Mystery at Sea

My (geography major) son, told me that the 26_____ thing ends up in the Grand Bahamas. Now he asked me how far Castaway was from the Grand Bahamas?

So could the repo cruise go from Orlando, to NY, to London, to France, then Italy? (or vice-versa)?

so the queen can get her pizza ..

Post Canaveral - Castaway Cay - New York - Southhampton - Le Havre - .... - Spain ??? -- Italy ( Siena or Rome ) ..

Twelve more days to wait and find out! I can't wait! I wanna know! :woohoo:

Middle Eastern, "Turkish" or "Greek" brewing involves boiling in water coffee that was ground into a very fine dust. Traditionally the coffee is often brewed (boiled) with large amounts of sugar, but it may be brewed without the sugar. Middle Easterners seem to like to add spice to their coffee, and their spice of choice is often cardamom. The coffee is not filtered from the liquor and one is left with a pungent, thick, and muddy brew. In the western world this method is more of an occasional indulgence as opposed to an everyday brew.

Possibly a port somewhere with Arabic history – Gibraltar? Morocco? I think Greece may be to far but anythings possible.

It would be great if the dates were announced a few days before going on sail. It will give us time to decide if we really want to do this. ( I really do, but I am seeing rates so much cheaper for other cruise lines like Costa.)
I am barely able to afford the oceanview room, but on another ship we could do Verandah for cheaper.
By the way, how is the kid's program on Costa? Is there even one? :confused3

I have never cruised on Costa but in the April Cruise Travel magazine that I just received it has an article comparing cruise lines and there teen facilities. It doesn't look like they have much in the way of dedicated teen facilities but the article notes that they have large discounts for teens and children on some of their cruises.

The cover story for the April issue is the Disney Wonder and the author gives it a great review.

MAGIC AWAITS. THE QUEEN JUST LOVES THE PIZZA.
Doesn't Spain have a Queen Sofia, (indicating the rumors of home porting in Barcelona) and maybe she loves the pizza in Italy :teeth: . Just guessing here....just love those DCL mysteries!

You know, in the back of my head, I have this picture of the people at DCL laying on the floor of their offices laughing at how hard every little tidbit of that web page is being analyzed. :rotfl2:

It will be interesting to see in 12 days if it really had anything to do with anything.

Sorry, late entry to all of this... but here is my first submission on this topic, more to follow...

Those are St. Michael Medals, not coins, and I found this...

"The feast of the Apparition of Saint Michael commemorates the 6th century appearance of the archangel on Mount Gargano near Manfredonia in southern Italy. Michael requested a church built in his honor at the site. If you find medals or holy cards with 'relics' of Michael, they are probably rock chips from the cave, or pieces of cloth that have touched it. "

So... Southern Italy?

More to follow... :-)

A search on Wikipedia yielded the following:

"The International Herald Tribune (or IHT) is an English-language newspaper fully owned by The New York Times Company, which — along with its own staff journalists and news agencies — supplies it with news and features.

History
"The Herald" was founded on October 4, 1887 by New York Herald owner James Gordon Bennett, Jr.. The company is based in Neuilly-sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris.

In 1928, The Herald became the first newspaper distributed by airplane, flying copies to London from Paris in time for breakfast.

Publishing of the IHT was interrupted between 1940-1944, during the occupation of Paris by Nazi Germany.

In 1959, John Hay Whitney, a businessman and U.S. Ambassador to the U.K., bought the paper and its European edition. In 1966, the New York paper closed, but the Whitney family kept the Paris paper going through partnerships. In December 1966, The Washington Post became a joint owner.

The New York Times became a joint owner of the Herald in May 1967 and the newspaper became known as the International Herald Tribune.

In 1974 the IHT began transmitting facsimile pages of the paper between nations and opened a printing site near London, England. In 1977, the paper opened a second site in Zurich.

The IHT began to send electronic images of newspaper pages from Paris to Hong Kong via satellite in 1980, making the paper simultaneously available on opposite sides of the planet.

In 1991, The Washington Post and The New York Times became sole and equal shareholders of the newspaper.

It is now completely owned by The New York Times Company after The Times purchased the 50% stake owned by the Washington Post Company on December 30, 2002. The takeover ended a 35-year partnership between The Times and its domestic competitor, The Washington Post."

This ties together the New York - London - Paris connection.

The Order or St. Michael in British order of chivalry (taken from Wikipedia)The Order was originally founded to commemorate the British protectorate over the Ionian Islands, which had come under British control in 1814 and had been granted its own constitution in 1817. It was intended to reward "natives of the Ionian Islands and of the island of Malta and its dependencies, and for such other subjects of his majesty as may hold high and confidential situations in the Mediterranean."

In 1864, however, the protectorate ended and the Ionian Islands became a part of Greece.

GREECE!!!!! :cool1:

Order of Saint Michael
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Order of Saint Michael (French: L'Ordre de Saint-Michel) was the first French chivalric order, founded by Louis XI of France in 1469, in competitive response to the Burgundian Order of the Golden Fleece founded by Philip the Good, duke of Burgundy, Louis' chief competitor for the allegiance of the great houses of France, the Dukes of Orléans, Berry, and Brittany. As a chivalric order, its goal was to confirm the loyalty of its knights to the king. Originally, there were a limited number of knights, at first thirty-one, then increased to thirty-six including the king. An office of Provost was established in 1476. The Order of St Michael was the highest Order in France until it was superceeded by the Order of the Holy Spirit.

As would be expected, the first knights were among the most powerful nobles in France, close relatives of the king and a few from other royal houses in Europe. Its membership was strictly under the king's control, but under Louis' successors the Order was less selective: in 1565, during the Wars of Religion, when loyalties were strained and essential, the formal number was increased to fifty but there may have been as many as seven hundred knights under Henry III in 1574 (Sainty).

The Order of St. Michael dedicated to the Archangel Michael conveyed to every member a gold badge of the image of the saint standing on a rock (Mont Saint Michel) in combat with the serpent. It was suspended from an elaborate gold collar made of cockleshells (the badge of pilgrim, especially those to Santiago de Compostela) linked with double knots. The statutes state that the badge could be hung on a simple chain, and later it was suspended from a black ribbon.

When the Order of St Michael was founded, the famous illuminator Jean Fouquet was commissioned to paint the title miniature of the Statutes, showing the king presiding over the knights (Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, fr. 19819). The original plan was for the knights to meet yearly at Mont Saint Michel in Normandy, but such an isolated location was impractical and the Order met in a chapel consecrated to its use in the royal palace, Paris.
The Order of St. Michael was abolished in 1830.

Here is the Morse Code that is on the scroll:

MAGIC AND WONDER AWAITS stop WE SAIL TOMORROW FOR UNCHARTED WATERS

...Nothing about the Mediterranean. But this sure is fun!!!

I believe the second set of coordinates is New York. When you zoom in (use your right mouse button and then select "zoom in") the "1" appears to be a "/". When you take the "1" out, it places the location in NYC. Anyone else see the same thing?
