then you can still make reservations the morning off when you check in at the kiosk. I know right now Island's is having Scobby and Gang but last year it was the Simpsons so I don't know how often they change up the characters. Each of the Main Resturants at the 3 onsite hotels does the character dining once or twice a week. You will just need to call up less than 30 days out to find out where and who might be there

Last year Scooby and Shaggy were a monday night, Shrek and Fiona were a different night as was Bart Simpson.

You can see them in either Jake`s Bar or in the Islands both in RPR. And no you don`t need to be a guest of the hotel to eat there.

We have never needed to book either of these and they are both wonderful places to eat and never seem too busy.

The character interaction with Shaggy and Scooby was wonderful by the way, your little one will adore it as they spent a good deal of time with everyone

Stopped at Universal today.The only Scooby merchandise I could find were plush toys of varying sizes in the Universal store as soon as you walk into the park on the left, and also in the store next to the pizza place near the character zone.Thats not to say it doesnt exist.

I also ran into of all people Scooby and Shaggy doing photos ops near the character zone, along with some of the other characters. I talked to one of the escorts, and what I was told was that the Mystery Machine makes apearances throughout the day. I want to say that for sure it would be out at 430 weather permitting.They should be in front of the Darkroom on Hollywood at that time. He also said that they make 12 apearances in the park.6 in front of the darkroom at 1030,1130,1230 230 330 and 430 and on the hour in the character zone.(this was at 400)That lasted long enough for me to walk away. Got to the Garden of Allah rest at 405 and there were the exact same characters at the same time out infront of the darkroom. Yes I stopped at GS and let them know about the scheduling.

Scooby popped into The Kitchen restaurant at the Hard Rock Hotel on a Wednesday night. It was June 2nd.
The place was quiet so Scooby was playing with all the kids. Chasing them around, playing peek a boo, doing some dancing.

We also saw Scooby, Shaggie and the Mystery Machine at Universal Studios over near the Horror Make Up Show. It was pouring down rain so they didn't get out of the car, they were just driving around slowly.

DD10 and I shouted "Scooby Doo, We love you!" and Scooby popped his head out of the top of the Mystery Machine with his head covered by a green tarp and waved at us. LOL

Of course, I hadn't planned on seeing them at that moment and had my camera put away.

I was going to add for ADR's, I'd call a week before you want to get the ADR and book it. With all the WWoHP stuff, restaurants might be starting to get busy now.
