So what are we to make of this film?

Part romantic comedy and part parody of Superman and Fatal Attraction, Girlfriend skewers both superhero films and romantic comedies. And it does so with surprising deftness; Girlfriend is not only the funniest film of summer; it may be the best superhero film since Spider-Man.

One of the freshest movie premises of the summer — and one of the best casting choices, Uma Thurman as a superhero using her powers to exact payback on the man who jilted her — are utterly wasted in “My Super Ex-Girlfriend.”

This comedy is so unfunny, it’s like director Ivan Reitman and company had their senses of humor tranquilized from guzzling kryptonite lattes.

Anytime I hear Uma Thurman's name I get this running in my head:

Uma....Oprah

Oprah...Uma

Well, since the arrival of our HDTV, that's pretty-much a given for just about every film. I think the next film we'll see in the theaters will be the next Harry Potter film.

I'm just amazed at the disparity in opinion here, between two rather reliable sources. We're not talking "Great!" versus "Bleh" -- we're talking "Great!" versus "Horrible!"

Or are we simply seeing another instance where someone without a strong opinion trying to make their opinion seem more important by taking perhaps a stronger stance than they really felt?

DH and I just came back from seeing this on a rainy Saturday afternoon - I wanted Lady in the Water, he wanted this - he won. It was okay .DH seemed to chuckle a lot - cute, short - nothing wonderful.

We went to see it last night. It wasn't fantastic but it wasn't badly done either. Had a lot of chuckle moments, a few laughs. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was one film that actually didn't give away the storyline in the trailers, unlike some movies *ahem*Superman*ahem*. All in all, it was cute, I was glad to see it the one time (& while I am not an Uma Thurman fan at all, she actually did a decent, believable job). Would I see it again? Probably not, but it was a good popcorn movie. popcorn::

Having said all that, it definitely earns its PG-13 rating, IMHO. There's a couple somewhat racy scenes that while funny, I wouldn't feel comfortable having my under-13 kids see. If you have younger (pre-teen & under) kids, you might want to see it yourself first to decide if they should see it.

I am a big Rainn Wilson fan so I saw this movie in support of him. I actually liked it. It was funny....well Rainn was the funniest person...and it was fun to watch. I'd suggest seeing it with friends. :thumbsup2

I saw this movie on Saturday. It was just okay. It had some "chuckle" moments but was not hilariously funny. Although, there was one woman in the theater who was laughing VERY hard through most of the movie--SHE thought it was very funny. You'll probably enjoy it on DVD in your home. Save your money.

I think the previews are very funny...but DH & I like some very stupid movies
Galaxy Quest for example. We loved it everyone else hated it. I want to see my Super Ex Girlfriend.

You won't regret it--it's not bad. Just not as funny as I think it could have been. Honestly, I think was took it down a notch for me was Luke Wilson. He's "just okay." I loved Uma Thurman in the movie. Also, I guess the nerdy guy that was Luke Wilson's friend (I assuming this is the "Rainn" guy mentioned above), well, he was very funny.

I totally agree. If it had been someone other then Luke I might have enjoyed it better. Still a good movie.

OT: Galaxy Quest is a GREAT movie! It's a classic! It also has Rainn Wilson in it! Hee! ;) :teeth:
