I've been looking at this board for a few months now and have been to tons of stores and websites trying to decide what shirts to buy for my family. Keep in mind I was searching for matching (or at least coordinating shirts) for 7 people: 3 women, 2 men, 2 boys (3 & 4 years old). I thought I would share my findings with you...take it for what it's worth.
Men's: The Hanes shirts at Wal-Mart are great for the boys and men...100% cotton, good quality, large color selection and good price. $4 for men and $3.44 for the boys. I also tried some 90/10 Jerzees t-shirts from Michael's Crafts which I got on sale for $1.49 a while back...they took the transfer well, but they do not feel as soft and comfy as the Hanes.
Women's: I splurged because I wanted comfortable and feminine styles. I went for the $9.99 Style & Co. brand from Macy's. (Plus an additional 15% off.) The Hanes for women at Wal Mart (style name Perfect T), which were clearanced to $5 each, did not hold up well when washed...they shrunk quite a bit. Also found some good cotton tank tops (with wider straps) on sale for $4 at Kohl's that held up very well.
Boys: Children's Place now has all their solid t-shirts for $3.99...they are excellent quality, 100% cotton, and good color selection. Old Navy also has good quality 100% cotton t-shirts for boys and they are also on sale now for $2.99 each.
Personally, for comfort, I will only buy 100% cotton from now on. But, the Jerzees brand is a good deal for price and quality. You can usually find the Jerzees brand at the craft stores, and they are often on sale for around $2.50.
I looked online too, but I didn't think the prices were that much better. Plus, as I said, I was picky about the way the women's shirts would fit.
Good Luck and Happy DISigning!!
