MYM Upgrade at Parks? Gate or Advance Purchase Price?

When you upgrade a pass at WDW do you pay the difference between what you paid and the Gate Price? Or, do you still get the Advance Purchase discount?

I currently have a reservation with 4 7-day MYW Park Hopper Expiry passes, 2 adults and 2 children. Three of us have APs and we'll be saving our passes for December where we will either renew our AP or upgrade to a 10 day pass. The fourth (child's) pass will have all 7 days on it used.

I am not 100% sure if we will renew our APs or if 10 days will be enough. We usually get 2-3 trips out of our APs, but a planned trip to Disneyland and Hawaii will eat up a lot of time and money, so we're thinking about just using a 10 day pass for our 11 days in December.

Here's my dilemma.
(1) If I buy a 7-day and upgrade 3 of the passes in December to a 10-day at Gate Prices it will cost me $60 to upgrade all 3.
(2) If I buy If I buy a 7-day and upgrade 3 of the passes in December to a 10-day at Advance Purchase Prices it will cost me $27 to upgrade all 3.
(3) If I buy 10-day advance purchase for all 4 passes (including the one that will only have 7 days used) and upgrade to APs in December it'll cost $35 more (the $27 above plus $7.50 more for the child pass that will expire).

You would pay the difference between the Gate Price of your current ticket and the GP of the new ticket. The difference between the Adv Purch price and the GP is eaten by Disney.

Thanks and LOL! That was the one option I didn't think of! So, it would be about $29 for us to upgrade from a 7 day hopper expiry pass to a 10 day at the gate and keep our options open.
