HI!
I am trying to figure out which of these two dolls to order my daughter for Christmas. If there is anyone out there who could give me a comparison of the two that would be great. Any info would be appreciated.

Go with the american Girl if it is to be play with doll. If it is for display then the choice is yours.

1. The vast majority of girls will have Am. Girl.
2. The My Twinn is big and and an akward size for girls to play with.
3. All the generic clothes are sized fro the Am. Girl size doll
4. All the generic furniture is sized for Am. Girl.
5. It is hard to find any clothes or furniture to fit My Twinn except thru My Twinn so more expensive.
6. My Twinn takes up that much more room in your home.

I don't think at their size they are a good size for girls to play with and carry around. I think that the fact that most of the girls ask for and get American Girl dolls a big deciding factor because they want to play with their dolls together and if one doesn't fit the size range it stands out and makes it harder to play-It won't fit any of the other girls furniture and their dolls will look out of place on her furniture.

I wanted to add that the My Twinn doll is also a bit creepy!

Depending on the age of your DD, with the American Doll, I think that the tie to the books is nice. It really encourages reading about their doll's character and learning some history. It also encouraged my DD7 to read about the other doll's characters (not just the one that she has).

We have both dolls.
There are "plus's" to both dolls.

My Twinn is far more poseable than an AG
My Twinn can wear baby shoes and some baby clothes
My Twinn is 23 inches

AG is more recognized (i.e Susie has an AG I want one too)
AG are easier for younger girls to care for.
AG is 18 inches

From what I understand the AG dolls have many more "things" that go with them, I.E. clothing, accessories, etc that will tie in with their time period and story.

Thank you for the feedback. I did not realize the My Twinn doll was so much larger than the AG doll. My daughter really likes the Nicki doll and since she will no longer be here next year I think I will go for her.

My youngest daughter has both the American Girl and My Twinn, and my older daughters have had the American Girl dolls. I would definitely not bother with the my twinn. The my twinn dolls don't always do justice in the twin department. The American Girl dolls have such a large variety that can compliment the interests of your child. We currently own 5 of them and have an entire room filled with AG furniture, clothing and accessories. The only danger there is that it does get expensive!

We went with American Girl Alot less expensive and love the fact that they encourage reading to find out more about the Dolls.

Also if you are lucky you can find good stuff on E-bay for cheaper We got a Samantha Doll on E-bay for $40 got her home took her to AG store in Chicago one year and found out she was an original and worth a whole bunch more then we spent. WOW!!! She was our First and now DD has three AG dolls Santa brought her Josephina last Christmas and For her Birthday Nicki came to stay with us. ;) Love the American Girl Dolls

A few years ago, I would have said My Twinn. When my daughter got hers, about 6 years ago, they were customizeable. The doll was made to look so much like her, that I used to talk to the doll when she was sitting on the sofa, thinking she was my DD. Although you can still customize them, they are not an exact replica like they used to be. DD is now 10, and has American Girl dolls that she still plays with. They are a must for sleepovers, although that is now being replaced by Webkinz. Just something for you to look down the line for.

THAT is creepy!! Reminds me of a Chucky movie or something! We just got our first ever My Twin catalog yesterday. I have never actually heard of these, but couldn't believe how expensive they were! We'll stick to the AG dolls - all of DD's friends have them so they bring them along on playdates, etc., and share doll clothes. She wouldn't be able to do that with the My Twin since none of her friends have it, and as previous posters have mentioned, the dolls are bigger and need bigger clothes.

We buy clothes for the dolls through the AG outlet in Oshkosh, WI, from the annual AG "seconds and returns" sale in Middleton, WI (EXCELLENT value, dolls for $55!! Furniture at a fraction of the price!), at street fairs in my town (every woman with a sewing machine seems to be selling clothes made for AG-size dolls), and the "My Generation" clothes at Target which also fit the AG dolls perfectly. My DD doesn't care if they are genuine AG clothes or not.

She and her Brownie troop are hitting me up to take them to the AG store in Chicago for our "special outing" this year. I was thinking museum, they are thinking shopping. Go figure.
