She emailed me this morning because she has been unable to login to her account for a couple of days. They did this to her last week and the next day, the account was fine. She went to logiin on Sunday & it showed as disabled----JUST when she had enough to cash out for a $100 WC-ugh! She finally received a email from them yesterday that said she needs to fax in a copy of her State issued ID (like a drivers license) to have them reinstate her account. But she is older & does not have access to a fax machine (its hard enough for her to figure out the programs) plus she feels they are "getting" her because she was going to cash out for a larger amount. They did not say whether or not her points will be reinstated. I know for a fact she recently clicked on a link she saw on the MC board--so now I am wondering if they really just need to verify her ID or what? I think I have heard of this happening to others before, but tell me if anyone here has any knowledge of this so I can allay her fears--thanks!

I can't believe it... There is a few reasons why they did this.

It might be a ramdom check, maybe part of MyPoints auduitors checking. Or it might be because you Mom suscribed for a MyPoints credit card.... I would email them and have them explain their reasons in more detail.;)

Have her email them and explain to them that she has no access to a fax machine. And then have her tell them that she has since decided from reading other people's posts that her account may have been disabled because she clicked on that link. Tell her that she didn't understand until after the fact that it was against the TOS of Mypoints to click on links like that. Then have her ask them to please remove those points from her account since they were not intended for her, and would they please open her account.

From what I have read from most people, if you admit your booboo with them, they will open your account back up.

And please, for everyone else, NEVER click on a mypoints link that you see on a board. They are send out in bonus mails and are not intended for everyone. My points threatened to sue bigsavings.com if they didn't stop letting posters post those links, and I would hate for Pete to recieved any grief over these points!

My mom received an answer back regarding the identification. They said that another user has a similar username to hers and lives in the same town as she does (I find this hard to believe as she lives in a little hick-town-LOL). They said they need to verify her identification to make sure she is who she says she is basically. She asked about the link she clicked on & they did say all her points would be reinstated but that they would remove the points from that offer. So, obviously they are very careful about what you are doing, etc... as Mal has noted in her recent post & many of us have noted before--click with caution. If you can't get to that MyPoints logo to click on by going thru the site and looking for it, then it is not meant for you.
