I just took my kids to CEC yesterday since it's Spring Break. LOL Pizza is AWFUL!! But I used the $9.99 coupon for a large pizza from the Kool-aid boxes, made em drink water and used the $12.50 buy 50 tokens get 50 free, plus had some of the 10 free ones from Kool aid box too. So, for under $25 we had a great time! :thumbsup2

Now, if you had just put the Kool Aid singles in the water you really would have been doing good!! :rotfl2:

I will go to CEC but only in the morning on a weekday when school is not out.

Yeah, I'm picky. I hate sweaty kid smell too and I need to keep track of where my two littler ones are which is impossible with 8.2 million preteens running rampant. I support your decision OP! I would never do it if I couldn't go in off hours.

Oh, I hear ya! DH and I both despise that big rat! That money hungry, loud as heck, nasty grub place is the last place I will ever go again. DS#2 received an invitation yesterday for a birthday party (that is on Sunday  ) I refuse to go!!! I know darn well DH won't be taking him either!!!

Just say no! :thumbsup2 Fortunately, I've managed to convert my kids (who are older now) into culinary snobs now :rotfl2: :rotfl2: so that nonsense of bad frozen pizza is behind us.

I HATE that place!!! When the kids were little, MIL used to insist on taking us there when we could ill afford it and, naturally, she didn't pay. It was chaotic and horrible. Bleh.

A few years ago, for whatever reason, I had a b-day party for DS at one. The party lasted like 90 minutes and the second our time was up, they kicked us out and there were NO tables for us to sit at! There we were, waiting for parents to show up and nowhere to go with our food. All the tables were reserved. Had they told us about doing that, we would have reserved a table for when the party was over. :sad2:

DD has been begging and begging and begging for me to take her there. Do you think your DW will take her for me if I pay her lots of money??? :teeth:

Just had DS third birthday party there in Feb. The one by where we live is really nice and not very crowded on weekdays. We never go on the weekends unless it is a friend's b-day. princess:

I just flat out told her that I will never go into one again, ever. I can't hand over like $15 for a bad frozen pizza. I can't watch my money go into a machine faster than a slot machine, knowing that I have ZERO chance of walking away with more than I came with. And, it even disappears FASTER than at the casino. I can usally make a $100 last all night at a casino.... that's like 2 hours at CEC if you include food.

I get the shivers just thinking about that place....

She's actually pretty upset. But this time she is gonna have to live with it, cuz no way am I ever stepping into one of those places again.

Heck, I can take my whole family to www.knoebels.com for a WHOLE day and spend less than 2 hours of bad food and bad games at CEC.[/QUOTE]
Why? Why the hatred :confused3 We have asked politely to leave PA's best secret that way.
Rebel!

We're going to Knoebels this summer!!! (and bringing all of Canada with us...muuuuhahahahahah)

Yep!!! Thats the way I heard it :rolleyes1

I just checked and we only paid $40.37 at Chuck E Cheese on our last visit for a family of 5. Our sunday paper always has coupons and since our kids are getting too old for the ball pit & tunnels we used the one for a large pizza, 4 drinks (had the 2 boys share :rolleyes1 ) and 100 tokens plus H & I got the salad bar. I think the pizza is pretty good, the salad bar was fresh, and the only minor problem was the soda dispenser was out of ice, and this was plenty of food for us all tho I think the kids were more interested in playing then eating but they didn't complain of starvation right after we left :thumbsup2 . We hold onto the tokens and hand them out 10 at a time to make them last and when they're gone they're gone. We have to help my youngest do the games and I noticed everyone was very polite in waiting to play and the person playing would see someone waiting and get back in line if they wanted to play a second time. I thought this was a cheap activity tho I was shocked when we went to leave and had spent almost 3 hours there :rolleyes2

The only thing I didn't like was there was a waiting list when we got there. We don't go often enough to have seen this before but next time we'll go earlier or we could have left for an hour and come back if we weren't starved. And I don't like all the cheap prizes for the tickets.

Calie

But the kids like it. :rotfl2: Sorry I am a mean mom. We only went for other kids birthday parties because I felt obligated to go to birthday parties. Ours did sell wine which dulled the pain. Now we have moved on to Dave and Busters which I really like.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 ITA!!!!

HATE HATE HATE chuckie's! First of all it's a germ-factory, money-stealing, disgusting place. Can you tell I hate it! I call it my "Instant Migraine" place. It's also the only place that puts me in a panic that my kids are going to disappear! The last time I was there they let me walk out with my two kids and NEVER checked my hand stamp. NEVER going back!!!! Sorry to vent...but I have been there recently. YUCK!

So I have to say...totally on your side with this one! Order a pizza from a real pizzeria, bring it to a local park and let the kids run and play for free and safely!!!! That's my thinking :teeth: .

I would note that I have actually gone to CEC more times than HaleyB is letting on, though she has some mercy due to my horrible past with that place.

I used to work at a CEC when I was in High School at sixteen. My friend's girlfriend wanted to apply there, but was too shy to go in and get an app. by herself, so I went in there to get an app. with her, planning to throw it away on the way out. When we asked for one, the manager, this grizzled old Marine-type, came out to the counter and hired us on the spot, getting our phone numbers, telling us about the dress code, and letting us know to be there next Saturday morning at eight. I figured I was trapped since I didn't want an angry Marine calling me. That was my second most hated job.

I made a lot of mediocre pizza, and learned the valuable life lesson that working food service is the suck. I was a punk-rock dude, so I didn't relate too well with my coworkers who were predominantly jocks on the wrestling team or girls on the swim team or pep-squad. There was one plus side which was that I was friends with the bartenders so I sometimes got free beer and tokens.

The worst part was having to wear the rat suit. The kids would surround you, and then the less-well-behaved older kids would circle in to try to pull off your gloves and yank on the tail. Since you couldn't see there was an attendant who was supposed to lead you around and stop the more egregious assaults, but they always seemed to be kind of amused when it was my turn to be stumbling around with a swarm of kids assaulting me from all directions. They were always a lot of less-well-behaved kids. I did like wearing the purple-eggplant-thing suit, it scared the kids, so you basically were on break.

Now when I go into a CEC I see those poor kids in the kitchen behind the counter, and that poor victim in the Rat suit, I have a lot of sympathy. The games are a lot worse now too. They used to have a fair range of modern video games along with the kiddie-stuff, so the free tokens I gained by slightly illicit means actually seemed like a perk, and I could even occasionally bribe my friends with them. Now they are really focused on kiddie games, so one mostly stands around watching the kids dropping twenty(ish) cent tokens into a game which dispenses a few tickets with an (at best) one cent value.

Jeez!!! I thought the whole point of Chuckie Cheese's was to make sure the KIDS had a good time and not the adults. Hmmmmmm :confused3

I'm personally so grateful that Walt Disney thought that both should have fun!

I was so glad when DS outgrew Chucky Cheese. We started going to Gattiland or Gattitown whichever was available and I like those. Decent food and fun stuff for the whole family to do is a nice change IMO.

Knoebel's is closing? Oh No!!! I hadn't heard that anywhere!!!

Yeah, Uhm Thats the ticket ;)

Enjoy yourself!!! Pm me and maybe our families can meet!

The CEC years don't last forever (unless you keep having more children ;) ). My 8 and 10 year old DSs have less interest in going than the OP does!

Our younger nephews were staying with us not long ago, and I thought CEC would be a good outing to get everyone out of the house. I had to drag DSs along. They couldn't believe I was making them to go to "that little kids' place." Of course, I remember when they would have gone there everyday if I would have taken them.

Just get an overpriced plastic cup of beer at CEC and deal with it. You're making great memories for your kids. :cheer2:
