well.. how do u like it?
The Ride
Come on, lets go!! my cousin, Amanda, persisted excitedly. She tugged at my arm, pushed me from the side, and constantly pulled my hair, trying to make me move. But I was paralyzed with a mixture of fear and want. The Hydra roller coaster shook me by just looking at it. I felt frozen in time.
My dad finally maneuvered my frozen body towards the gateway. I looked up and WHAM!! A car went past us, soaring fiercely like a dragon in the sky. I slowly and steadily lost hope of making it off the ride. I finally confronted my dad that I wasnt too sure of this ride. He pulled me to the side and reminded me that if I made it through The Dominator, I could definitely make it through this. I grimaced at the memory of two minutes ago as we sat on the giant pole, waiting our launch. To our surprise, we went shooting up 200 feet in the air and slowly made a descent. I took a quick look at The Hydra and inhaled the hot summer air. I wouldnt back down this time.
We slowly walked up the metal stairs to the boarding tent, step by aching step. My legs trembled and went numb as we reached the ride lines, or the places we would get on our car. I rolled my hands up into a fist form and let out a breath as The Hydra pulled into the station, releasing its previous victims with a release sound. Its taunting me, I thought. It thinks I cant survive its vicious ways. I wasnt going to let my fears get in the way of my fun summer vacation.
Please step onto the platform a voice from an audio speaker instructed us. I sat in the second-to-middle seat. I pulled down the safety restraint that went over my head. There was a safety buckle, too. As I buckled that one in, I wondered why so many safety requirements. I scared myself with that statement and realized this may not have been the best choice. I heard a release sound and we were on our way. I was clinging to the restraints as we approached the first twist on the track. Of all my luck, the very first thing the demon machine does is a slow 360. I couldnt bear it any longer and I screamed a little Im helpless owl-like scream. I felt my heart drop as my body weight shifted into the restraints as we turned slowly at the 360¬¬ degree angle. Giving up yet? the beast taunted with a screeching noise. You know what, Im not! I practically yelled.
Huh? Amanda and my dad seemed to say in unison.
Uh nothing! I quickly replied. Ugh. Did I just say that out loud? It didnt matter, because we started our incline. Click, click. Up the winding hill of doom we went. Well, goodbye! I told my dad and Amanda. Once again a puzzled look spread across their faces as we reached the peak. The mighty machine slowly declined. It went faster and faster each inch. A smile sunk into my cheeks as the wild piece of metal zoomed through the park with a grim feeling. I noticed the disappointment the ride seemed to carry, because my fears took an eight mile hike and wouldnt be back until I was a senior citizen! I leaned over a smidge, the mischievous wind whipping my hair around like an electric beater, to check up on the now gloomy faced Amanda. I could tell she wasnt exactly bliss on a stick at the moment. I gave her a weak, I-Feel-Bad-For-You smile and enjoyed the rest of my ride time.
As The Hydra pulled into the station, I was smiles from ear-to-ear. I cant exactly say the same for Amanda. My dad didnt exactly care, but I couldnt help but letting out a scream of joy. Some of its newer passengers looked at me. They were probably wondering why the heck I was screaming. Well now, thats for me to know, and for them to find out! A pale faced Amanda shrugged slowly down the stairs back to safe solid ground. She raced to a bench, sat down, and a look of liveliness and color returned to her face. My dad and I hurried to the gift shop, where we bought our photos of us on the ride. I also bought a t-shirt! I begged if I could ride again and again and again, but Amanda pushed my father to rest for a while, and so thats what we did for some time. Poor Amanda will probably never recover, but I know my heart will never stop beating from that joyous moment.
The rest of my trip to Dorney Park was filled with rides, thrills, and chills. Two other roller coasters, two log flumes, and many more exciting rides topped my day off. The only ride I couldnt conquer was the Steel Force. But next time I go to Dorney, I promised myself if its the last thing I do I will ride Steel Force. I backed down on it, just like I almost backed down on Hydra. But I wonder what would have happened if I actually backed out of The Hydra. Would my day have gone differently? Would I hate roller coasters forever? Would I have conquered ANYTHING?? Well, thats for God to know, and for me to, thankfully, never find out.
