My pre-trip report ….

Some of you may remember my last two trip reports – “Cousins take on the World” chronicled my December 2003 trip with my usual Disney traveling partner – my cousin Annmarie. 3 months later, I took my 7-year-old nephew on a short Disney trip and wrote about it in a series called “My first non-adult trip”.

I recently found the post for the last day of that trip and had written “That being said, I came home from this trip wanting another (adult trip) right away. Being so close to Tower of Terror and not riding it, knowing that the cheese soup from La Cellier was so close but not being able to get it, the thought of bypassing the security line because I don't have a bagful of things to lug around for a seven-year old - these are all things that have made my desire to return shortly very strong. Annmarie and I have an October 2005 trip planned, but I'm going to try to work something in this year, even if it means going by myself for a few days at Thanksgiving.”

Well here it is, one week until Thanksgiving and my countdown clock is once again ticking away. I tried to convince Annmarie to come with me, but she has the responsibility of a family to consider, so I guess it’s just me.

I’ve never been to Disneyworld alone. The funny thing is, I am a frequent solo traveler. I long ago gave up the notion that I’d have to miss out on something simply because I didn’t have anybody to go with. I’ve been to Europe by myself, have traveled to Hawaii by myself more time than I can count and gone on many other trips alone. When it comes to Disneyworld, however, I’ve always had a traveling partner. More times than not, it has been my cousin Annmarie. Annmarie has been very supportive of this solo trip, helping me fine-tune my itinerary and providing her input.

Somehow I have managed to save two vacation days from work - those coupled with Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after (which my boss gives us off) have formed the basis of this trip. I will leave the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and come home on Monday.

I’ve heard horror stories about the crowds at Thanksgiving, and don’t really have a good perspective. Annmarie and I have visited Disneyworld at Thanksgiving, but it was in 2001 – shortly after the September 11th tragedy when travel and tourism was extremely light.

That being said, I’m not doing a lot of pre-planning for this trip. That’s not to say that I don’t already know which park I will be visiting on each day, but I’m not going to micro-manage each day. I’ve only made a few PS’s and I have tickets to MVMCP for Sunday evening.

I recently posted on the trip planning board that I am going to bring my laptop with me and try for live trip reports. If nothing else, the laptop will keep me organized and not risk having to decipher my handwriting once I return.

I am booked at the Coronado Springs Resort (Annmarie and I stayed there once before) arriving on Wednesday November 24 and will return home to New York on Monday the 29th. I decided to pay a little extra to get a room with a king-sized bed. I requested a room close to the lobby, so we’ll see what I get.

If all goes well, you should be hearing from me on Wednesday (Thanksgiving Eve) with the first of my live trip reports. No doubt by the time I have finished, you will be completely sick of hearing me say “If Annmarie was here, she would have …..”, but I hope you’ll indulge me!!

Thanks,
Laura

I think alot of people go alone and have a great time.....My husbands friend is a frequent traveler and he goes alone.....so I know that you are not ALONE when you do this.......I love your itinerary and it sounds marvelous......I am anxious for my cheddar cheese soup too..........and breadsticks......oh my goodness......I have three weeks to go.........looking forward to your next one

If I was with you, we'd already have a PS for Thanksgiving dinner. Get on the ball LOL.

Seriously, I am so bummed that I can't take this trip, but I can't take Nicole and leave Cliff home alone for Thanksgiving.

I can't wait to read your live trip reports. I can live vicariously through you and we can stay in contact while you are there.

Ride Tower of Terror 100 times for me and have some fried cheese at Prime Time. Oh, and don't forget my Frunch, you know I love that stuff :D

Have a great trip! Looking forward to your reports!
