It's decent.

We stayed for 6 nights, no major problems, but might try somewhere different next time.

Getting there was a pain waiting for the Mears bus from the airport. Took forever (and I'm not saying that because I was anxious and we spent the whole day travelling from California... flight delays etc...). Seriously it took us two and half hours from the airport to the resort with only two stops before ours. Going back though was much shorter and easier. When we got in they offered to help us with luggage but we really just wanted to go eat, so they were nice and took our luggage to our room while taking us to the food place.

The staff was nice. We really didn't ever see any staff come to think of it, a couple nice bellmen and rental place workers and that was it. Can't complain about them except for slow food service, and a mean response from a waiter or something at Shutters who gave us an awefully unwelcoming response when we checked to see if the restaurant was still open at 9:55 pm (5 minutes before closing but didn't get seated).

Didn't get a chance to eat at their restaurant because it (like all everything else in Disney World closes way too early). The fast food they had there was just that, I wouldn't recommend settling for their food court especially given how crowded it was. Actually it took about 15 minutes just to get a burger. The Banana Cabana outside had only a small menu and the drinks weren't that great. Never tried room service or breakfast on property. With so many restaurants all over Disney World, make sure to keep your options open. We mainly wanted to try eating at places where we would never get the oppurtunity to go in real life, like at World Showcase in Epcot, or some of the fancier hotels.

The pools were always crowded when we wanted to use them, and you aren't allowed to swim in the lake they have which is lame and makes the beach pointless for people like me. Although using the little boats on the lake was fun. There was a serious lack of Caribbean atmosphere there. No steel drums, not many tropical settings. Just sort of regular. Nothing like the real Carribean or Bahamas.

We only had a few days at Disney World so we really didn't spend much time at the hotel, but using it for sleep was a-ok. Transportation to the parks and other hotels was a bit of a pain sometimes, but for the most part there aren't any better options. The only quicker way I can see is to stay at an actual park resort, with monorail or boat connections. The buses probably take just as long as a car, but they do take quite some time. From when you leave your room to when you walk through the gate at any of the parks could really be an hour. While the buses ran, I'd say around every 15 minutes at the resort, waiting at the parks was a pain because sometimes they would come maybe once in 45 minutes and of course you couldn't get on because of a huge line. Sometimes you are better off taking a less crowded bus somewhere else and transferring. Their shuttle system could really use some improvement, but it's pretty much the only way to get around.

Alot has changed at Disney World since we last went there about a dozen years ago, but I will post my thoughts in the other forum place. Long story short... don't expect the Caribbean beach to be anything like the Caribbean. It's really just a quiet, but crowded, hotel spread over a large property with few unneccessary amenities but few pleasurable luxuries. If this is a moderate resort I can only image how boring and lame the value resorts are. Then again, staying at the Contemporary all those years ago it wasn't that much better. I expected more but wasn't unsatisfied with what I got.

I stayed there two years ago and will never go back. IMHO (no offense) the place was pretty much rundown. I thought the place was huge and it took me a 15 minute walk to get our laundry done. Imagine lugging all that laundry back and forth!! The *beach* area wasn't much of a beach area at all....just sand covered with duck poop! The hotel pool was pretty grimy so we honestly only swimmed at the pools only once out of our 8 day stay. The rest of the time we swam at the water parks.

Thanks for your review....I agree with you.

Not sure when you stayed there but the entire resort was refurbished and reopened Dec. 2002. There is a laundry area at each quiet pool.

There aren't any lakes on WDW property where you are allowed to swim. That is a problem all across FL not just Disney.

The real steel drums were cut to save money but there is lots of music to get you into the mood.

There are many WDW resorts so there is something for everyone. I wouldn't go back to CSR but there are many fans of that resorts here. If they like it then I am happy for them.

The only grimy beach is the one near the food court, the others I have been on and they are great.

If you are looking for good fast cheap food in a Disney food court you aren't going to find it. I think all the food courts have a problem with how quick you can get a meal, especially if you are there during a busy time. The food court at CBR is much better since they went to a central check out. The grab and go market is a great place to just grab something and be on your way.

I'm sorry you had a disappointing stay at CBR.

I don't want to dispute what you said because you said you didn't have any "major" problems, so the rest is basically your opinion of the resort. Like others have said, it's a great thing that Disney offers so many different resort themes. Hopefully you'll find one to your liking. :)

As for the "Caribbean" feel at CBR, I've been to the Caribbean and in *my* opinion, CBR definitely has the look and feel of the islands. Lots of tropical plants and flowers, bright colors, and during my stays there was Caribbean music playing. CBR is a general representation of the Caribbean, it's not supposed to be exactly like being *in* the Caribbean. During my stays, the white sand beaches were beautiful, no grime at all. No grime in the pools either. The grounds seemed to be meticulously maintained. Again, I'm sorry that this wasn't your experience.

That CM at Shutters should not have had a bad attitude though, that's one thing I don't think anyone should have to experience anywhere on Disney property. What drinks did you have at the pool bar? I'm only asking this because the pina coladas that I've had there have been the BEST I've ever had anywhere. :) I know I've had other drinks from the pool bar too, and they were great, but I specifically remember how good those pina coladas were! :teeth:

The bus waits have nothing to do directly with CBR; CBR doesn't operate the buses, Disney Transportation does. I've been fortunate during my stays at CBR because we had very little wait times. When we stayed at the Grand Floridian the bus waits were MUCH much longer.

P.S. If you like the feel of the tropics, maybe next time try the Polynesian. I haven't stayed there yet but have been there to dine a couple of times and it looks wonderful :sunny:

I too will not be staying at CBR again.

The facilities are just too small for such a big resort. We were there 3/12-3/20 while the Cheerleading competition was going on, and the resort was at capacity. 3 mornings in a row I gave up on trying to eat breakfast or even get a cup of coffee with my refillable mug because the food court was so packed you couldn't breathe. The people I dealt with were nice enough, and we were impressed with how pretty the lake and how nice the beaches were, but the tightness of the food court, combined with the 15 minute walk to get to it, along with the packed buses made me long for my last trip to the All-Stars.

Fortunately we had a code for CBR that made it cheaper than the All Star for the week we were there, but next time we will either just do AS or try a different moderate.

There are probably as many people that like a resort as don't like it, based on their personal experiences. And after all, that's all any of us have to go by. Sorry your experience wasn't so good. Ours was very different. We've been to CBR at less busy times and have been very pleased with it. We actually did enjoy the theming and found the beaches to be clean. I do agree that, if the resort were totally fully, the food court and pool could be overwhelmed at peak times. We went at an off-peak time and didn't have that problem. And a rude CM shouldn't happy to anyone anywhere. We felt that the bus service from CBR was quite efficient, and we also ran into the issue of sometimes having long waits for a bus at the end of the day from the parks. But I'm not sure it's any worse for CBR than for any other resort when everyone is leaving the parks at the same time and is lining up for buses. Again, Bombsheal, I'm sorry that the experience disappointed you. I probably would have felt the same in your shoes, and I hope your next WDW stay is better.

I'm torn in my opinion about CBR. Personally, like the feeling of staying there, but the pool is the worst of any of the resorts, IMO. And since there's so many nice resorts and all with nicer pool areas, we will always choose another. From pictures, the pool looks nice, I agree with that. However, we like long days lounging by the pool during our stay. This is not the pool for that. Crammed, limited seating - no umbrella shade - overcrowded (even in January) because it is small - tiny hot tub near pool slide (filled with kids usually) - poor set up overall. Most of the lounge chairs are so close to the pool edge, no room to move around. I think it's this resort has the largest # of rooms with the smallest main pool, although the quiet pools are nice but not very exciting for kids. Hope this helps anyone interested.

Is it really this bad? We are staying there this May and it's the only hotel my DH wanted to stay at because of the pictures and the Caribbean feel. Is it better than the Value Resort at least? We can't afford to stay above Moderate at all and the Value resorts in the pictures looked way to childlike. And I was reading online reviews on travel sites that had Caribbean beach that was nice. Is it older than the other resorts or something? Don't they have like 7 pools or something like that?

If the pool is that bad, what other resorts can you go to and swim?

For every resort you will find those that love it and those that will never return. Yes it is better than a value and many many people have enjoyed their stay at CBR. I have stayed at quite a few WDW resorts and we always return to CBR.

Look at the reviews but keep an open mind and decide for yourself.

Yes there is a quiet pool at each one of the villages. The main pool is small and should be larger for a resort this size but having all the quiet pools gives you a choice.

We stayed at CBR on our first trip to WDW in 2002 and loved it! We were in the Jamaica section and had a short walk to the buses , which we were always the first section picked up, and a quick walk to the mainpool and food court. We never used the main pool though as we found a nice quiet pool that was pretty empty during our whole stay. We would definately return in the future. We are staying at POFQ in May because we want to try a new resort each time but we will definately return to CBR. Go and enjoy!

:cheer2: I agree Sea Spray, those frozen Pina Colada's are fabulous!

This is very simple...it you ask people who stayed in TS...90% of them will hate CBR. If you ask people who stayed anywhere other than TS...90% of them will love CBR.

We stayed in TN and we have a great time at CBR in a not so crowded May.

What does TS and TN?

Trinidad North, Trinidad South. Lots of people like Trinidad South because it is far away from the crowds. I say to each his own.

We have stayed at all the moderates, including CBR. We thought CBR was on an equal level to all of them as far as the basic amenties (room quality, service, food court, etc.). However, we did feel that the resort was far too spread out for our tastes. It is the only resort that has its own "inter-resort" bus service, but the reality is--who wants to wait for a bus to go get a coke or mail a postcard!

CBR was the first of the moderates, and Disney learned from their mistakes as far as layout goes. POR and CSR are as big, but much better laid out.

Personally, we would never stay at CBR again for this reason, but we are glad we experienced it once--these choices are so subjective that everyone needs to make their own decisions based on their own preferences!

We stayed there in July for our 1st Disney visit. We were in Jamaica 45 which was a short walk to the food court and the bus stop. We ate breakfast at the food court 5 of the 7 mornings we were there and didn't wait very long for anything. DS loved the Mickey waffles. We ate lunch and dinner in the parks, so I can't tell you anything about those meals and waiting time.

Personnally I hate all public pools, but we didn't go to Disney to go swimming. We can do that at home! My kids like the main pool just fine and there was never anyone at the Jamaica pool; my kids usually had the whole pool to themselves.

As far as bus transporation, it was great. We drove to FL from Maryland and we didn't move our vehicle for the whole week. We relied totally on Disney to get us where we wanted to go. We rarely waited long to get out of the resort. Jamaica was usually the first stop on the loop. Getting back from the parks was sometimes a pain depending on the time we left the park at night.

All in all, we loved our stay there, and we'll stay there again when we go back next year. Yes, it's a really big place and if you have little ones in strollers, it might be more difficult to get around.

I'm not saying it was unbearable. I think my main point was we will try somewhere different next time and if you are mildy interested in Carribbean Beach by all means go for it, it won't be hell, just don't expect to be left in complete awe. Next time we go I will let you know how it turns out. Like I said the only other resort we have ever stayed at was the Contemporary which looking back on it was pretty blah. After visiting the Grand Floridian for dinner I can say that's fairly blah too, but an upscale kind of blah. I think we might try Polynesian next time. Hopefully I emphasized the fact that we were there only for the parks and attractions and not the resorts. We probably spent 75% of our time not at the hotel, only went there to sleep but did a few things in between park visits. Wasn't extremely dissapointed or anything, just wasn't extremely impressed like I was hoping to be.

As an annual passholder for Disneyland I can say you guys are really lucky to be going to Disneyworld so often, it is a great different.

I agree, bombsheal was just expressing their opinion.

For those of you worried about the CBR though here is another opinion.

My 82 year old grandmother has 2 hip replacement surgeries, and before anyone can ask she was not in a wheelchair when she went, did not think the walk from Triniad South was bad at all. I'm not sure why people find it so unbearable and long, but seriously I find it rather fun. I'm really active though so perhaps thats why, or perhaps the people with issues with it have small children who hate the walk, that I could see, but for healthy adults the walk should not be a problem. If it is I would worry about their endurance, I'm not trying to sound controversial but it's just an opinion. It's what? Half a mile from their to the food court at most? Not very far at all. Sure its a mile round trip but thats truly not far either. That takes the average human being 20 minutes to walk total, and you'll be walking all day at Disney, whats an extra 10 minutes back from the food court if you choose to get dropped off there at night?

If your not a fan of tropical colors I'll admit, you'll find this resort a huge eyesore. I'm a huge fan of it's coloring, the entire place just screams FESTIVE to me. And the lack of steel drums, I've been to the Dominican Republic and Jamaica several times and have yet to find a steel drum being played there. If you set foot outside your resort in either of those countries you'll find a lot of things to be true to life at the resort.

The Beach is a beach. The lake is beautiful, but you can't swim in it. Is that a bad thing? Not really. The CBR has more quiet pools than any of the other resorts simply b/c it is the most spread out. This means that even in peak season when they have been booked up completely my family nad I have been able to find empty or nearly empty quiet pools to swim in, while the main one is jam packed.

You want the jacuzzi? Try getting it at night when it cools off. You shouldnt be in that hot of water during the hot Florida days anyway. ;)

The food court here is amazing! I'm of the variety that eats like a bird though (fair warning). I've never had a problem finding yummy food for lunch or dinner, but if your or the burger and fry variety your going to not like it as much. That stuff there is simply standard. Now Breakfast on the ohter hand? PHENOMENAL! This is my favorite place to go for breakfast at WDW besides Ohana's. Every time we stay, even when not at the CBR we go here at least twice for breakfast. They have nice selections that I find tasty. And the food court atmosphere to me personally is great!

Take some type of watercraft out while your here. ENjoy the scenery on your walks. Chase the little lizards that come out on the walkways at night. Go running along their path in the morning, its 1.4 miles if you run completely in a circle around the resort, and its a nice morning wake up.

Have fun everyone no matter where you stay!

I stayed at the CBR last May. This was my first Moderate resort. I really enjoyed the CBR! I stayed in the Jamaica buliding #44. I would stay there again in a heartbeart!!! :flower:
