So we are leaving in 19 days to occupy a cabin in FW. I have a few stupid questions. Usually, we stay at one of the value resorts. We visit Disney once a year (my parents work there as seasonals, so we use their main gate passes to get in.)

1- I usually bring command hooks and a shower liner to create a little dressing room. Would this be useful in the cabins as well?

2- We have 6 people in the cabin. That's a lot of butts and one pooper. Is it reasonable to go to the group bathrooms? I was thinking of mass showering instead of each person taking their measly shower one at a time in the cabin.

3- Should I bring an air mattress? The hubby and I will be partaking in the living room bed thingy. Is it horrible?

4- We are thinking of not getting a golf cart. We are big park goers but we do want to enjoy in the campfire, fireworks on the beach, and of course, the pool. Will we be screwed without one?

5- Is the splash/ water area a place where my 8 and 11 year old would feel comfortable? Is it for very little kids?

6- Anything that I should bring that I would kick myself for not thinking of? Extra pillows? A bear cub? Etc.?

7- Should I decorate the outside of the cabin at all? Is that allowed? I usually put a few (non damaging) things in our hotel window. Do people do this to the cabins as well?

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Screwed? No. You may wish you had one after a couple of days though.

5- Is the splash/ water area a place where my 8 and 11 year old would feel comfortable? Is it for very little kids?

The splash zone is more catered towards smaller children. My 5 year old likes it, but my 7 year old gets bored with it rather quickly. But the slide in the pool is fun for him and probably will be for your kids.

I've never stayed in a cabin so I can't answer your other questions.

1- I usually bring command hooks and a shower liner to create a little dressing room. Would this be useful in the cabins as well? I don't know where you would put this. The cabins are pretty tight on open space and I can't see this working in the kitchen/living room area. Unless you wanted to try it outside? :)

2- We have 6 people in the cabin. That's a lot of butts and one pooper. Is it reasonable to go to the group bathrooms? I was thinking of mass showering instead of each person taking their measly shower one at a time in the cabin. Most of the cabin loops are not close to comfort stations with showers. It would be a hike. You can check the map and try to request a cabin closer to the camping loops - but that doesn't always work.

3- Should I bring an air mattress? The hubby and I will be partaking in the living room bed thingy. Is it horrible? It is not great. But it's better than a sofa fold out. My husband and I sleep on it and don't have huge issues. I would say it's more comfortable than your average air mattress.

4- We are thinking of not getting a golf cart. We are big park goers but we do want to enjoy in the campfire, fireworks on the beach, and of course, the pool. Will we be screwed without one? We have never rented a cart. They are not necessary. Nice ammenity, but not essential.

5- Is the splash/ water area a place where my 8 and 11 year old would feel comfortable? Is it for very little kids? It's too big for my 4yo to feel comfortable, but my 6yo likes it. I think they'll enjoy it. The pool slide is nice too.

6- Anything that I should bring that I would kick myself for not thinking of? Extra pillows? A bear cub? Etc.? Small cups for the bathroom. plastic cups for your kids (the cups for the cabin are rustic glass jelly jars). If you are driving I would bring beach towels for the pool (the cabin towels are tiny and there are none at the pool). Coffee filters. Scotch.

7- Should I decorate the outside of the cabin at all? Is that allowed? I usually put a few (non damaging) things in our hotel window. Do people do this to the cabins as well? Oh, yes, people do all kinds of things to decorate. Definitely. We bring strings of lights, little flags, windsocks, etc.

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Enjoy the Fort!:cheer2:

We stayed in a cabin back in Dec 09 and it was great. There were 6 of us.

We did have a golf cart and it will definitely be easier to get to the beach for fireworks, TCD Barn and Trail's End and all there is to do in the Settlement, or for the campfire/outdoor movie. There is NO parking for cars at all anywhere except your driveway at the cabin. Correction Meadows Trading Post has 15 minute parking. The buses will get you where you need to go, but will take a bit of time.

You can always rent a cart for a short time from Disney or Tee Time (Kenny). There is a golf cart thread with all the info.

My parents stayed on the murphy bed in the living room and were ok with it.

The comfort stations do not have parking, but depending on which cabin loop you are in - you may be able to walk to one close by.

The splash / pool area in the Meadows is great! The splash area is more for the young ones but unless the big kids are unruly there isn't a problem. Your 11 yr old will be having fun on the slide!

Have a great time! If I think of anything else I'll write later.

Not sure. Always stayed in a campsite.

We're usually big park goers, as well. Rented a golf cart once for a few hours (maybe a day) back in '97 because my brother wanted one. I think it's nice to have if you're going to be at the campground for a bit, but for your plans, I'd say you could easily get away with skipping it. Nice to have. Just not necessary IMO.

5- Is the splash/ water area a place where my 8 and 11 year old would feel comfortable? Is it for very little kids?

Haven't been since the pool refurb, but I've seen pics of kids that age enjoying themselves.

6- Anything that I should bring that I would kick myself for not thinking of? Extra pillows? A bear cub? Etc.?

There's a list somewhere about what is and is not in the cabins. Not sure now where I saw it. Maybe someone else will know.

7- Should I decorate the outside of the cabin at all? Is that allowed? I usually put a few (non damaging) things in our hotel window. Do people do this to the cabins as well?

Not completely sure. Always stayed in a campsite, but I believe I have seen pics of a few yard ornaments in front of some cabins.

Thank you in advance for your answers!

My comments are in red. Hope you enjoy your stay! :goodvibes

I too am a camper, so cant help much on cabin info. If a golf cart is in your budget, I say go for it! You can see so much more of the CG with one, and it's a great time just looking at everyone else's set-ups. And there are no such things as stupid questions here....though you may get stupid answers!!:lmao:

Ill be heading down to a cabin in a couple of days. When I get there Ill post some pics that will hopefully answer your questions.

The Murphy beds in the cabins are actually quite comfortable. You will not need an air mattress. You will also have two areas (with doors) for dressing; the bedroom and the bathroom. You can definately use the comfort stations as well. Make sure to request a cabin close to a comfort station at check-in. You will not "need" a golf cart (but it is loads of fun to rent one for a day if you will be having a Fort day). Also the Splash Zone is mostly for tots and small children but your kids might be amused for a short time. They'll love the pool though; especially in the summer heat. Have a great time.

So who is Murphy,,and would he get upset if he finds you sleeping in his bed ?

Thank you for your in depth answers! I will leave the curtain and command hooks home. The pool slide will probably be the most exciting thing for the kids. At least it is the thing I am most excited about. I love being flung around in water. It will be hot, but the nice thing is, we go this time every year so we don't know any better.

So who is Murphy,,and would he get upset if he finds you sleeping in his bed ?

Murphy is a guy mostly made of iron bars and my lower back is afraid of him. :scared1:

It looks like you have answers to most of your questions. But, I wanted to give you my $.02 on these two.

2- We have 6 people in the cabin. That's a lot of butts and one pooper. Is it reasonable to go to the group bathrooms? I was thinking of mass showering instead of each person taking their measly shower one at a time in the cabin.

6- Anything that I should bring that I would kick myself for not thinking of? Extra pillows? A bear cub? Etc.?

2. I don't know what you have heard about the comfort stations, but as far as I'm concerned it is still only one person per shower at a time. This group shower thing you are contemplating is not appropriate for a family campground like the Fort.

6. If you already have a bear cub, then by all means, bring him! I'm sure he would love the Fort. If you don't already have one, I don't think it is necessary to bring one. Although, I'm sure others will disagree with this. That's just my opinion, though.

Have fun.

  1. as other have said you have two rooms and you can also send the dressed ones out on to the porch.
  2. you certainly can go to the comfort stations but they may not be close
  3. the Murphy bed has no bars to get you in the back. As for the air mattress you may have some room in the kitchen for it.
  4. you don't NEED a golf cart, but you may want one but the ones at the fort only hold 4 and yes they discourage driving around. It really bugged my father 24 years ago.
  5. haven't been to the new pool yet
  6. bring flashlights, you are still in a campground and the walk back to the cabin can be dark
  7. you obviously haven't seen FW at Christmas. http://www.ownerslocker.com/blog/2009/12/christmas_at_disneys_fort_wild.html

1- I doubt you will need your command hooks -you should be fine with the couple rooms -

2-The cabins are not always close to the comfort stations -request this right away ,and again at check in-

3-I stay at the campground frequently , usually at a campsite but i did stay in a cabin once -the Murphy bed was fine -

4-The golf carts from Disney are spendy but IMO think it would improve your enjoyment of the campground quite a bit -it is a huge place and just walking isn't usually an option but you could do buses. If you are interested in one I would look into having one delivered from one of the outside companies -I have heard you save allot of money this way -

5- the splash area is mostly for smaller kids ,but the pool area has allot of activities and other kids-my boys have always gone and enjoyed their selves

6-Mom bring yourself an extra mirror ,that way if the bathroom or bedroom area's are being used you can do your hair or makeup in another room
7- decorations are huge at the Fort -

Hope this helps -Enjoy Fort Wilderness-

Don't know if this helps, as I have never been to the cabins, but we bring command hooks when we go on cruises. I also bring little drawstring bags. I put the command hooks on the walls and hang the bags onto them. In one bag might go socks, another might go underoos. It's a good way to use vertical space. HTH! :)

Ask for loop 2100. It backs up to loop 1100, which is a camping loop and has a very convenient comfort station. On our last trip when we had 2 families sharing the cabin, having that comfort station handy was so nice. My BIL showered there every morning, which really helped alleviate the crowded feeling we would have had otherwise. Also, like laura-k suggested, you can bring a makeup mirror - my SIL put on her makeup every morning at the kitchen table.

About the air mattress, I don't think it's necessary. Plus, it probably wouldn't fit anyway. The Murphy bed is much more comfortable than most pull-outs I've ever been on.

Have a great time! The cabins are super and the Fort is even better!

MY family of six (kids ages 17, 16, 8, and 7) do not have an issue with the bathroom. We don't feel crowded or rushed, but I do see how being near a comfort station would come in handy. My teenagers have never complained about the murphy bed either.
