MyPoints gift card question

Someone had posted awhile back that they used their points to purchase a gift card at Walgreens and then turned around and used it to purchase a Disney gift card.

Well, I called two of my local Walgreens today to double check their policy on this before making the plunge and both said it was absolutely not allowed. Has anyone else been able to use a GC to buy another GC at Walgreens? I'm wondering if I should check at yet another Walgreens.

Pretty sure they don't allow this. I can't say 100% for Walgreens but I bought a gift card at Rite Aid with a Rite Aid gift card before not knowing the policy. A couple days later when I called to check the balance on the card (I often do this to make sure it was activated) there was no balance. Luckily I still had my receipt. Well, the manager said it should have never been allowed and for some reason it took the balance off the Rite Aid card but did not activate and add money to the restaurant gift card I purchased. They fixed it for me but strictly told me the DO NOT accept a gift card to purchase a gift card. Hope this helps

Drats...it would have been a great deal if I could have done it. I guess the other poster was lucky and had a check-out person who didn't know the rules.

LOL My husband is awesome at picking cashiers who are extra nice, when I have an expired coupon or something I send him out to scout me a good cashier. I picked one the other day that rejected my day old coupon, he whispered to me as we walked up that she was going to read the fine print on all my coupons so I better have them right. Sometimes I hate him!

Wow, I never heard of that before. I have heard of others buying Disney GC with Walgreen gc before here though. I've never done it though

I just did this a few weeks ago. I had 2- $50 Walgreen gift cards and used it to buy a $100 Disney Gift Card. I don't know if the cashier even knew what I used to pay with. They have the Credit/Debit machines. You just slide your walgreens gift card thru and hit the gift card button. I put both of mine through and it worked just fine.

The person that originally posted about it said that the cashier said they didn't think it would work, but they could try. And the machines let it happen.

I've thought about doing it, but I would have to make sure that I would be OK just having a Walgreens giftcard, in case my store's machines were different, or if they had fixed the machines that were letting this happen.

If you spend money at Walgreens anyway, and it does NOT work, then you could just buy your normal stuff there with the GC, and then take the money you would have used out of your account to buy a Disney GC instead...

Just to report back, I went by another Walgreens today and asked the Manager if I could use a Walgreens GC to purchase a Disney GC. He said "Of course". When I told him that 2 other local Walgreens had just told me no on the phone, he said that I may purchase any type of card with my Walgreens GC except the reloadable type (I'm guessing phone minutes and such).

He gave me his name, so hopefully if I order the MyPoints Walgreens GC, I can go in and see him to make my purchase. How long does it take for a GC card to come in once you order? I don't want him to relocate before I try to do it.
