MyPoints - Can you explain?

Several times I've seen MyPoints referred to on the boards. Can someone explain it to me? What is it? How do I use it? How easy is it? How time consuming is it?

Our trip starts Dec. 31. Is that enough time to earn something to use on this trip?

Mypoints is a site where you earn points for reading emails, doing surveys and shopping online.

You could earn enough points for something if you plan to do a lot of online shopping in the next month but you wouldn't earn enough just through paid clicks.

It's really simple though and they do give you 5pts per email click through. I get around 30 emails a week from them although I rarely remember to click them all.

Technically, there are fourteen weeks before Christmas week. You'd need three weeks for delivery of any rewards card. That leaves 11 weeks. Assuming you clicked on 20-25 five point emails a week and answered a couple of surveys/registered for free newsletters/ect for bonus points, it could be possible to earn a $10 GC in that time without spending any money.

You can also earn points for referring other members too. If you shopped online though it would really maximize that opportunity and earn greater rewards.

You can also earn points by printing and using grocery coupons, doing some reviews in the frogpond. But shopping is the real point maker. I have only been doing it for about three months and just cashed out for my first itunes card. Coming into the holiday season, if you shopped online for gifts, you could rack up some points. I also use another rewards site, sunshine rewards, where you can do surveys and cash out for disney gift cards. I have made over $100 in the last three months. Will help out on our upcoming trip. I use to shop through MyPoints but rarely do anymore since being introduced to a website called Ebates. I do click through the emails to earn my points because no longer how long it takes me to earn gift cards, free, is still free. I usually redeem the points I earn for iTunes, Starbucks & Maggiano's. Occasionally I'll do Gap if I want to get my kids clothes.

I prefer Ebates because they send me a check for CASH rather than me having to decide what GC I'm going to get. The cash that I get back I put in my rainy day/vacation fund.
