Ok...so this afternoon my cell phone decided it was time to stop making and receiving phone calls. After working with the folks at Verizon via my house phone, it was concluded that my phone cannot be fixed...hence, time for a new one.
The one thing I love about this current phone is the touch screen. Specifically the fact that I can use my nails as opposed to my finger tips. I'm looking into the Droids. Can anyone recommend a Verizon Droid that I would be able to type on the screen with my nails? Any advice would be appreciated! Tks!!

I would also check out the Iphone 4 that is on the Verizon coming Feb. 4.

Isn't that typical - a new product comes out and the old one dies.:rotfl:

I don't know if you want to wait until Feb but, yes, the iPhone 4 is awesome. I have wanted an iPhone forever, DH said "no, No, NO!!!" but suprised me with one for Christmas. I knew it would be cool but not this cool ;)

That said, DH's best friend has a Droid and DH wants one in the WORST way. So I don't think you would be going wrong there. Could you play with some in a Verizon store? I know what you mean about the touch screen.

this is funny to find this thread my env touch just died to the touch screen stopped working.... i love it so much... there really isn't anything else i want... luckly i have insurrance my new env touch is coming monday and it was free... yippy.

Thanks everyone!
I wish I could wait until Feb for the Iphone, but I really need a phone now! I'm going to head over to a Verizon store tmr with DH and check out a few phones. He read good reviews on the "Droid Incredible"....so we'll see! :thumbsup2

I have an EnV Touch, and have had small issues with it. Such as the screen freezing, going black, not reacting to touch. I've taken it in twice. For most issues, I've been lucky that all I've had to do is take the battery off and put it back in (such as when it freezes). I did take it into the store when it first started to happen, but live with it as it is now.

I am counting down the days to my renewal (April I beleive).

If you have a warranty, it is possible that maybe you can take it into a Verizon store and they can give you a refurbished one. Hubster had an LG flip phone that was actong up, and they replaced it with a refurbished one.

To answer the actual question... you are out of luck with most decent smart phones. If the screen is listed as capacitive, it will not work with nails. This includes the iPhone and most Droid branded phones. Capacitive screens work on electrical charge as opposed to pressure, which is why you need an actual finger touch and explains why nails and hands using gloves won't work.

This is actually a replacement phone from the Voyager almost a year ago. I loved my Voyager but had so many problems that after 3 refurbs they offered me the LG EnV Touch. Coincidently I qualify for an "early upgrade" now instead of waiting until this May (thank Goodness)...according to Verizon that is. My daughter also has the same phone, and we both have experienced the same issues that you have stated. Removing the battery has always corrected any problems in the past....until this one.:confused3

Darn! That's exactly what I was afraid of!:sad2: Thank you for the explanation! :thumbsup2
Guess I'll just have to check out various screens and see what will work best for me....perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised! :)

If you want to hold out for iPhone just borrow an old Verizon phone from someone, or use one of your old ones. You can easily switch your number to the old phone, then renew when the iPhone comes out.

I can HIGHLY recommend the Droid X, especially if you are used to the virtual keyboard. I agree, you need some skin touching the keyboard but held horizontally the keys are VERY big for a cell phone and even with nails you should be able to type using the pad of your finger. It is also has the speak to text capability so you can text and email by speaking into the phone. I LOVE that feature. When held vertically the keys are small, like other cell phones.

I mainly use my thumbs to text with my Droid so you could keep your thumb nails slightly smaller if needed too.

I had to renew early in December for the same problem - my EnV Touch was crapping out and was very unreliable. Part of the problem is that the battery is attached to the back, so after awhile any sharp movement will cause it to wiggle and the connections will lose contact for a moment - which is all it takes. I had been trying for an early upgrade since around Thanksgiving!

I now have a Droid X and I couldn't be happier. :) I use the text to speech feature a lot and I love it.

Yep, I thought about that...but now I'm getting xcited about a NEW phone!! LOL! Also, I think you get so many days to return a phone if you don't like it (not sure tho)??? If so, that might push me into February...perhaps in time for the Iphone release date! ;)

I found the Droid X to be too big and went with the Incredible. Love it!!

It is large, but I can still fit it in my pocket when I go to the parks and that's all I care about as far as size goes. :rotfl: Its in my purse otherwise, and its far from a tight squeeze there. We're actually paying less per month with our new call plan, too (only a couple dollars, but every little bit helps, right?)

Oh and best part Disney-wise? The big and obvious red button for taking pictures - so easy for handing off to get photos at character M&G's.

You have 30 days to return the phone, IIRC.

(Also, you *must* get the free alchemy game - so fun!)

Heading to Verizon in a few!! :cool1:

I'm back!! I am now the proud owner of a new Droid X! Although I did like the Droid Incredible, I really wanted the largest buttons (letters) possible so I have less change of screwing up! LOL!!

...So now I'll be busy figuring out how to use this new contraption!!

Thanks everyone for your help!!

The "long hold" is your friend. If you hold something for a couple seconds a menu pops up with options. Also, chances are whatever you are looking for is a simpler solution then you are making it :lmao:. I have found that while it looks complicated it is actually very, very easy to use-easier than any other phone we have had in our family.

I LOVE the "maps" app that comes preloaded. It has a GPS feature that works better then my real GPS :thumbsup2. I do need to see if I can change the voice on that though-I need a man's voice so I can hear it better.

The bar code scanner is really fun.

You can also download the Nook and Kindle apps (it comes preloaded with Kindle) and read books on your phone. I use that ALL the time!! Very handy in waiting rooms :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info!! :thumbsup2 I have been playing with my new phone all afternoon trying to figure things out!! :cool1: Glad to hear that it's easy to use....cuz I'm still in the "looks complicated" mode! ;) LOL!! No manual enclosed...so I'm online trying to figure out the simplest of things!! :surfweb:
I'm super excited to learn all about it! Even the Salesman has one...he told us about how awesome the GPS is...and how it's even better than the ones on the market! That's cool!!:woohoo:
Can't wait to check out the Droid apps store...that'll be next!! Thanks again!!:thumbsup2
