Just had to vent...I have a wonderful trip booked for March break and unfortunately I wrapped my van around a concrete post at Tim Horton's on the weekend! It turns out the damage will be over $5000 and I'm leaning toward paying out of pocket because of the risk of having my insurance policy cancelled if I make another claim within the next 6 years! Boy, have I learned alot about Ontario insurance in the last couple of days! I cannot believe we have gotten to the point that they can hold the threat of cancellation over your head like that!

So, unfortunately I'm feeling crappy about it and feel as though I need to cancel the trip in order to pay for it. I know in the end we will probably go - only because it is possibly the last family trip we will have before my daughter goes off to university. I know the fallout of cancelling would be huge to her - she cries everytime we leave and is already packaging for March break! Go figure!

Anyway, I will keep y'all posted on my on-going dilemma. To go or not to go, that is the question...:(

:(
That is too bad for you.
I hope things work out for you and you can still do your vacation with your family.

I can commiserate last year the week before March Break the transmission went on DH's car. WE were going to go to South Carolina but instead spent $3500.00 for a new transmission. It was a hard decision to make but i am glad we made the choice we did and didn't put the trip on the credit card.

I hope everything works out for you and good luck with the insurance it is pretty scarry right now.

Sending you some {{{HUGS}}} I hope you can make it all work out. A friend of mine had a similar dilemma, still went on the trip. I'm so glad she did because she has now been given some major health issues to deal with. You just never know what's around the corner. And since it's quite possibly the last "family vacation", I say go for it. There's always going to be something that the money could be spent on ... go for the memories !

Bonnie I'm so sorry for your bad luck and I'm glad that no one was hurt though.:D

I understand fully about bad times as this past New Years Day my son was drving our mini van and the engine decided to blow!:( We've now had to go and buy a new car while still paying payments on the van! Also the price of insurance for a newer car (we have bought a 2002 Focus wagon) is simply atrocious to say the least!!!!!

It never rains but it pours doesn't it? We had plans to go away this next month to Mexico but that's all been put aside now.:(

Hang in there as good things will happen again....at least I keep telling myself this!::yes::

Wow! Thanks for all the kind words of support! Here's my update - the trip is on! Yeah!

Finally made the decision to put in a claim for the damage. I certainly didn't find my broker especially helpful, but I did get good advice from another one who said to make the claim and hope we don't have another accident in the next 6 years. If so, that one will probably be the one we 'eat' and not claim.

I feel like a load has been lifted and I can now get back to concentrating on our trip.

I believe there is as much fun in the planning as the trip itself! :)

Hooray for you ... I'm glad you made the decision that you did. I don't think you'll regret it. Now back to your planning and packing !

Bonnie,

How great!!! :jumping1:
I am very happy for you and hope you have a wonderful trip to WDW!! It's so nice to read good things!!

Can certainly understand your situation esp about the car accident. I had one almost 3 years ago and now drive very carefully so that I won't have another within the 6 year period. I've been told though that it's really in the first 2 years that might get you into trouble. I was actually surprised at how much my insurance went up -- it wasn't as much as I was worried about. My car was totalled so I didn't have a choice about reporting or not. I hope yours will be ok.

As to an unexpected event I can understand that too but mine's not a car but a tooth! Just had to have dental surgery. I have dental coverage but it doesn't cover everything so I'm waiting to see what's not covered. Had no choice but it still sucks. We were debating a trip in April but I don't think that's going to be possible now. We still have our trip in October so I'm not totally crushed.

Have a great trip!!! Cars are replaceable, memories aren't.

Kind of makes you question the merit of carrying insurance sometimes! Glad to hear your trip is back on! Have a great time!

I'm glad to hear that your trip is on again, Bonnie! Maybe I'll see you there as we're going at March Break and staying at Pop Century (15th ~ 20th) too!

I didn't know about the "6 year" time frame but I hope I never have to worry about that. Now that Dan is driving I'm always telling him to be careful and watch out for the "other guy".

So sorry that you had to cancel your Mexico plans next month, Cindy. I hope you are able to get back on track soon and start planning your next vacation!

Good luck with your dental coverage, Fiona! I'm also waiting to hear back regarding coverage for a couple of gingival grafts but have my appointment booked in April. I decided I'll worry about it after I get back from our March trip. It's a procedure I wouldn't mind putting off!

Good luck Julie. If I could have put it off I gladly would have but the pain was way too intense. Ended up in the dental emergency clinic having a partial root canal and then after visiting my own dentist twice ended up at the oral surgeon. I'm hoping the insurance will cover most of it and I think it will. Luckily I have dental coverage.

Everyone have a great trip. Take lots of pictures too!

I'll be there in October and know for sure that my tooth won't hurt then -- kept thinking that it would have been a disaster to have this happen on our cruise so it's just as well it happened now.

Thanks for all the support! :) Comforting to know that others see the value of a family vacation even with other pressing financial issues!

Julie, are you flying or driving? Do you know what decade you want to stay in at PC?

Bonnie, Dh and I are driving down right after we see the boys off to school on the last Friday morning before March Break (they chose not to go with us last year too). We plan to stop in Knoxville for the night and arrive in Orlando the following late afternoon. We have driven down many times before and go the I75 route. As far as decade, I hadn't really given it much thought. They all look like fun! I'll probably just leave it to chance and see what we end up with. Plus, there are things that I can relate to from all the decades that are currently available! ;)
