Older DD has a band trip to Myrtle beach right after spring break, so I guess we'll forego the Mouse till school ends in May. Does anyone have any info for me on this place? I'd love to find a board similar to this one (fat chance) or jsut some general info. I'm not looking forward to a bus ride (all chaparones have to ride the bus), and have no idea what to expect accomodation wise. I know they plan on going to a place called Broadway that looks similar to City Walk at US. HELP!

LOL, I just made a reservation today for the weekend of March 30! my youngeer dd will be competing in a dance competition that weekend, both of my girls have been there with travel camp, but I've never gone,

I'm loving the idea, though...I booked at one bedroom suite -- it has 2 double beds, a sleeper sofa and a murphy bed, and a full kitchen, and a balconey looking over the ocean, for $84/night -- group rate, gthe usual rate is $184. a lot cheaper than WDW!

Unfortunately, I have no control over anything with this trip, which is a novel experience for me. I am the ultimate planner. Usually had a hand in booking accomodations for cheerleading trips, etc. The band director tells me it's a nice place, but I admit I'm a bit of a diva, as are both my DD's about where we stay. I'm hoping, after seeing the website for the Broadway place that it's at least that Hampton Inn there. It looks doable, but there's no way it's the Grand Floridian! He says the band competition includes dinner at Medieval Times one night, we're to spend some time at Broadway, some amusement park and I think one meal at NASCAR. That's what makes me think that the hotel is in the Broadway area due to the bus logistics.

I went 2 years ago and was very disappointed in it.

:( Come on now, that's not what I'm wanting to hear! Is it the fact that it ain't Disney (which has been our major gripe with other vacations), or was it seedy, not kid friendly, run down?

It was just really touristy to me. I live in southeast TN, and I equated Myrtle Beach to Gatlinburg with a beach on the side.

You may love it though!

Broadway at the Beach does have a nice Hampton Inn at one end. Very close by are a Courtyard by Marriott; several timeshare places, and other hotels. There are a ton of restaurants at Broadway. There is also a Ripley's Aquarium at Broadway that I always enjoy. Located about 2 miles from Broadway is a new mall which is pretty large for the area.

I guess the amusement park would be the Family Fun Amusement Park, since the other park (the Pavilion) was closed this year. It has a fun coaster, and a good selection of rides. Its located in the southern part of Myrtle.

There are also two outlet shopping centers in Myrtle. I've never found an active board on M.B.

We go fairly frequently, so I'll be happy to answer questions.

Please, not Gatlinburg! We made the mistake of spending T'giving there 2 years ago, easily spent as much as if we were with the Mouse. Plus, it seemed to be getting a little tourist trappy feeling.

I'll get with you when I know the hotel.
