Looking for any suggestions or advice on a couple of days in Myrtle Beach, SC... it ain't Disney but hopefully it can be fun!

My parents are moving down there! Well, near there, Pawleys Island, SC. I've been there 5 or 6 times in the past 10 years. There really are a ton of things to do for just about any occaision, especially with shopping and eating out.

What time of year are you going there? Now?

we are looking to go in August (right before school goes back in), I've heard of the Hard Rock Amusement Park but their website isn't updated for 2009 yet and looking at Long Bay Resort but up for any suggestions!

We went last year for the first time and had a ball! We stayed in North Myrtle beach--very family-friendly. We loved the beach and had a great, relaxing trip. We took my kids to Ripley's Aquarium and Alligator Adventure on different days throughout the week--they loved both!! We also ate at The Original Benjamin's one night--HUGE seafood buffet with terrific food. (We got a $25 gift certificate from restaurant.com for $5!!)

The Hard Rock Amusement Park is closed and the company has filed for bankruptcy.

We are going down there in June- I am pretty sure we are booking the ocean reef hotel. I think that we are going to the ripleys place and I think the people we are meeting there said there is a water park someplace around there.

Hard Rock has filed for bankruptcy, but last week they had a buyer who will probably be reopening the park before summer. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

One of my favorite places is Barefoot Landing. We stayed at the Premier resorts at Barefoot Landing last summer for a week. They were beautiful!

There's Alligator Adventure in Barefoot Landing.

Broadway at the Beach has Hard Rock Cafe, Ripley's Aquarium. Across from Ripley's is the waterpark. And a few miles up the road on HWY 501 is where Hard Rock Park is/hopefully to be reopened.

Hard Rock Park is either closing or being closed as said by a previous poster. I'm not sure if you'd want to visit there anyway because the entrance fees are about 50-60 bucks per person and the park really isn't all that large. They used to have half price coupons in the hotel lobbies that you could use, and that probably was more or less the price they should have been charging. You'd find more entertainment by just renting a jetski for a half hour to an hour (about 100 bucks on the intracoastal waterway, don't waste your time on the ocean), or banana boats, or just going out to broadway at the beach/barefoot landing.

If you have any specific activities you like, just send me a p.m. I'd be happy to answer your questions!

Anyone know anything about the Monterey Bay Suites in Myrtle Beach? We're planning on going in June this year for two-three days and it looked like a good fit for our family of 5. Also, what is MagicQuest? It looks very fun with the magic wands and things. Thanks for the info! :thumbsup2

Hard Rock Park was a waste of money anyway. When we went last summer there were no lines :cool1: ... because there were maybe 200 people in the entire park :confused3

Barefoot Landing and Broadway by the Beach are both enjoyable, mostly shopping but there isn't much in Myrtle Beach other than the beach, shopping and golf... oh and food.

My inlaws have a condo there so we go once or twice a year, its enjoyable. I can't say I would go there more than once every 10 years or so if we actually had to pay to stay there but it can be a good time.

Dunes Village Resort is our fav. Washer/dryer in the room.
Long Bay is our second favorite

between Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing your shopping/eating needs are met. Dont go to Tangier in the summer tho, all concrete and HOT!

River City Diner is very good too.

Magiquest is really a lot of fun! It is similar to doing a scavenger hunt, but with magic wands. You use your wand to complete missions, where you look for a certain set of items (symbols) in the arena. Once you find the items (they register by pointing your wand at the symbols), you return to a central area to complete the mission and start a new one.

This was such a hit with my kids (who were 8 and 11 at the time) that we let them do it a second time. We are returning to MB this year and they want to go to Magiquest again. It is at the top of their list, aside from the beach.

Our family went to Myrtle Beach in the summer of 2007 and had a wonderful time! We stayed in North Myrtle Beach and loved it. In fact, we are planning to go back to North Myrtle in summer, 2010.

We stayed at the Baywatch Resort and had a great experience. Their pools and lazy rivers were amazing...and the beaches were terrific. We booked our room through Expedia.com and I felt like it was well worth the price.

Here are some suggestions:

Things to do - we had a lot of fun at the water parks. Our favorite was Wild Water and Wheels. They have a ton of slides, mini-golf, and go-karts. It was probably our favorite thing we did. There are two other water parks as well, but we only got to go to one. The waterpark that is near Broadway at the Beach looked like a lot of fun also. We were going to go there on our last full day, but it rained. The other water park is at Family Kingdom.

As for amusement parks, we actually had a really good time at Family Kingdom. It is an "old school" type of amusement park.....reminds me of when my parents would take me to amusement parks as a kid! The coaster is really good, and we all had a great time there. I was really hoping to go to Hard Rock Park this past summer, but we never had a chance to make it over to Myrtle Beach. Anyway, my guess is that the property will be snatched up at a bargain by a large company and the park will eventually reopen.

Restaurants - Our favorite was Bonefish Grill in North Myrtle Beach. Their crab cakes were terrific and the seared ahi tuna was incredible! Another great meal was T-Bonz. It is a fun atmosphere and they have some great draft beers. I would also recommend Jimmy Buffett's Cheeseburger in Paradise. We went there for lunch one day, and it was terrific - just what you would expect - a huge awesome cheeseburger, a couple of guys playing acoustic cover tunes, specialty drinks, etc. There is also a place called Duffy's that had an incredible shrimp and grits. Finally, there are two German restaurants at Myrtle Beach also.

Myrtle Beach has one of those local access TV stations with lots of advertisers. Check out their link: http://www.tv33mb.com/
You can get some great ideas for restaurants by watching ads on TV 33!

If you'd like any pictures of Baywatch resort, you can PM me and let me know and I can post them.

T-bonz also owns several other restaurants in the area. They own Liberty Steakhouse at Broadway at the Beach (very good) and a Brazilian Steakhouse right near T-bonz as well (un-freaking-believable). Forget the name of the group, but they often advertise together!

My parents plan on moving to Pawley's Island in March, and I plan to visit them shortly thereafter!

Pawley's Island is awesome! I like the area South of MB, as well as the area to the North. I would love to live in that area.

Ok, it's official-we're doing this!! It sounds really fun and I think our kids will love it. Thanks! :thumbsup2

Now, does anyone have any info on Monterey Bay Suites-good bad or indifferent?
