The past two days my TiVo has been acting up. Last night my husband called the manufacturer's troubleshooting department, and they talked for about a half hour. They tried a few things, but weren't able to fix it. As a last ditch effort (before replacing the unit--it's still under warranty), the tech told us to erase everything and restore it to new condition. He suspects it's a bad hard drive.

That was last night, and today it's still trying to execute the command.

They'll ship us a replacement unit on Monday, but we won't receive it until Wednesday. The worst is all my Disney shows are gone (the Modern Marvels show, Disneyland Resort, etc.), and four of them were in High Definition. :sad1:

Oh, man!! :grouphug: That's a bummer. I got TIVO for Christmas (I've been asking for it for year!) and I can't believe how dependent I am on it already!!!
I posted last week about accidentally erasing that Modern Marvels episode - TIVO is taping all kinds of stuff as suggestions and one day I went through to erase a bunch and I forgot that was the title of the Disney show. I hadn't tried burning a DVD yet, so I was waiting to read the instructions (I have since done that and can't believe how easy it was.) I am SO upset. Another poster gave me the link to purchase the video from the History channel, but it bothers me to pay $25 for something I had for free and should have burned a DVD of right away.........

Those shows do repeat quite often. Just do your keywords and I bet it will be recorded again soon.

NOOOOOO!

I would never survive without my Tivo! :guilty: I can't imagine what you must be going through! Did Calvin have anything to do with the death of the Tivo? ;)

BTW, you have a regular Tivo and you can record in hi-def? I didn't think you could do that. I thought you could only record hi-def stuff on a DirecTV tivo. I'm intrigued.

Our Tiov died two weeks ago but it wasn't under warranty. We bought a new hard drive that also doubled the hours on it. We noticed the problem too when it wouldn't execute anything. Luckily we have another Tivo that we use in another room to take up the slack til the new part came in.

UGH! So sorry! it's amazing how much we rely on these little gadgets isn't it?

Our tivo is going on 4 years old and I fear the day this happens. (I probably just jinxed myself!)

Sorry to hear that! I'm so scared of this happening to ours. I know it will eventually. Good thing about the Disney shows is that they do air quite often so it shouldn't take long to get them back.

Aaaaarrrrgggh!!!! Oh the horror! The agony! I totally feel for you-that's a bummer. I have a good solution though-get a second Tivo :thumbsup2

I've seriously had both tivo's recording one show at the same time 'just to make sure'.

The guy who installed it for us called Tivo's "crack for suburbanites". I then asked him how many he had and he admitted he had FOUR! One for each member of his family :rotfl2:

I really feel for you.

My DH (please don't tell anyone)-ha) hacked our TIVO (we had a first generation) to add a larger hard drive for more room to record.

While MacGyver was doing that I was standing by telling him it doesn't work we better find out BEFORE Best Buy closes so I can have one tonight.

I didn't even want it before we got it, now if ours broke I would be the first one out the door getting a new one.

labdogs, last year we bought a hi-def TV and upgraded our TiVo to a hi-def unit.

Ava, this is our second TiVo unit. My husband also hacked our first one and installed a larger hard drive. It was already out of warranty, so that wasn't an issue. He's a PC whiz, so installing the hard drive was no big for him.

crack for suburbanites
:lmao: That's a good one. I'll have to share it with my TiVo-dependant friends.

I knew I could count on you guys to understand and sympathize. Group hug! :grouphug:

I hope you're all right about that Modern Marvels show - I've tried looking on the History Channel website and it doesn't show it as coming up right now.

We have a DVR with Time Warner at it went wonky this week. I only had a couple of hours of programming saved, yet it wouldn't record, rewind, fast forward, any of that. So I erased everthing I had saved, and that didn't work. I was irate. Then out of sheer desperation, I just unplugged the whole thing and rebooted it, and it was like the problems were never there, and my programs were never erased!! Go figure!!!

We've had our Tivo die on us too and we lost everything on it! We hadn't even watched 1/2 of the stuff because we'd been too busy! I was so sad when I shipped it back to Tivo and they sent me a new one without my stuff on it. Some of the programs haven't come back on and this was almost 18 months ago. Now we have the comcast DVR AND Tivo but we don't have the Tivo working in our room yet. Some connectivity issues with the Wireless Connection. I feel for you though! We've had Tivo since 6 months after it came out and I am so addicted! Thankfully with the Comcast one I can take it back when it gets jacked up and get a new one that day.

Hope you are able to find your shows again!

Man, that's tough.

We have Direct TV and they are bringing our DVR unit on Tuesday morning!!! :Pinkbounc  :cheer2:
It is our family Valentine's Day present. Yippee! We are excited. We have gotten to the point where we are having to go to bed at 10 (getting old sucks) and we're missing CSI: Miami. That is the main reason - the secondary reason being that DH wants to tape all these war shows from the Military channel. LOL! Wonder when he is planning on watching all that? Certainly not while I'm at home.. Hee hee!

How bad are we? Well, next vacation down to disney we're bringing our tivo with us to the rental house! Oh, we've got it BAD! :rotfl:

The good news is the replacement TiVo arrived Tuesday and my husband installed it that night. On Wednesday I started programming it (wishlists, season passes, went through the movies and gave them thumbs up, etc.).

On Thursday the replacement TiVo died. Well, not completely, but it decided to reboot itself and got stuck on the "Welcome. Powering Up" screen. It did this twice. We have to unplug it and plug it back in to make it work properly.

The replacement for the replacement may arrive as early as tomorrow.

I should add that the replacement unit was an obvious refurb. I guess they didn't test it enough.

The good news in all of this is when you send the unit back, they don't want the remote returned. So we'll have three remotes when this is all done.

:guilty: I'm so sorry about your tivo. DH disconnected our tivo the other night to move a piece of furniture and had a little trouble getting it back on. I almost made him sleep in the guest room. ;)

We had to get a replacement tivo a couple of years ago. I recall what a bummer it was to have lost my shows that I was saving.

I would be seriously crushed if this happened. Hope your recover soon! :goodvibes
